The base doesn't hold the chalk very well. It has a foam ring that's supposed to keep the chalk in place as you write. You have to push on the chalk pretty hard in order for the chalk to show up on your cement. But if you push hard then you chalk gets pushed up into the tube. You can double stack chalk to help hold it in place. Also - if you push too hard, the stick comes apart. Because it' a plastic tube that just slides together in 3 places. It would be better as one piece or threaded ends. Its not worth whatever I paid for it. I would not recommend this version to anyone. 1
