We got this for our 2 year old that loves puzzles and letters, so it was a win win for us. He loved them so much that we had to take in a couple of the puzzles to daycare to help sooth him when he was having a rough days. All the puzzles are either 3 or 4 letter words and are pretty easy to put together. The puzzles themselves are pretty sturdy, but not too stiff that it makes it hard to put them together. The words spelled out in these puzzles are popular words that toddlers can easily recognize the pictures of like dog, cat, pie, bird, bug, tree, which is perfect for helping them connect the dots of how to spell there favorite things while keeping them entertained at the same time.The only downside I can say about this is that it is that the storage isn't ideal. There really isn't a way to separate the puzzles, so all the different puzzle pieces mix together in the box. Our son will dump out all the pieces and you kind of have to do a scavenger hunt for the right pieces. Right now we just find a couple of his favorite words and leave them out on a table so we don't have to constantly go through the box and find the right pieces for each of those puzzles. With that being said, our son is only 2, so as he gets older, he will be able to sort through all the pieces in the box and match them to the right puzzles. In fact, it could end up being a challenge for him, and a good thing. 5Great starter for learning words and spelling.I purchased the spelling puzzle word set to help my 2 year old start reading since he knows words and the alphabet. I was worried because he hates sitting down and reading, he's more of a hands on building tracks and putting things together, but this peaked his interest. This was the perfect way to help him learn that letters make up words. When the box arrived, some letter puzzles were already put together, some apart due to shipping. I wasn't bothered by it because it took less than 5 min to put letters together. You get 10 4-letter puzzles and 10 3-letter puzzles. The pictures were somewhat difficult, especially as they are the centerpiece of each puzzle. She had some trouble figuring out what letter each picture would start with. Most of the pictures were good, but to a 4 yr old life is quite difficult when your parent is telling you that elephant does not start with "L". The puzzle pieces allow me to create several different activities with the children. The children respond enthusiastically to the cards. They like finding and putting the rhyming pieces together. The only problem I've had is that the illustration on a few of the cards is ambiguous: a picture that looks like a monkey (the children's usual response) is labeled "ape". I bought this set first and then found others at a discount chain. My grandson is very interested in spelling and he loves puzzles. Perfect fit, pun intended. Another reviewer suggested mixing pieces from several sets together to make it more of a challenge. I love the idea and will utilize it. My husband hid the pictures and had our grandson sound out the words and then see if he got it right. Simple concept that can be used in multiple ways. 5
