Customer Reviews

Great gameLet me start by saying that I m not a game player. I grew up with a family of sore losers so game playing was never fun for me.I bought this game on a whim as something fun to do when we have a little downtime and don t want to watch TV.My husband loves playing card games and I hate trying to play the standard fare of poker, gin etc but I love word play and games. This game is so fun because it combines both our loves! It took me a couple of tries to get how to play it ( it s not hard, I m just a slow learner) but I got it on our third game ( and won!) and I even managed to play solitarily( love that is has that option!).This game is a blast, it goes fairly quickly and I can t wait to play with friends! 5Love this game!If you like word games, word scrambles, word with friends, etc... this game is for you!I introduced this game to my family about 12 years ago and we play at least once at week. We are on our fourth deck of cards and our third short word dictionary (which you can now purchase separately!!). I used to carry it in my purse and we would play it at the table in the restaurant until our food came...top scorer to that point was the winner! We also have some house rules like no subtracting points, you just get a zero...that was put into effect by my grandmother :) It is a great game that helped my daughter learn to spell better and when she was really little we made it so you couldn't use 2 letter words so it was more challenging for her.I can't say enough about how much fun we have with this game!!For the short word dictionary, I would suggest to the publisher: USE A SPIRAL BINDING!! I actually take mine into Office Max, have them cut off the spine & spiral bind the book. We used our first one so much that the pages were falling out all over the place & we had so much tape in there, we just ordered a whole new set because back then they didn't sell the dictionary by itself that we could find. 5Best word game! This is a great card game (and my favorite), if you are a word game fan. It challenges you to think, requires strategy, but can ruin your round with the luck of the draw. Drag the rounds out, hoping for high counters, or go out immediately and catch your opponents with a potential bad hand. Every round from three cards to the final round of ten brings a new dynamic to the game. It is compact and travels well, so take it along for some fun family time, don't forget a scrabble dictionary if you need to challenge an opponent's word! 5The hand-held word game for Scrabble lovers everywhere.I still love a good old-fashioned game of Scrabble, but for once I've found a small game that I think might beat it. While not in a tin or sturdy box (why oh why don't all card games come in more rugged, re-use friendly containers?) the Quiddler cards are high quality and the two stacks fit nicely back into the cheap cardboard box because they provide a small plastic card holder. The game works in rounds where you try to score as many points as possible by building words, and each round adds additional cards to the mix. It's a snap to learn, fun to play, and an absolute must for fans of Scrabble. 5THE SQUIDDLERQuiddler has got to be hands down the most engaging, educational, and fun game I've come across in my 26 years on this planet. It combines strategy and quick thinking. Each round the pressure gets more intense as you continue your grueling task to create words that will get you the most points. If you have a competitive spirit but also enjoy family friendly atmospheres then this is the game for you. Some criticism I've heard about quiddler is the fact that rounds take too long but that simply is not the case. It's like any game you need to set a time limit per term...60-90 seconds should suffice depending on your experience. You have the option to use a dictionary or I would prefer the Webster app on your phone to look up words. If your feeling frisky you can go "naked"...its the term advanced quiddler players like to use for going a game without a dictionary. It can be done but it is a daunting task...sweat will pour down your forehead as you get to the later rounds of the game unsure as to whether or not your word will qualify according to Webster. If your a fan of the card games "golf", skip bo, uno or a regular scrabble player, then quiddler is sure to tickle your fancy. I for one can say it changed my life. I'm more confident in the office, I've rebuilt relationships with old friends, and this year I'll be competing in my first marathon. Quiddler has a way of bringing out the best in people. 5A fun and challenging gameQuiddler is somewhat like the old board game Scrabble. Only using cards vs. tiles on a board. The way the play was designed is truly fun. A total of eight rounds are played. After the eighth round, the player with the highest score wins. The first round starts with three cards dealt to each player. The second round four cards, the third five cards etc., until the eight round where 10 cards are dealt. During a players turn, the player draws one card from the top of the deck or from the discard pile. If the drawn card helps in forming words, that card is kept and the player must select one other card to discard. A player can only have the number of cards in their hand that are dealt for a given round. Players try to make as many words as possible with the cards in their hand during each round. A round ends when a player goes out by laying down the words built using all the cards in their hand plus a discard. The above is a brief description of the game. There are a number of rules that must be observed such as the types of words that can't be used. Its great mind exercise. We love the game and play it most of the time we get together with family and friends. 5Great fun to play with grandchild and/or adultsI was unfamiliar with Quiddler, but I really enjoy Scrabble and this is similar -- sort of Scrabble with playing cards. You can play it alone like a Solitaire game, and that is fun, but it is even better with others. I played it first with 3 other adults and then just with my 4th grade grandchild, who commented that two new words were learned that day! You can finish more quickly than with a Scrabble game. I would agree with the directions that you should agree beforehand on a dictionary that would be the final arbiter! We used the Merriam-Webster app that I had on my iPhone. Highly recommended. 5Great Word Game For the Entire FamilyThis is a fun word game for young and old alike. In each round, the person who makes the MOST words gets a 10-point bonus score, as does the person who makes the LONGEST word. Each card (either a single letter or a letter combination, such as QU or CH, etc.) has a numerical value, so the total of those add to one's score. Also, whatever cards one has left in their hand after a last turn when someone else plays all their cards and discards to "go out," count against one's score for that hand. The family can decide in advance how many rounds to play. 5Fun, friendly, beautiful game!I love this game! it is engaging for all but perhaps the youngest grades of readers. The artwork on the cards is absolutely beautiful. This game is sometimes compared to Scrabble. I'm personally pretty poor at Scrabble, which I find opaque, limited, and unforgiving. I find Quiddler is much friendlier, certainly as challenging as Scrabble, but with increasing opportunities to make words and phrases. 5The Quiddler Dictionary ROCKS!!!!I have only had it for a few days, but this dictionary is great! It has tons of short words that I never knew existed and it has definitely stepped up my Quiddler score! I love that it is organized the way the game is played, it's super-helpful when trying to quickly find a word before it's my turn. I haven't tried it with Scrabble yet (my family likes the Quiddler rule that you can look in a dictionary when it's not your turn so we play Scrabble that way, too), but I think the organization will be helpful to look for words with the number of tiles I have left.It has already become the go-to reference for playing Quiddler at my game night group. I think I need to order another because everyone was fighting for it while we played! 5
