Customer Reviews

Great toy!My year old grandson LOVES this. I showed him how to do it and cup the top of it on and off with his hand to make it sound even more extreme. I thought he might be afraid of it, but his eyes lit up and it s now one of his favorite toys. I bought one for my house and another for his. I was initially worried that the spiral tail could whip up wnd hit him in the face, but he s pretty active and it hasn t been an issue at all. I did have to put clear packing tape around (not over), the top opening because he used it teething and the paper got soggy and a little scraped off. The tape fixed it. 5Fun Toy / InstrumentGot one for my son in law and one fot my younger daughter. Both really have fun playing with them, as well as the rest of the family -- kind of contagious!! Anxious to see how this "interacts" with other instruments. Younger daughter is Music Education major and has lots of ideas for applications with wide variety of other instruments. Reminds me of the old "Zoob Tubes" from about 1990. Those were fun as well. Have already ordered one more as a gift, and may have to get my very own! 5Suprising Noises!I admit I didn't exactly know what I was getting when I ordered this thunder tube for my son. When he opened the package my family spent half an hour passing it around and seeing what noises we could make with it: everything from a sharp crash of thunder to mysterious low alien warbles. It's great fun and he's moved on to recording sound effects with it for the stop-motion animation movies he makes. 5so the sound out of this was great. We used it for our musical (the Sound ...Ok...so the sound out of this was great. We used it for our musical (the Sound of Music has that big storm scene) and it worked quite well for about a week. Then, at dress rehearsal, the 'drumhead' part with the spring ripped off mid-thundering. I was able to hold it on with two fingers and we finished the scene. Then I gorilla-glued it back together and it's worked fine since. So, for the price, it works quite well. It did break, but we were able to fix it easily and it still works. 3Fun noise toyI attached a cheap contact mic to the membrane with double-sided tape. I plug that into a momentary Killswitch, and from there into an array of effects pedals. I also attached a spring to the shell of the thunder tube for additional noisemaking options. Fun stuff. 5Uses for the Thunder TubeI wonder how it was invented... was its predecessor a cardboard toilet paper tube with tape on one side and a spring on the other ? I hooked a mike to it and it made a very loud boingo sound. it can also be scraped like a guiro. But my pick of uses was....an old piano. The 5th octave "C" , the very last note on the piano wasn't working ..so.. I dangled the springy end where the piano wire was and mounted the tube on the piano. So when I wanted a thundering boing, the key strung the hammer, and the hammer struck the spring. But the sound was more l9ike a thudding garbage can lid. More uses later, but suffice to say, I like it. 4I don't think I've ever written a review before but here goes a good one. First of allOk Amazon....I don't think I've ever written a review before but here goes a good one. First of all, I am a percussionist and have taught band in the public schools for 25 years. I have drum corps experience with the Colt's and the Cavaliers and I have years of performing experience with two orchestras. As I shopped around for this novelty item I was very hesitant to purchase. It looks cheap, and the dimensions led me to believe the sound quality would be pretty dismal. Upon opening my amazon box and seeing the product's box I was actually laughing to my coworker about how we just wasted $12. We opened the first one and the looks on our faces were of shock and awe. We opened the other two and began playing with them and laughing at ourselves for being so cynical. The truth is this: they sound good, they are unique, they are louder than I thought they would be, they have a much better quality of sound than I thought. We are surprised and you will be too. Cant get hurt on the price either.Aaron Seel 5Wonderful Toy/Instrument - Caution: Very AddictiveThe sound that comes out of this device is almost too good to be true. My wife thought there was an amplifier inside. As someone else has said, it is a strangely addictive instrument. The range of sounds runs from VERY loud thunderto the soft chip of a bird. You need absolutely no musical training to play - which makes me feel great since I am musicallyinept. Also nice to have something this fascinating that is not plugged into the computer. 5Bring on the ThunderThis toy is the cat's meow. For something so simple, it really does give the impression of rolling thunder. We used this as a prop for a play where the cast does all the sound effects from the stage. A cast member had one and I immediately bought another one because I was so impressed with it. It will go into my prop bin for future use and I may pull it out just to play with it. 5Lots of cool sounds are availableAfter watching a couple of thunder tube videos to see exactly what this was all about, I decided "why not?" and bought one. Realistically until everybody starts writing for thunder tube in concert band scores, you're not going to be buying one of these for any other reason. Lots of cool sounds are available, especially when you wa-wa the hole with your hand like on a kalimba. If you don't know how to hold it correctly to make the sounds most effectively, just look up a video about it. The trick is to rotate it side to side with your wrist to make all the motion rather than waving it around with your arm. Idly making sounds on mine as made me want to buy the REMO Thunder Tube, 6" Diameter, 6" Length, 'Stormy' Graphics bigger one, but at almost $30 it's less justifiable as a completely useless "why not?" purchase. I feel like you could make your own in any size you want (but especially bigger sizes) for a lot less money. It's not complicated. Still, this one is closer to the right price and I'm pleased with my purchase. 5
