Customer Reviews

Purchased for a 20 month old great nephew and he loved itPurchased for a 20 month old great nephew and he loved it. He was able to put the pieces together by himself and he understood the concept of making it all work together. He played with it no stop constantly rearranging the gears and turning the crank; even his older brother (8) paused a few minutes to play with it. Its a small kit and more tiles and gears would have been a bonus but for a starter pack it was perfect. 5Sturdy parts, great for toddlersWe bought these for our 3 year old 4 months ago, and happily all of the pieces have held up well. These are very entertaining even for us parents and are great for learning colors and developing gross and fine motor skills. The white base pieces are a little difficult for little hands to push together, but that's okay by me because they don't slip apart while playing with them. 5a great little toy for a cihld with autismI researched toys for children with Autism, and this showed up.. I bought it for my son.. He was just blown away with it.. all the different ways to use it.. the white block board are shaped like a puzzle pieces with wholes for the wheels to be fit into. There are round parts that snap to the back of the colorful wheels with 4 pointed pieces that are equally spaced apart that fit into the white peg board. It is hard to see where you have the back at to snap due to the wheels being so big..but you twist it to get the 4 points to get inside the peg board.. The white blocks interlock quite similar to waffle blocks it can be stood up to be 3d..He loves this, like cant get enough..he has however put the pegs in the base so hard he has bent/ broke the back part easily but there are 4 points to fit into the white block board so it is not such a big deal the can be bent back into shape and 1 being broke will not make it not function.. It is a super fun toy. 5Like this setOrdered this for my 2 and 3 year olds; package says 3+, but when they boys opened this Christmas morning they couldn't get enough of it. The plastic is sturdy (even the little white connector pieces) and I haven't had any problems with stickers coming off. Only gave it four stars because although it says 55 pieces, they are counting every piece, not just gears, which I think is a little unnecessary. You basically get exactly what's pictured on the box. That being said, I don't think the product would necessarily be better if there were more, this seems to be enough for introducing little ones to gears and connecting pieces and is enough to make a rectangle box full of gears or a long "snake" of gears. I think you can get more if your little one seems to have a real interest in exploring the world of gears. The pieces are also not too small for a little baby to be around, as long as nothing has been broken. It took me a few days to decide between this set and another one, I am happy I chose this one. 4They have four prongs which are very delicate and break off easily. After a few years' occasional use I had ...I already had a set of these and bought an additional set because of the weakness of the pieces which hold the gears onto the bases. They have four prongs which are very delicate and break off easily. After a few years' occasional use I had only two (of 24) left. The new set has held up better, but three of the four prongs which hold the crank onto a gear have also broken. They should sell these more delicate parts separately so you can replace them rather than having to buy an entire new set. I won't buy another. 3Fun, ingenious, and educational toyOur two and a half year old son received this as a Christmas present and loves it. Unlike other reviews, he has no difficulty putting together and taking apart that various parts of the toy. Perhaps we got lucky and got a box that has parts that don't fit together too tightly. There are 16 white "base" pieces that fit together in an unlimited number of configurations. After the user puts all the base pieces together, you can then insert a four-pegged "axle" into the base which in turn will hold one of several different sized gears. The challenge is to lay out the gears so that the teeth of the adjacent gear(s) interlock just enough to spin freely when user turns the initial gear. The layout of the base pieces and the gears are only limited by the user's imagination. With normal play, our son doesn't have any problems with the pieces coming apart or separating from each other as others have commented about in their reviews. When he begins to spin the gears too fast, or gets a little rough with them, then the base or gears begin to separate -- as is to be expected. Also, we've found that working on a hard surface such as a table top or hardwood floor works much better than building the game on a soft surface such as a carpeted floor or sofa cushion. The gears are colorful. Some have stickers, some don't. The stickers have cool patterns that make interesting effects when the gears are rotating. All the pieces are made from plastic durable enough for normal play. After I help him put all the gears together, and before he turns the crank to spin the gears, I'll ask him which direction a specific gear will turn. This makes him think about how the gears are interconnected with each other and the fact that adjacent gears rotate in opposite directions of each other. This is how I turn a fun game into an educational game. When he gets it right, we high-five.If your kids like hands-on games and like creating things, I'm sure they'll love this toy. 5My 2.5 Year Old's Favorite Toy (Mine, Too!)My 2 1/2 year old son absolutely loves this. I love that he can play with it by himself or we can work on building something together, too. Even I find it pretty mesmerizing, and fun to see how we can connect the different pieces and what works and doesn't work to get all the gears going. He is very "mechanical" and determined to figure out how things work, he has a lot of patience for these kinds of things. That's why I knew it would be a great toy for him. It took him about a day to figure out how to put the pieces together by himself. It was frustrating for him at first, so this might not be the greatest toy for kids who aren't as interested in "engineering" or patient. The white pegs that fit onto the back of the gears also seem pretty flimsy, as other reviewers stated, but it's been about a month and so far none have bent or broken. It would be nice if the company offered them for purchase as replacement pieces. 5NiftyI bought two of these toys to mount on a board on the wall in my son's room, as both a toy and a decoration. This has made one big rectangle that work together. There are white pieces that fit on the backs of the gears that go into a plastic peg-board. These pieces are a little hard to get on, because they are white pegs going into a white board. We took a permanent marker and placed dots on the topside of each piece where the holes were to make lining it up a little easier. The disks slide on great and move great as long as your little one doesn't pull upward. The gears can be stacked one on top of eachother. Because my son is young (under 2), we are just using the big disks and the two handles right now, which has simplified things. As he gets a little bigger we'll add the other disks and build more layers. My son likes this toy (likes gears) and was quick to pick up on how to assemble them, but as a few weeks have gone by, it isn't his go to toy. He's still a little young for it. The colors are attractive and the disks are a good size. If your child still puts things in his/her mouth, the white pieces on the back could be a problem. 5So much fun!I bought these for my 3 year old for Christmas this year and he LOVES them! Sometimes he'll get a little frustrated if he can't get the pegs in the holes quick enough or if he can't get one positioned close enough to turn with the others, but he does pretty well and I try to stay near enough to help if needed. I think its a good lesson in patience and trying not to get frustrated when something doesn't work the first time. I gave them to him while I was washing dishes a few days ago and he managed to put all of them together all by himself without ever getting frustrated or asking for help....and they all turned. I love that the pieces are sturdy and vibrant. They're easy to put together and interesting to make a new design each time. 5Pretty fun toyGot this as my 2 year old's birthday present, knowing that my 4 year old would also play with it. It can be a tad difficult to make the gears slide in on the base pieces. The base pieces do tend to slide apart from each other with some pressure, it's not like a soild base. But it does add flexibility that I enjoy, and the base parts coming apart isn't really a deal breaker - just push them back together and no harm is done. It is a good gear to base ratio, I tend to have trouble getting ever single gear on the 4x4 base, so it's not like they skimp on the gears. It is fairly trippy to watch. My kids don't play with it as much as I thought they would, but that's not really the fault of the toy. They do like to help me put the pieces on -they usually need help positioning because they like to put them where the gears aren't touching, but I reposition them and then they can push them in on their own. They like to spin it around and around and watch for a few minutes. But this isn't really a toy they can play with independently yet. But we do like playing with it together and I foresee them growing into this toy in a few years. Until then it's still a fun toy for the price, quality, and I think it will last for quite a while. 4
