Customer Reviews

A Great Family Card GameThis is an old family card game having a comeback. We taught our kids, and now they're teaching theirs. It's a "road trip" with cards, and the goal is to beat opponents to a finish line of the most "road miles". However, there are "road hazzard cards" drawn from the deck by opponents to stop others from achieving their goal. A player cannot proceed until a "hazzard" is fixed. "Remedy cards" are drawn from the deck in turn. The directions are easy to follow from ages 7-8 and up, but not the least bit boring for teens and adults. The game can be played with two players or more, or with two sets of partners. Two decks can support more partner groups. The game provides hours of laugh-out-loud fun. 5Great fun from a game you've never heard of!Before 2010, I had never heard of this card game. One holiday I was at my in-laws and they pulled out this game, only the 1960ish version of it. The premise behind it is you are trying to race 1000 miles while trying to avoid such obstacles as flat tires, speed limits, and running out of gas. Though it does take a tiny bit of time to learn the rules, layout, cards and when to throw a "coup fourr ", it is time well spent. It is a game that deserves to be in every home that needs something to do on a rainy or snowy day. It is fantastic and wholesome fun! 5Childhood MemoryI am 60 years old and my friends played this hours on end as kids. I got it for my granddaughter because she's now at the same age I was when I played it. It hasn't changed a bit and you'd think how to play it would come back easily but it didn't. 5Cards just like the original; card dispenser a bit cheapIf you loved Mille Bornes when you were younger, you will take a trip down memory lane looking at the cards which have all the original artwork - the dreaded red "flat tire" card, the happy "roll"m card, and the impressive safety cards, to say the least. If you are unfamiliar with the game, it is fun and easy to play - the object being to be the first player to travel 1000 miles. Along the way, other players will try to stop you with speed limit signs, flat tires, out of gas cards, accident cards, etc.My only complaint is that the red plastic card holder (for new cards and to put discarded cards) is really cheap plastic - like the kind of plastic that you find in packaging for kids toys, not the type of plastic that is hard and would standup to heavy duty use.Other than that, we have loved playing the game. 5Wonderful gameI love this game. My father taught me how to play it a few years ago and I am so glad to have one to teach my own family. I bought this from a third party in "like new" condition and I was so pleased with what I received. They are the cards with both English and French, the cards are of great quality, and the box was in perfect condition. This is a wonderful and recommended game for families! 5Classic card game deliversFor those whom have played MIlle Bornes before, you're in for a great nostalgia trip with the vintage design cards; the sturdy plastic draw card holder and over all packaging don't disappoint either. For those whom haven't played the game before, there can be a bit of a learning curve with the directions, (which could stand to be written a bit more clearly) but well worth it. Insofar as there is arithmetic involved it's somewhat educational (also introduces some french vocab, as the cards are printed in the original french- though not to worry, the iconography and directions make the meanings of the cards clear enough).Note that It's a competitive card game (played either in teams or individually) and strategy requires sticking your opponent(s) with bad cards, so players should be of an age where they can be good sports about not just winning and losing, but also about doing so at the hands of their opponent(s). 5Fun, fast-pacedThis fast-paced card game was a hit ever since it was introduced in France in the 1950s and in the USA not much later. It's a fun, car-friendly game (that even has an automotive theme, a road race) and doesn't need a great deal of space. Kids like it: although learning the various cards takes a while, they delight in the "coup fourr " (literally "underhanded trick," metaphorically "stab-in-the-back") by which they can sabotage an opponent's journey merely by wielding the right card at the right time. I'd happily have given this game five stars if not for the ridiculous quoted price well in excess of fifty dollars. Look towards the bottom of the product page to see lots of copyrighted "Mille Bornes" cards at reasonable prices. 4Quality is disappointing, but the game is as good as everAll the comments about poor production are true. The cards are of generic quality, and the "car shaped" tray is a flimsy joke--nothing like the tray (I think) I remember from the original. No, you don't actually need a tray to play the game, but high quality accessories add to the enjoyment. They don't include a score pad, except a few bound into the instruction book, but you can keep score on any piece of paper, that's no big deal. So you're basically paying for a deck of cards and a rule book. Value? Not really, but I'm so glad to have the game again with the traditional graphics that I'll overlook the deficiencies. But look, Winning Moves Games, why not make a "Collector's Edition" reissue something to be proud of?[Addendum June 22, 2014] My jaw dropped when I saw that some company is now trying to sell this deck of cards for $63.99. I paid $13.80 for it and thought it was overpriced. It is a fun card game, but if you have $64 to spend on a deck of cards, my friend, you are something "special." 4Excellent game!I used to play this game when my children were very small (late 70's) and enjoyed it very much. I hadn't seen it for years, so when I found it again I just had to buy it! Now I've got another generation addicted! LOLThe game itself is pretty simple. It's like driving on a road trip. You have to play a Green Light card to go, then you play mile cards: 200 miles, 100 miles, 75 miles, 50 miles or 25 miles. The goal is to be the first player to reach 1000 miles and you try to slow down your opponents by playing cards against them - like you can give them an Accident card and they are stopped until they draw a Repair card to fix it, or you hit them with an Out Of Gas card and they have to get an Extra Tank card before they can go again, etc. There are also 4 Safety cards and each one protects you from a certain Hazard. For example, no one can hit you with a Flat Tire if you have the Puncture Proof Safety card. All in all, it's a lot of fun competition. This is a great game and I'm very happy to see it available once again! 5Cheap edition of a GREAT gameI was so excited to remember this game and finally purchase it for myself! I grew up on this and have now graduated from college. I remember so many good times playing this with my mother and sister! Once my younger siblings were born, it was a pleasure again to share the fun. It's an easy game to learn, and we started teaching them when they were 7. I was happy to found this edition since the cards are the same ones in my mother's deck.I just received this item today and I'm disappointed, however. The car-shaped tray is one of the cheapest things I've ever seen! I guess it's just that the don't make things as well as they used to... :( 4
