Customer Reviews

Despite leaks, fun explorationThis is the second or third one we've used. This is the first one that leaked--LIKE CRAZY. We used two 2-liter pepsi bottles and took off the the little plastic remnant of the lids on each. Then we filled one bottle about 2/3 full, and connected them as directed. As soon as we turned the system so the water-filled bottle was on top, our work space was drenched. We checked and tightened the bottles and tried again. Same result. No matter what we did, the system leaked. So, we took it apart and used teflon tape on each of the bottles and that prevented the leaks. We have been using this system for about a week and have no new leaks.I would suggest using the strongest 2-liter bottles you can find. These pepsi bottles are thin and the bottoms dent easily. 3CANNOT RETURN ITEMI bought this product a couple of years ago and it was great. I decided to buy 2 more but I was sent the after market ones. Not the same as the original at all. If I wanted an aftermarket brand, I would have paid $1 for it, not $5 for one that doesn't work! It pops off the soda bottle if it hits the ground, which, of course it will because children are the ones using it. None of this is a big deal because you can usually return it if it doesn't work, but YOU CANNOT RETURN THIS ITEM. So now I'm out $10 (because bought 2). I can probably make it work with plumber's tape, but I shouldn't have to. If that was the case, I would have stuck with the $12 for 12 ones. I'm pretty annoyed, if you can't tell. 1Remove the circle rings off your bottle to prevent leaks. My 4-year-old daughter asked for this to do a science project. I ordered it for her, paying full price. It was received in the proper packaging, we received the color yellow. We used two 2 liter bottles. We had to remove the circle ring on the bottles to get a good seal. If you don't remove the ring on the bottle the tube will leak. It's really easy to get the tornado going, and my 4-year-old can do this on her own. I'd buy this again given the need. 5Scam!I ordered this tornado tube as opposed to any other less expensive tornado tube on amazon because I thought it was the real thing. It didn't come in any kind of manufacturer packaging. Only a clear plastic ziplock baggie with a sticker on it that said tornado tube. I gave it the benefit of the doubt. My little boy was really excited he's been waiting a long time for me to have the extra money to order this. Worked great for about a week. No leaks and and the bottles screwed on nice and tight. Now the bottles won't screw on right, it gets crossed threaded very easily and it leaks all over the place. It is a heavy duty piece of plastic, it's not flimsy or breakable like some of the other ones on here so I don't understand why this is happening. I feel like I got scammed. 2Not a perfect fitTried 5 different pairs of bottles and they all leaked. Thread's just aren't uniform/universal anymore. You can add Teflon tape and it helps, but it's not a sealed environment. Leaks allow for changes in internal pressure and the "tornado" is effected. Our solution was a 2-part epoxy designed for plastic. Followed by a coating of CA super glue around the joints that was set using an accelerator. This is only a partial fix because gluing PET is almost impossible . These flaws added to several curious kids and a leak WILL happen 2Still tornado tubesI had at least one tornado tube when I was a kid. Now that I'm grown up I've got a nephew that's been "into" tornado shows on TV (courtesy of his Pops) lately, so that prompted me to see if you could still get them. Sure enough, here they are, pretty much just like you remember them.Bought two - one for my nephew and one for my daughter. I actually used 20 oz bottles rather than 2 liters since it's what was more readily available. Don't know if that made a difference but the seal on the bottles wasn't that great; don't recall if they used to come with any kind of rubber washer or such, but they don't now. Used a couple of rubber bands to seal one of them as that's the best I had handy and teflon tape to seal the other. Some spare rubber garden hose washers from the hardware store would probably work really well if you had any laying around (I don't at the moment).Other than that they still work just like they used to. Swirl swirl, tornado. 3It was great for my classIt was great for my class. I am a preschool teacher and I always have a sensory table available. This is a hit, I had to get 2 atleast. The children really enjoyed it. I also used it to charge my water. It tasted better after spinning it about 8 times. big difference. If this was helpful could you please click the yes button so I know these reviews are worth writing. Thank you. 5Works great. Just use 5/8" hose washers to prevent any possible leaks. This is an excellent product. Some people say that it energizes water when you form that cyclone several times so it is better for you to drink. I use distilled water myself and that is very healthy because it attaches itself to unwanted heavy metals deposited in your body and flushes them out.As far as any problems with leaks, they are easily solve by putting a 5/8" garden hose washer on each interface. I noticed that there are quite a few manufacturers of this type of product. If one wanted to stand out and gain market share I suggest that they include the garden hose washers in the package. This would definitely give it a five star rating. 4Knock offs includedOrdered two of these, received one official tornado tube and one "knock off" brand. Had I wanted a knock off I would have ordered one, which were about $2.00 cheaper. Disappointed! 1Used for my Sawyer Squeeze to make it a gravity feed.I didn't use this for its intended purpose for making a tornado between two 2 liter bottles. I Used it in conjunction with a Sawyer Squeeze water filter in order to convert it to a gravity feed system. You do need to sand down each side a small amount, you can cut 1/16" inch off each side with a sawzall or hacksaw or just use circular motions on a piece of sandpaper like I did. The tornado tube worked perfectly for this function and will still work as a tornado tube if you want to bust it out for the kids. I attached a couple pictures of my setup if anyone could benefit from it. 5
