Customer Reviews

a fantastic expansion to a fun gameI bought this expansion about a month ago and have played it three times, once with two players and twice with four players. Everyone agrees that this is an excellent expansion. My biggest complaint with the original Quarriors was that the randomness of combat was too big an element of the game. No matter how good your strategy, a lucky roll by an opponent could wipe you out. However, the new Quest mechanic really helps balance things out. It works like this: normally, when a creature enters the ready area, it attacks all other creatures in play automatically. However, with Quests, creatures can be sent on missions for Glory and bonuses instead. These Quests, if completed, given you advantages during the game. And creatures assigned to Quests can't be indirectly attacked like before. A player can either attack the board or challenge the Questing creatures, not both. So it really helps balance out how many creatures can stay alive. In addition to the new mechanic, there are also some cool new creatures. I'm partial to the Minotaur, who challenges the Dragons in size and gets cool abilities like immunity and it can only be attacked by two or more creatures. There are also a bunch of other fun creatures like the War Pegasus, which gives extra Glory for completed Quests, and the Squire, which allows players to make an extra purchase and becomes more powerful on Quests. In fairness, the only expansion that I own to Quarriors prior to this purchase was Rise of the Demons, which I hated. So I can't compare this expansion to others in terms of quality or value. What I can say is that this expansion adds a ton of value to the original game and I highly recommend it. 5Good expansion if played frequently; one of the best expansions so farThis is one of my favorite games and most of the expansions are awesome! This expansion adds a few new elements to the game, almost reinventing the strategy. I love most of the new characters and those creatures also change my strategy a lot.I gave this 4 instead of a 5 because:-Packaging: As always very nice neat way to package everything. Overall I like the packaging but if it is tilted too much every becomes scrambled again. Not the biggest upset.-Quests: They are cool and fun, but only if you play with 4 people who aren't new to the game.-Characters: Overall all these characters are great additions, but the more I play the more I see myself wanting to remove certain ones from the game as it seems no one every chooses them.Anyone who loves table top games I would recommend getting the basic, original set.Anyone who likes Quarriors, this is a great addition. A must have for me. 4Great addition to an interesting game.If you already have quarriors, Quartifacts adds some alot of replyability with the addition of new monstors and spells. The new questing option also adds an interesting strategic element and is left optional so you can continue to play using the basic rules. 5Quartifacts: adds a new mechanic: questing.I love Quarriors. It is a fun game that goes quick and is enjoyed by all who play it. Quartifacts adds a new mechanic to the game: questing. This mechanic adds a new element to the game, so it isn't just fighting monsters. You can gain glory another way. 5Great expansionExcellent expansion for Quarriors. Adds new "Quest" mechanism which provides another way to score points and for players to interact. Also comes in a huge box with plenty of room for storage of this and the base game. 5Decent expansionThe questing is interesting, but not game changing that much. The tray you get to put all your dice in is especially nice. 4Best expansion of the fourGet this expansion first. It inserts more REAL decision-making in the game and expands the scoring track for a longer game (which has always been a shortcoming of the game--no time for your strategy to unfold.)Only wish that the big quartifact dice were the same size as the regular dice---they are not as easy to store in the big box expansion trays. Spotty dice quality still is an issue.Yet, overall, this expansion is worth the money. It turns a fun game into a more strategic, even "funner" game!!! (Great for family with pre-teen kids.) 5Best Expansion? Compare...If you are deciding what expansion to get for Quarriors then there are two main expansions you should be looking at: Quamageddon, and Quartifacts (this one). It basically comes down to what you want from your expansion:Quamageddon provides many new creatures to add to your deck that are great. If that is all you are looking for, then go with that one. It also adds some "new rules" that make the game more fun but honestly, they are only new rules. There is nothing in this game that you need in order to use these new rules you can simply find them on BoardGameGeek.com and add them into your other Quarriors games. So basically the Quamageddon expansion is ONLY more creatures for more variety.Quatifcats (THIS GAME) provides a few new creatures but it ALSO provides some game changing new mechanics. Some of the other games also do this (Like the locking mechanism in Quest of the Qladdiator) but the new mechanic in this game is far superior. A new way to score points involving cards and bonus dice .it also provides more direct player interaction. There are some new creatures in this game as well, but many of them excel (and indeed are created for) these new scoring cards. Which is fine, since once you play with the new mechanics from this game, you likely won't ever play without them.in the end the two best expansions are Quamageddon (if you are only looking for more creatures) and Quartifacts (if you want some new creatures AND add a fun new mechanic to the game). Now it's your decision. :) 5Completed my collectionI've got all the expansions now! Got it very quickly and it's a great game. I'll check this site when new expansions come out. 5A new way to rollChances are, being here means that Quarriers has also been considered already as this is only an expansion and requires the core game to play with. The reviewer in question while making to form a level review, has enjoyed this take on the normally deck building type of game so expect some degree of favored bias. The process of a regular quarrier game is rather straight forward. Dice are rolled and cycled out of the dice bag and the used area. In the process, an attempt to gain effective creatures and spells is made for the purpose of being able to deploy those creatures for Glory points in which when a certain amount is achieved, victory is had. This formula chances with Quartifacts and the introduction of quests. The concept is instead of sending monsters into battle, they instead can be deployed to a seperate area and if successful will gain Glory and possibly an added bonus. None of the monsters score their own values as per normal but the quest value could be greater than the sum of the monsters. Also when it comes to challenging quests, the monsters must be selectively challenged and the battle happens spontaneously in which both parties' attack and defense are compared as opposed to regular attacks in which one party's attack is compared to all other parties' defense. The attackers can receive Glory for managing to defeat any number of quest goers and if the party is wiped out, they could even take over the quest. The catch is, unless they can satisfy the quest level requirements, they won't be able to score for it.If Quarriers was a good game, then this may well improve the experience with a new way to seek Glory. 5
