Customer Reviews

Great gift ideaMy husband loved getting this kit for Christmas. Put it together right away (took about an hour or so with drying time). Has been an entertaining conversation starter. 5Simple Ultra Clean Assembly I love assembling these laser cut all wood models. Use white wood glue. As for the plans go to the website and save the pdf. You can just use your phone. I printed the pages out. I have bought five of these their so much fun. It won t matter if you get the glue all over the wood because you just sand it clean. 5This is a cool kit that makes a neat little GadgetThis is a cool kit that makes a neat littleGadget. It took my 15 year old son about an hour or so to make it. You will also need glue, rubber bands, a soldering iron and sodder. The directions are on the web. We couldn't find them at first. The directions are quite detailed but I would have preferred printed directions too. There was an issue with assembly though. The mechanism was taller than the little box so the top doesn't sit flush. He will have to shave down and alter some parts to make it fit. I'm not sure weRe the mistake happened because everything lined up nicely otherwise. It is a fun little gadget and even better because he built it himself. 4Fun gag gift but requires a bit of tinkeringI built this kit as a gift for my boss, who is a total geek and loves gadgets and widgets of all kinds. I was able to build it by myself, with the occasional help from a friend lending a finger when holding one area and working on another proved too difficult. Please make sure you read the seller's info on the product very carefully... you will need a soldering gun and lead solder. I didn't notice that in the product info; I just saw the part where the seller says the kit contains all the parts you need........ not so much. Thankfully, a friend had a soldering gun and I was able to complete the assembly w/o too much difficulty. I even got the circuit to work on the first try, yay! The other challenge about this was that the alignment of the arm that turns the switch to off (the basis of the gag) was not aligned quite right so the lid would not close after the arm retreated. I had to monkey around with the alignment of the arm so that it retreated enough to let the lid close while making sure it did not rotate too far back to deactivate the circuit (hard to explain w/o pictures but suffice it to say that this kit may require some tweaks beyond the basic assembly). All in all, it came together and worked well and my boss really enjoyed it so it was a success... I just wish I didn't have to spend quite so much time tinkering with it. 3My son and I had a great time building this project and he loves showing it ...My son and I had a great time building this project and he loves showing it to friends. I'm handy with a soldering iron but if you're not, a few youtube videos will teach you want you need to know. The instructions were a bit of a hassle being on instructables but going to the all-on-one-page view make it work for me. 5Special skills required. Kit will not work as suppliedEventually worked, but had to install a spacer between motor shaft and wooden arm. I had to file a tiny nut and fit it between the two.The supplied motor shaft is too short and without a spacer, the arm is too low. The arm hits the wooden base. If you tighten the screw the arm gets completely stuck. This mismatch of part sizes is as of Oct 12, 2017Electrical instructions on the web site are confusing, Eventually drew a diagram from the photos.Used Gorilla wood glue for the box and instant super glue for the arm & motor assembly. 2Fun kit, fun toy!Great kit! Truly comes with everything you need except solder, glue, and tools. It took me about 2.5 hours to build this, including letting the glue dry at each stage. The fit and finish is pretty good - I only had to do about 1 minute of light sanding to get the lid to close smoothly and completely each time. The only issue I had was with the motor - it was jammed too far into the gear box causing the system to bind up and not run at all, or occasionally run but so slow there was not enough force to flip the switch. I only discovered this after making sure all my wiring was correct. The fix was easy once I figured out the problem - I took the strap off that held the motor into the gear box, pulled out the motor, and added some duct tape shims to slightly shim the motor away from the gear box, reassembled, and presto, it works great now! This one is a gift, but now I want my own! 4Other boxes are posers, this is the real deal...!I love these kits! Lots of fun to put together and give to others! I've built a couple now....It's a quality kit.... I've built a few. On one kit I accidentally glued the micro-switch closed. No biggie. I went to the local electronics store and bought a replacement switch. So don't worry if you've never soldered or glued before. It's a good experience. (I glued the switch closed because I got fancy and didn't follow instruction. Follow instructions and you'll be fine.)Plus, it's a solid box with proper comedic timing.Other boxes are lightly built and advertise "USELESS BOX!!" The whole point of the box is for the user to be surprised that it's a useless box. Why telegraph the punchline? 5Sending it back!Went online to print instructions and it said I had to download a PDF conversion program, which I wasn't happy about, but did it anyway. After spending an hour trying to convert and print the instruction, I gave up. How hard could it be to send the instructions with the kit? Will most likely return the kit, it's not worth the hassle. 1Best Gag Gift Ever! Easy to follow instructions, don't let it scare you off!I needed a gag gift and thought this would be great. Worked like a champ. People were amazed when I told them that it came as a kit and that I had to put it all together. I really like that it doesn't say, "Useless Box" on the front like so many others. Just having the "On/Off" switch makes it seem all the more ominous. People were almost scared of it until they tried it. Then they were like, "wait... what just happened." Then they would hit the switch again and realize that it was turning itself off and just start laughing. Some people got it, others were unimpressed. You could definitely tell who had the OCD issues and who had no sense of humor!I ended up getting it back, and it now sits on my desk. I still can't resist the urge now and then to hit to switch. It still makes me chuckle. This was awesome! I had never soldered anything prior to this, so it was a bit of an adventure. Super easy to use and the pdf they provide with directions is perfect. Big pictures that show exactly what to do. 5
