Customer Reviews

Powerful and pretty little crossbowI ended up with three of these (long story) so I have been able to see some of the variations in performance between them. There is a built in safety mechanism that keeps the crossbow from firing unless it has a dart - there is no way to pull the trigger unless the dart is all the way back. Two of the crossbows seem to hold the darts in place, while one of them will let the darts slide out if it's pointing slightly down. Another one has a trigger that is sticky and hard to pull. So some of the complaints that the crossbow doesn't work might be due to one of those two things. As for power, this shoots the darts as far as the jolt mini-blaster, which is the strongest nerf gun we own. The aim seems to depend more on the dart than the crossbow, but it's reasonably accurate - you won't win any archery competitions with this, but you should be able to knock over paper plates reasonably well.I do wish there was somewhere on the crossbow to hold the extra darts - it comes with three, but you can only shoot one at a time. There is plenty of space that they could have added dart holsters, such as along the bottom of the barrel or behind the grip.I thought the 'secret message' darts were gimmicky, but my son likes them.Altogether, these are fun little crossbows and a nice addition to the household nerf arsenal. The photo is for size reference - it's basically the size of a normal hand crossbow. 4One Star3rd one we've bought. they all break after a few shots 1A nice addition to the arsenal. This is powerful! Unlike other Nerf guns, this one does not have a safety to prevent it from firing 'too strong'. The elastic band projects the dart. It is more powerful than the other Nerf guns we have! It may be difficult for young children to load and fire it however. And it is slow to reload compared to the automatic and semi automatic guns. 5Be prepared for disappointment.Pros: This blaster is pretty, the decoder would be fun for a reader (my kiddo isn't there yet), and the darts are interchangeable with several other Nerf darts. This option makes replacement darts far less expensive than the Rebelle refill darts.Cons: The string is finnicky. Sometimes it sticks, it won't shoot if it's not angled properly. I got this at a great price for my son for Christmas so I'm really not regretting the purchase, but I know Nerf is capable of making better quality products than this and I hope that in the future, they will live up to that standard.UPDATE: Had to have this replaced twice almost immediately. Find something else. 2A Fun Blaster that Brings Something New to the TableFor this blaster's price point, it is well worth the purchase. The drawstring priming mechanism is definitely one-of-a-kind and offers a simple and silent alternative to using either a spring or a flywheel blaster, allowing the blaster to be easily used by anyone. The inclusion of the message revealer tube is a nice touch and I had more fun than I care to admit using it to reveal the messages on the darts.Perhaps the biggest gripe I have about this product is its overly-garish appearance, but I suppose that's more of a feature meant to draw the attention of a specific audience and not myself in particular. The handle is also worth mentioning as a neutral point as it is unique in design, but not particularly comfortable to hold. As a side comment, note that once you attach the crossbow arms, you cannot remove them without potentially damaging the plastic with sheer force. Not a flaw, but just something to keep in mind while playing with this toy.If you're looking for something quirky, new, and reliable to add to your Nerf collection, this blaster will fit the bill. Just be sure that you're okay with embossed diamonds and sparkly purple plastic. 5awesome buy. I bought this to paint and use ...awesome buy. I bought this to paint and use for cosplay. It works great, I actually had a lot of fun walking around and playing with this. The top part is glitter purple plastic.one of the darts has a code on it that you can decode with the red tube thing. It is a little advanced to understand where the string needs to pulled back to, but really easy once you get the hang of it. 4A true string firing crossbow!Had to knock off a star for the faulty "safety." But other than that its a true crossbow in that it fires a dart via string. As other reviewers stated the trigger can lock up on this. This is due to a "safety" that prevents the trigger from firing if a dart isn't in place. At first its an easy matter of making sure the dart is pushed back all the way to ensure that the trigger will work. But later on it gets finicky. There is a way to remove it but I have not tried it yet. Regardless it is a great little hand crossbow! 4Great idea but broke the first day!Stopped working after about 10 shots. Trigger stuck. Very disappointing! 1Stealthy awesome cool, for about 20 shots. When I got this gun everyone at the office was like "Whoa thats neat" despite the purple and pink styling. TBH I'm not 100% why nerf guns need to be marketed as a girls specific last I checked every girl I know that fires nerf guns doesn't care if it's purple or sparkly or blue and white. Regardless, After the first 20 or so shots, the cord became slack and the performance dropped considerably. It has destroyed about 30 darts now as when I can get it taut the dart ends curl up underneath the barrel and catch.I loved that it was completely silent and it was awesome for a little while, but it's so inconsistent if it's actually going to shoot, or chew up a dart that I don't want to bother anymore. To be fair my rampage does the same thing but I've since stopped using that gun as well. I wanted to like it, and I love that it's unique, I'm just frustrated that it fails to miserably right now. 2Looks Amazing, but MANY DisadvantagesI love the concept of a small hand crossbow blaster that's an actual "stringer", and so I decided to buy two of these about a year ago. They have given me endless troubles in performance and reliability. When it works, it's a very nice and more quiet than other blasters. When it doesn't work, there are 4 main things that go wrong:The first issue with firing the blaster is that the string sometimes goes underneath the dart, leaving the dart stuck loaded in, but with the string ending up on the wrong side of the dart. To get it ready to fire again requires taking out the dart, pulling the string back, and then putting the dart back in.The second issue is that firing the blaster itself is difficult. I'd say to use this blaster effectively, "modifying" it is MANDATORY. The locks that keep the string from being dry fired (and thus losing elasticity over time if left primed) detect darts poorly. Even after ripping that out, I had a difficult time pulling the trigger, and I had to shave off some of the plastic in the trigger mechanism for smooth operation. The third issue is that this blaster DESTROYS darts. Some of my darts have been split partly down the middle of the blaster, especially older darts. Dart damage occurs much more rapidly than with most other nerf blasters, and also it results in a misfire. The last main issue occurs often when the blaster is actually fired. A lot of the time, the darts spin out and land about 5-10 feet away from where they were fired. Unless a brand new dart is used, this happens very frequently. Also the opposing side laughs at you as you attempt to fire 3 times and fail to launch the dart any reasonable distance 3 times. The only positive thing I have to say about this blaster is that it is significantly quieter than other springer blasters. In my games of HvZ (when it worked) I was both able to prime AND load AND fire at zombies without giving away my position most of the time.tl;dr, I do not recommend this blaster. I have 2 of them and both of them are unreliable and overall poor blasters. 2
