Customer Reviews

Great looking, but not too functional.I like these dice, but they have a few downsides I can't overlook.Pros:- I love the tone of beige used, it really brings out the steampunk feel.- Intricate designs on the dice.- Good quality dice.Cons:- They're rather small compared to my other dice.- The numbers are hard to read.- Don't roll the most accurately. They're not meant for precision though. Conclusion: Great novelty dice, but I wouldn't actually use them in play in fear of wearing off the design and because I'd rather not spend several minutes deciding what I rolled on my d20. I bought them just for looks, so due to that, I give them a 4/5 because they do an excellent job of that. The one point off is the readability that I'd still like even novelty dice to have. 4Sixes and NinesThe dice are very nice looking. I really like them and aesthetically they are what I want in dice. I'm going to talk entirely about the cons of this product, but I do like these dice. I don't regret purchasing them and I will continue to use them.1. They feel small. They don't feel like monopoly dice, but they do feel small compared to other dice I've used previously.2. The sixes and nines look identical. They have a very tiny dot on the bottom of the number to say "This is supposed to be on the bottom" but it took me a few seconds to realize what it was. On the D20 both the six and the nine have a dot to indicate which number it actually is. On the D 8 and the D12 only the six has a dot to indicate that it is a six. This is a design flaw to me. They used the dot to limit the amount of space used to indicate the proper number(six or nine). However, other dice typically use an underline to indicate proper positioning. At the very least both the six and nine should be dotted on the D8 and D12, but only the D20 has dots underneath both.3. The D20 has no 20. Instead it has has a gear. It is slightly confusing and I really would prefer it to say "20". It does not.All in all, it's a good product aesthetically. I just think as dice it could do a better job. Still, I use them and I have no problem using them. 4Very Victorian, Very Steampunk, Very Nice! These dice are solid and well-made; they arrived quickly and were well-packaged. There is lots of artistic detail, which is molded (not 'carved') into the surface and colored in, not just printed on the flat faces of the dice. The colors give a very authentic aged-ivory look. The overall look and feel is very good, and they should be long-lasting. This set of seven dice comes in a very nice paperboard display box with a window - the dice are presented very much like the picture on the web page. Makes a great gift! 5These are really awesome!I bought these Q-Workshop dice for my first D&D game. Let's just say, everybody (even the seasoned D&D veterans) really envied me when we got together and played. The design is really clear and sharp and the graphic elements are awesome. I love the beige/black combo because the dice look sort of like antiqued ivory, which I think enhance the "Steampunkiness." They roll really well too, and the numbers are easy to read. I'm really glad I chose these.Get this set. You won't regret it. :) 5For the price they could be betterThese are close to $20 dice. I was going to look for these in a store but all the stores had were Cheesex so I'll compare them to that brand. The quality and athtetics are much higher then Cheesex. The shapes seem to be very accurate, they feel as if they would roll accurately but I havn't done any testing. Also the numbers arn't to hard to read. Now for the bad. The set I received does have some flaws. The d4's design is not centered very well, atleast one side on it is noticeably off center to the left. When I hold my d10 up close to a light I can see a lot of small scratches around the numbers, specially around the five. The line quality is pretty good. Each dice seems to have a little missing line here or there but its not bad. The darkness does vary slightly from one face to the next specially for the d20; but these flaws are hard to notice unless you are looking for them up close.Overall they are very attractive and expensive. The numbers arn't etched as deep as I would of liked, I wouldn't call them carved by any means. Also only about 40% of the detail (including numbers) is really etched in, the rest of the detailing around the edges of the face is only slightly indented. The numbers arn't that large or to small but the 6 and 9 are so identical that you will have to check the opposing number every roll for accuracy. This Steampunk set is my favorite compared to my 3 different Cheesex sets but this 1 set cost the same as all 3 of those combined. If they sold this product for $9.99 I would give it 5 stars. 3these are superior dice. Nice imprinting and moldingWith the added artwork, these are not the easiest to read. I would rate them 5 stars for looks. For game play, I can see DM/GM's telling someone to use another set because these are too hard to read. However, if you are running the game... No one can tell the DM what dice to use...Overall, these are superior dice. Nice imprinting and molding. White is easier to see than the metal version on these dice. 4Nice look, but hard to read. The dice are a nice novelty but they are pretty hard to read -- especially in medium lighting. I bought two sets and for the first time we played folks tried to be the first to grab them. But in subsequent games, folks seemed to go back to easy-to-read dice... You'd have to be pretty hardcore steampunk (and have younger eyes than I have) to use these regularly instead of some of the much easier-to-read dice out there. I think if they were "more steampunk" (e.g. with some little metal colored gears or something) I could at least rate them higher for the "look". But even the look is really not that cool. Spend your money on some of the cheaper and nicer looking dice out there. 3Great gift for a gamerI bought this as a gift for a friend. He got the best of both worlds with this- He's a fan of steampunk fashion and ingenuity, and also plays a lot of games that require different stiles of dice. They are plastic, which I almost wish they were metal or wood. The ink has scratched and faded somewhat from how oil from hands contact the dye. 4Beautiful dice.I recently started Role-playing again after many years and wanted to commemorate the occasion with some new dice, but not just any dice, I wanted something special and I found it in this set. I like steampunk and I am an artist so I really appreciate the design and detail in this set, the DM running our games dislikes them because they can be hard to read, but I don't have a problem with them. They also seem like they might be a little light, but then most new dice do, like they are using a less dense plastic..? but again, that seems to be most dice today, not just this set. overall I am VERY happy, they are a fun set and can not be confused with anyone else's dice during game play. 5Beautifully detailed, high-quality piecesWhile I know that it's not the purpose they were originally intended for, I use these as part of a bone divination set. They're perfect for this. They have a lovely antique look to them and a nice weight in the hand. The dice themselves are more ivory than white and the designs are in a soft warm black. The designs are also "carved" in, not just stamped or printed on, and I expect to have many years of service from them. 5
