Customer Reviews

it is nice having the cards already printed and ready to dealWhilst a basic game of Werewolf can be played just with a pen and some paper, it is nice having the cards already printed and ready to deal. Plus, this has extra roles that not everyone may know about, which adds a lot to the playability. Additionally, each card has a point value, positive for the villagers team, negative for the werewolf team. That makes it easy to build a balanced roster (total points close to zero) when you have 20-30 people playing. 5Fun for kids and adultsA group of middle school kids played all day during "field day." They had a blast, and would probably have kept playing if they didn't have to go home at the bell. My high school aged daughter promptly claimed the game as soon as I brought it home. 5Makes the narrator's job easyI've been playing Werewolf for years, DIY-style, but I love this version. The illustrations are cool, as well as their added characters. But my favorite part is how they make it easy to determine how many werewolves vs villagers and characters there should be for any size group. 5Great party game!My first exposure to this game was at a group game night event. After the night was over I immediately went home to purchase a copy for myself as this game is ingeniously simple to pick up and ridiculously addictive. The premise of the game involves players randomly selecting character cards with one person as narrator/moderator. Within those characters cards are the werewolves and the rest are villagers. As the werewolves, your main goal to eliminate everyone of the villagers without getting caught, and as villagers to eliminate the werewolves. The game is played out through rounds and each round consists of a night (werewolves chose to eliminate a villager) and day (villagers accuse someone for lynching). Then there are variable characters, such as the seer, cupid, little girl etc., who can either aid the villagers or the werewolves. The fun part of the game starts when its the day round as everyone has to deliberate on who to lynch. Since nobody knows whose who within the game, it becomes a hodge podge of guess, accusations, and random silliness. Once someone is accused, they will have 30 sec to defend themselves before the voting begins for elimination. And once eliminated, you can no longer participate in the game. The game is great when played with 12+ players. It's especially fun when players play aggressively and turn on their poker face. Because nobody knows who anyone else is, players can pretend to be characters they're not throwing the entire game askew. It's incredibly fun because everyone has to play strategically while not giving away their characters roles. Too much of a giveaway and the werewolves will eliminate you and too less, then the villagers can turn on you. Everyone has to remember the main priority of the werewolves is to kill of players who are a disadvantage to them, thus its important to keep their identity secret. As the werewolf you have to be diplomatic and try not to always vote players off or suspicion will be cast on you while still pretending to be a villager. The game can last between a couple of min to even hours depending on the discussions. There are two version of werewolves, Ultimate and Ultimate Deluxe. This Ultimate version contains 30 cards total with the following:Quick instruction guideFurther description of character rolesVillager cards x12Werewolf cards x8,Villager Idiot, Body Guard, Mason x2, Hunter, Spellcaster, Seer, Witch, Wolf Cub, and Sorceress cards. 4A great game for larger groupsThe first time we played this game, and we've played it a lot, my wife had to sleep on the couch afterwards. When it was time for the werewolves to open their eyes, I opened my mine and saw that she had hers open. Then she proceeded to giggle...a lot. Way to be sneaky, honey. But the game is tons of fun. 5Fun for GroupsWe love playing this game at family gatherings. It's great for people of all ages. We usually play with a group of 12 with players ages 6-65. But beware the theme involves the fictional townspeople lynching the whomever they believe to be the werewolf, and the werewolf killing victims at night, so if you're uncomfortable with this idea, this is not the game for you. 5One of my favorite games, but a limited card variety in this editionFirst of all, I'm going to say that Ultimate Werewolf is one of my favorite games of all time. 5 stars all the way. So if you've never played before and you're wondering whether you should give it a try or not, I highly recommend it. I played it with a group of friends on Halloween, and they loved it so much that we stayed up over an hour later than we had intended because we just didn't want to stop. We had some great conversations, a few people fell over laughing, and overall it's just a really fun game, whether you want to get to know a new group of people or you're playing with close friends. That being said, this particular version the Revised Edition, as opposed to the Deluxe Edition has a limited selection of cards, and I wish I had gotten the Deluxe version. At first, when comparing the two, I thought "Up to 80 players? When will I ever play this game with 80 people?" So that, combined with the fact that this box is just prettier overall, convinced me to go with the slightly cheaper, smaller Revised Edition. As soon as it arrived though, I realized what should have been obvious from the beginning: It's not about how many people you can play with. The Deluxe Edition has more CARDS you can play with. While the Revised Edition has a nice selection for beginners, it would be nice to have the wider variety that the Deluxe Edition offers. For only a few dollars extra, I think the Deluxe Edition is worth it. That being said though, this is still an excellent game. I just wish I had gotten the Deluxe Edition. My only other complaint is that the Villager card is rather unfortunate-looking. Maybe that's a silly thing to care about, but for such a pretty game overall, I wish the most abundant card looked a little nicer. Since purchasing this game, I've looked into several other versions, and I've found that "Ted Alspach's Ultimate Werewolf: Ultimate Edition," the 2013 version, is my favorite as far as the art. The villagers look much better, there are two Seers (male and female, as opposed to just female), and I don't think there are any cards that really bother me aesthetically. (However, the card backs are nicer in the Revised and Deluxe Editions than in the Ultimate Edition... So I'm still unsure which one I want.)The bottom line: If the Villager cards don't bother you, and if you don't care for a larger variety of roles, then this version (Revised Edition) is for you. If you want more variety, I think it's worth it to pay a little extra for the Deluxe Edition. And if you don't like the Villager cards, then check out the Ultimate Edition (I don't believe the 2013 version is offered on Amazon, though, and the previous versions have weird-looking werewolves, so you might want to look elsewhere).Happy werewolfing! 4A great timeYou can play this with any decent to huge group. I like that Ultimate Werewolf has an app so anarrator isn't necessary. This is a game that largely relies on debating, discussing and bluffing as villagers are stalked by werewolves. There can be more than one as well.Villagers are basic people who just discuss killing a werewolf. They're good for beginners but overall there are many neat roles for a varied experience. The art is solid know this version. It's a fun game that can take 5 minutes or last hours depending on how active nomeolves are. 5Fun game for a larger group. My son (13) loves this game. We played it during a family get together and had a good time. We only had five players so altered the rules enough to allow narrator to play as well. We used a prop that the wolf would move instead of pointing for the narrator to see. 5Perfect game for quick learning and fast pace funI played this with some close friends at a New Years party I hosted and we couldn't stop playing. its super easy to understand and you'll get addicted after playing one game! I think we played a total of 8 games in a row switching out various cards each time to keep the game interesting. 5
