    Description

    • 4-PLAYER SHUT THE BOX: This high quality game is everything you need for an exciting game of dice for 2-4 players. Crafted from medium stained solid wood & measuring 13.5 x 13.5 x 2 in., this version features 10 wooden number tiles, which bring more numerical combinations into play than the typical nine number versions. The playing surface is lined with brown billiard felt for scratch free dice rolls. Four sets of dice are included so each player gets their own dice (red, green, blue, black).
    • LEARNING TOOL: While this is a great game for families and friends of all ages, it is an excellent tool for teaching basic addition. The player rolls the dice, adds up the values, and then lays down the tiles that have the sum. These simple rules keep the player engaged in computing addition facts while enjoying game with friends.     Fun for all ages (as long as you can count)My sister bought this game back from her trip to Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, and we are hooked! It's fun, it's easy, requires just a tiny bit of strategy and a lot of luck. I bought one for my house, one for my mom's house, and gave one as a birthday present. The game itself is well made and sturdy. You can play it by yourself or with others. When there are enough people, we play in teams. Shut the Box is a winner. 5An Awesome GameThis is a really fun, and educational, game. I purchased this for myself, and my nephew (21) and I have played often. I actually purchased this for him as well as other relatives. It's equal parts luck and strategy, and a great math tool for younger children. There is also a travel size version that is well made and fun to play. Cannot recommend this game enough. Makes a handsome gift because it's so well made. 5A fun game for kids and adults where age does not give you an advantageMy boyfriend is a carpenter and someone asked him to make one of these boxes and that is when we first learned of this game. The one we made was just for 1 person at a time. The game sounded interesting and I thought we might build one for ourselves someday, well, you know how it is with mechanic husbands, painter husbands, ect. Same with carpenters. You might get tired of waiting.But I was looking for a Christmas gift for my 2 nephews ages 8 and 12. That's a pretty big gap but I wanted something they could both enjoy, so I remembered this game so I went to Amazon and was thrilled when I saw this game box that was made for 4 players.I ended up getting one set for my nephews (who live in another state) and a set for my son, his wife, and my grandson. My brother called me to tell me how much his boys loved the game and how the younger one was so excited that he was able to shut the box 4 times the first time they played.And my son and his wife has played theirs many times with Ben, my grandson, who is 5 and learning to count, and other friends.The box is well made It is true that the numbers are not professional. I remember one of my son's having an issue that my carpenter boyfriend noticed but it was so insignificant that I can't remember what it was and it didn't effect game play at all.What I like best is that the kids that play have just as much a chance to win as adults. 5Poor attention to detail/QCNeeds better quality control. This was purchased to give as a Christmas gift, so we didn t see the quality until it was opened yesterday. Upon first glance it s well made and I wanted the four person version instead of a single player game, so this seemed perfect. However, upon closer inspection when we took it out of the box to play, the numbered tiles have lots of paint spillage and the felt inside the box is off to one side instead of centered (the lining goes up the side of one aide of the box while leaving a visible strip of uncovered wooden bottom showing on the other side).It doesn t impact the usability, I m just very disappointed in the quality. 2Our kids love this game!Bought as a Christmas present after trying the two player version at a friend s house. Our kids ages 4, 7, and 9 love it as well as all the adults they played with. I really liked that this version allows four players to expand the fun. Great way to help kids with counting and addition in a fun way. 5Perfect family gameBought this shut the box game months ago after a trip to Boston we discovered it at the Boston tea party ships and museum, they didn t sell a big version there but they did have one in their tea room to play and we loved it so bought one of our own here on amazon. Seems to be great quality, we love the color finish on it and the different color dice are nice. We added a twist to our game with subtraction to challenge our math loving 7 year old. He s super quick at math and this is perfect for the whole family. We keep it out in the living room on display which also gets used quite often. Our 7yr old son will come home from school and play to unwind from the long day. Only thing is, the directions that came with it are kind of vague, there is more than one way to play and the directions at the museum for it were a bit different than the ones that came with this one so google different variations, there is more than one way to play plus invent your own ways like we did. 5Great game, well madeI played this game at a friend's house and was intrigued by how simple it was and fun for learning. We have a 5 year old and a 2.5 year old - they both really like the game. I have found this helps my kindergartener with her math skills. My wife and I enjoy playing quick games at night, and she was impressed with the quality. The littlest one needs a little help knowing which numbers to push down, but she loves the colored dice. Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase. 5Great Look, Easy and FunThis game is so much fun! I played this for the first time a few months ago in Boston while we where on vacation and loved it so much I ordered it when I got home. Its super simple to play even my 7 year old nephew loves it (and its great tool for teaching addition!). The quality is great, I love the wood and it looks really great on my coffee table. People ask whenever they come over what it is! My family now tells me to bring it over if we are getting together or on vacation. I would highly recommend this product! 5Quality control needs improvementProduct looked ok at first glance until I noticed a number 3 obviously hand-written in black marker. Product is brand new so I can only conclude that there is a lapse in quality control during manufacturing. It's little things like this that makes or breaks a customer's impression of a brand. 2Kids don't realize they are learning math skillsWe played this game at Historic Hat Creek Ranch in Cache Creek, BC, Canada. I believe they actually had the exact same one. We just had to find this game to play at home, with friends and take to school on board game days. The quality is top notch and the stain looks amazing, as though it was an antique. It comes in a sturdy box and instructions, as well as the history of the game. My kids 13 and 11 have been playing this almost daily for two weeks. I am teaching my 4 year old numbers and she loves the game. You can play single player or up to four players. I didn't want the single player version. In the single player game, the person playing finishes their game, counts up their score and then the next player plays the game. Not as interactive, as the multi-player and also not as competitive. My 13 year old loves to see more numbers down on her side, than mine. You take turns rolling the dice and flipping the number tiles down. It seems like such a simple game, but it can also be strategic. It's coming on all of our truck camping trips and staying out on my coffee table for when the kids want to play or company comes over. 5
