Best Value Found for an Interactive Dinosaur ToyAs anyone who has researched interactive dinosaur toys knows, they can be quite expensive. As of the date I am writing this review, this toy has been around 15 dollars on Amazon for at least the last few months. For the size of the toy, and what it can do, this is a GREAT value. It bites, it screeches, it "spits" venom, but my favorite, it purrs when petted on the head or under the chin. In my mind, it is the purring that lets children connect with it more as a pet.To get the full range of activity, one needs to know that there is a switch and there are three positions on the switch. The "off" position is the middle position of the switch. One activity position is pre-set on the toy in the box, so people can "test" the animal while it is still in the box--obviously used most when the toy is sold in retail locations. However, to get ALL the functionality, one must push past this position, past the off position, and then to the other position on the opposite side of "Off".The other advantage that this toy has is that one can carry it on one's arm, similar to how someone would carry a falcon. This allows the holder of the toy to show it off, and be able to easily activate the additional button on the tail to get the toy to snap at someone who gets too close.What ages does this appeal to? Well, this was bought for my 5 year old nephew for his B-day, and he absolutely loved it as well as his friends. His two and a half year old brother quickly snapped it up every time his brother stopped playing with it. The only way I could get it away from the two year old was by telling him it had to take a nap, and then put it in the bedroom.Great fun, great value. The only other interactive dinosaur toys you can get for the 15 dollar range are much smaller and have less functionality. 5Scary and funThe toy finally arrived but as I started opening the box I almost dropped the package-the dinosaur was making chomping noises! The first thing it did when I liberated it from the packaging was lunge at me. I knew right then this would be a great present for my grandson. It was especially fun to rewrap and try to keep it quiet. It definitely added to the fun of wrapping (a little sarcasm here because I am not overly fond of wrapping but this toy kept me entertained). On Christmas morning my whole family opens presents together. Imagine a 6-year-old's delight to have a scary dinosaur to chase the family around with! Even the older males liked it. He is just learning about dinosaurs in school and he was very excited to share this present with everyone. 5little disappointedWe were looking forward to gettng this toy, but once we did it was not what we thought it would be. I actually bought 2 of these, one was a gift for a friend and her 4 year old was a little affraid of the toy at first, but the toy did not work well at all, it barely did anything. The one for my 3 year old son worked better, but did not do as much as thought. I read a lot of the reviews and thought it would be great, but it wasn't. I would not tell anyone to buy this toy. 3Surprise hit!I bought this toy as a gift for my 5 year old nephew because a) he loves dinosaurs, b) he seems to have every dinosaur toy BUT this one, c) it got great reviews, and (probably most importantly) d) it was on sale. Worked for me. Then the toy came and it came time to put it in a gift bag. He kept moving and screeching from inside the bag, which amused my 2 small children greatly. My nephew loved it instantly, and there was a fight between him and my 4 year old son about who got to hold it. The way this dinosaur interacts is awesome. He'll screech and snap when he's excited, and when he's calmer he'll almost purr. The boys kept holding it like a baby and it would "fall asleep". Needless to say, this toy was a winner! 5New Favorite ToyI LOVE this dinosaur! I bought it as a Christmas gift and found myself showing it off and playing with it often before the holidays. Once we had it out of box and on full battery powre it was even better. He growls, he snaps, he spits (although the plastic spittle is a little hard to insert and he has no aim), and--my personal favorite--he can play peek-a-boo. I don't think this is what Mattel had in mind, but it never grows old to cover his eyes, pat his head, and have him lunge for you! This product is one of few that I actually think may be under-priced for what it can do! 5Fun Dinosaur! Not Good Guard Dog ThoughI got this dinosaur and I had so much fun with this... even when his head stopped working and he would not interact when I pet him! But petting is not everything about him! He is still a fun guy!He is not very good at guarding though... he does a long screech before the attack. But if you are thinking of buying it; I am sorry to say but I would not pay that much, I got him much cheaper!I hope you have fun with him!!! -Cam 4My 4-Year Old Liked It....My 4-year old daughter loved this toy. I, on the other hand, was not too crazy about it. For instance, it comes with a "bug looking thing" that you are supposed to feed it then it spits it out. They should have included more than 1 because my daughter lost it on the first day!!!! Besides that it doesn't do much but make some noises but it wasn't expensive so it's understandable but they should have included more "bugs!!!!" 4Very fun toy, bug doesn't shoot farThis toy was a little tricky to get out of the box. It is kind of cool that it is trying to bite you while you are moving it around. I was worried that little children would be scared of it, but it is so addicting to play with for them. They are not scared at all. I couldn't figure out when it was on patrol- waiting to surprise someone. You could easily rock its head back to get it biting. It is difficult for children to place the bug into the little hole inside its mouth so that it can shoot it out. I always had to place the bug inside myself. I was worried that the bug would shoot far and hit the kids in the eye. But the bug doesn't shoot far or with high speed. It's a great toy. 5Great toy!I bought this toy for my 4 year old grandson for Christmas. He LOVES it! He and his 6 year old sister giggle and laugh at the hysterical actions of this little creature! I am so pleased with the durability of this product too. I highly recommend it. By the way, my small dogs were quite taken with it until it snapped at them! After that, they couldn't stop barking at it. Too funny! 5A Hit at the birthday party!The fact that this toys is shipped to you in demo mode is fantastic. The UPS guy was freaked out when he dropped this off because it was "screeching" every time the package shifted. The birthday package roared all the way to the party and continued to do so on the present table. When the recipient finally got to open it, everyone was standing around because they wanted to see what was making all that noise.It was loved by the child and has withstood a 5 year olds obsession with dinosaurs for 6 months so far! 4
