Customer Reviews

1st was a dud but the replacement works great!I almost didn't purchase this bc of the reviews/rating. But i kept coming back to it bc it's so darn cute! Much cuter than the other options. So I decided to see for myself if it was a good buy. I'm so glad I did, it's very adorable & soft and fuzzy! It would be great for a boy or girl. I love so much about this thing! You can take the battery pack part of it out and the owl is machine washable! It's easy to set up, just follow the instructions. It has a bedtime mode, a nap time mode or you can just use it as a night light with music. You can adjust how long you want it to play music & light up when squeezed. You can adjust the volume and the brightness. The music is so soft, slow & soothing so that it's not a distraction that turns into a toy like most similar items. We keep It on the lowest volume. It helps to set the mood for sleep rather than entice play. You can set the lock so that your toddler can't mess with the settings if they get the velcro open. If they squeeze the owl before its time to wake it lights up yellow and there is a sweet little boys voice that tells them it's time to go back to sleep. When it's time to wake it will turn green, and stay green for 30 minutes, but it won't make any noise. That way if they are still sleeping it won't wake them. After the 30 min it will shut off but If they squeeze it, it will tell them it's okay to wake. My 3yr old is a great sleeper but started waking up early in the morning. The first night i decided to see if i could get her to sleep even later than normal so i set it for 7:30am. She came out of her room at 7 and was crying that the owl wouldn't tell her it was okay to wake up! Lol I thought i would give it another try and the next day she slept until 7:45am! Her normal wake up time is 7, but she started getting up between 6 and 6:30 when she was still grumpy and tired...which is why i bought this. Now she's sleeping until 7:30! Mommy is happy and my daughter loves her owl! Now if i could only get my 1 yr old to sleep later! Lol*Update*The 3rd night we went to use it, it had reset itself, just like other reviews talked about. Everything i had set was reset to the factory settings. Sooooooo disappointed!! I'm going to try for an exchange and see how the next one is bc i really love this thing!!*Update*I returned the original and repurchased a new one. This one is working great! 5Keeps resetting to 1200. Defective. We have the older version of the owl which works fine. Bought this one for my daughter and it keeps resetting to 1200 and won t light green which results in my daughter yelling for me at the top of her lungs every morning. I read about this on reviews but took a chance because our other one works fine.**UPDATED** I called Amazon to get the manufacturer info to see if they would send a replacement since I bought this less than one year ago. They gave me the manufacturer contact info (Play Monster) and when I called the company they said they would replace since it is still under warranty - I just had to fill out an online form. Simple enough. Let's hope they fixed whatever problems they had previously!!! 1Do not buy - item doesn t work.Several years ago I purchased an OK to wake up. It was amazing and I loved it, but has since stopped working. I purchased two of this new were model OK to wake owl and neither one of them would work! The first would turn off and on just by you touching it some sort of a faulty wire. The second one won t go to wake mode. even if the time is the same as the wake mode setting. We ve tried 20 times and have gotten it to turn green and go to wake mode. Don t buy - something is wrong with the new version of this product! 1FrustratingWe got this when our previous Mirari OK to Wake device https://www.amazon.com/Mirari-Wake-Alarm-Clock-Night-Light/dp/B00EAHSBV4 broke after too many times being dropped out of the toddler bed. We chose this one given that it looked softer and more "insulated" with fewer plastic parts that could break. I also liked that there was a locking function and that the control buttons were hidden behind velcro. We leave it in the corner of our toddler's bed and he generally does not touch it much at all. He can't really push the button in the middle on his own to generate the music, and while it is cute, it does not really draw his attention. The times when he has picked it up or tried to push the button, something has happened at least half the time where the controls get changed, even when it is locked. Poor guy sits patiently (often with one of us waiting alongside him in the dark) and the clock never turns green because it somehow got reset or zapped out. So I think we have to either leave this in a place outside of his reach or try another strategy. Frustrating.Updated posting (and revised to 1 star): After diligently checking each night that the time was still set correctly and hadn't reset, tonight the mechanism completely fried. This is after using the item for no more than six weeks. Don't waste your money on this piece of junk. 1This possibly saved my marriage...I wanted to wait a month before posting a review, but after a little over a week I am so confident that this is the BEST "Ok to Wake!" product out there that I felt the need to reply right away.I researched several of these light up "ok to wake" type products before picking out this charming little owl. I nearly bought two different ones, but thankfully I found this one instead. I was a bit hesitant to purchase due to it having no reviews, but I figured since it is Prime, I can always return it. I am so grateful I did!My son started waking up at about 6:45am instead of 7:30am a month ago, and would yell for me or my husband to come and get him out of bed. Not only did he wake my husband up, he woke our one year old up as well with his calls. My husband works late, and I was sleeping through the noise, so he was getting robbed of over an hour of sleep every morning. We were fed up and needed to find a solution that a three year old could quickly understand. When the owl arrived the next day after we placed our order, it took less than 5 minutes to set up and explain the "magic owl" to our son. We did a practice run with him to show him how it worked and crossed out fingers that he would stay quiet until the owl glowed green the next morning...IT WORKED!!!! I set my alarm for 5 minutes before the owl was due to "wake" and sure enough, when 7:30 hit, our son started calling for us! We heard nary a peep before the owl's eyes turned green. Hilariously the next day, our son started talking to the owl to try and get him to wake up, so we had to explain that the owl doesn't speak human before he wakes up, and that he wouldn't understand what was being said to him. Other than that, no problems to report whatsoever!Pros:I DID NOT want a nightlight for my son, since he has never used one. Why start a bad a habit? This owl doesn't glow green unless the timer goes off, and glows orange if he is squeezed before wake-up.Our son LOVES him. He bounces out of bed and runs over to his owl to hug him every morning when his eyes are bright green. When he hugs him, a sweet little boy voice comes on saying, "It's ok to wake now!" and starts to play upbeat classical tunes.User friendly/dummy proof programming.Appears to have good battery life so far, and comes with batteries already inside.Cute, kid friendly design.Cons:At $35, the quality could be a lot better. The owl had some loose strings and probably only cost a buck or two to make. However, an extra hour of sleep a night is priceless, so I would've paid $100 for it. If they lowered the price to $25, it's possible every parent would have this for their child. It really is that awesome. So that's that. I will update and edit should anything change in the future. This will be my go to baby shower gift, or first/second birthday present from now on. It's really that good.Update: The owl just ran out of batteries, and they were the generic ones that came with it. I would advise checking the owl about once a week to see if they are still fresh. Just a squeeze to make sure it lights up and it's voice sounds normal. 5Made things worse. Settings lock doesn't work.Horrible. The buttons are located on the back inside the owl. Right where kids arms wrap around. Despite locking the settings, my child has changed the time settings simply by hugging/squeezing the owl. This has happened every sleep time since I got it. This has resulted in the third night she came in my room constantly all night 1am till morning concerned it wasn't going to turn green. And she was right, because the settings changed again. Now it's not even worth the effort of resetting IF I could keep it locked, as she won't trust it to do what it's supposed to do. 1Not as good as the earlier versionOur son loved the old version of the Owl OK to Wake. After about a year and a half, it stopped working, and we needed a replacement, so we had to get this one. We are still using this one, because the concept is so good, though we struggle with it regularly. The problems: 1) The battery compartment is tricky to get open, even after you take out the screw. You need a sharp instrument to pop it open. 2) The button is tougher for our 3-year-old to push to get the music to play. You have to find the exact right spot to press, and it seems to be harder for him to hunt down. 3) The clock on the owl will randomly reset, so in the middle of bedtime, you have to step out, set the time and change all the settings, and then bring it back and hope the kid hasn't run out of the bedroom while you were fooling around with it. That said, it is a great concept, and it does help our kid sleep. We use the low setting for light and music, and have it play for 30 minutes before it shuts off. I just wish the quality was as good as the older version. 2More sleep for all of us = happy family!I'm surprised at all of the negative recent reviews - we bought ours a year and a half ago and we all love it! We haven't had any problems with batteries - I've changed them ONCE in a year in a half. We don't use the music or owl voice, and the lights are set to dim (still VERY bright) and are set to go off automatically in 5 minutes, unless it gets squeezed again. So that must help with battery life.We introduced this owl to our daughter just before she turned 2. It took less than a week for her to understand the difference between the owl glowing yellow vs. green. Since then, we all have gotten more sleep thanks to this little owl! That fact alone should earn the owl 5 stars, but I'm knocking off one star for a couple of minor reasons:1) Not long after the ok-to-wake time (maybe 30-40 minutes), the owl's eyes go back to yellow. On the rare occasions that my daughter sleeps in, it's lame that when she wakes the owl tells her she should go back to sleep when it's obviously fine to wake up.2) To set the owl for nap, you must change the clock settings inside the owl's body. Not convenient. Don't let your kiddo see you doing this or they'll soon start opening the owl and messing with the owl's clock buttons.Don't most little ones sleep on a pretty consistent 24 hour schedule? The minor complaints could be resolved by changing the clock to simply glow yellow during sleep times and be green during awake times.Overall, we LOVE this owl. Having my daughter quiet until 7am each day is wonderful!! I would recommend it without hesitation. 4Extra security for transition to a big kid bed!My 2 year old started climbing out of her crib, so I switched her to a toddler bed. For 3 nights straight she was returned to bed 40+ times per night. I was desperate. I ordered the OK to Wake! Owl after the 2nd night. What a huge difference this made! My toddler stayed in bed for most of the night! Only 3 quiet returns to sleep and a little coaching on giving the owl a hug if she needs some extra light or security, after only 3 days, we have our wake ups down to one and we have our naps back. Great product if you're looking for a special transitional object to get your little one to stay in bed through the night! Highly recommend! 5Great concept, bad designSo I actually do love their product. My daughter took to it and thought it was fun. But- after about a month we had to change the batteries. No big deal. Then a week later we had to change them again. I actually thought I had put used batteries in it or something. But after we changed them with new batteries and it died again within a few days I was done. But the return window has closed so all I ve got is this review! I tried the reset button but the owl just makes some sad noises and dies again. It s hard when this is a tool to teach consistency for kids sleeping and it doesn t function. My sweet girl was in bed waiting for her owl to turn green on multiple mornings and he never did. Super confusing for a 3 year old! Disappointed. 1
