Customer Reviews

Awesome Set!!!!!!!!!My son asked for this game by name. He lost three teeth in one week and this is what he wanted the tooth airy to bring. I have to say the colors are bright and the amount of things you can build with this kit are amazing. I'd give it and all toys like it a full five stars if they had better locking systems, because there is nothing kids and parents hate more than snapping stuff together and having it fall out. I haven't had one marble course that didn't do that. However, since it's 2017 I'm still docking a star over it. Someone must make the interlocking pieces fit together more easily and revolutionize the game and subtract the anger fits from it. This is a super fun educational game that teaches basic engineering ideas and can be quite complex or simple. Hours of fun awaits for the kids that love to build. It's fun to build and fun to watch!!!!! Do recommend for parents with patience. 4Awesome Fun!Love this set! A 3yo relative received a smaller 55 piece set recently and I felt like it needed more, so I came online and bought this 103 piece that that also included the 19 piece add on set, so it's really 122 piece set plus the marbles. In the meantime another relative came and "borrowed" the 55 piece set, but that turns out ok, because while the 55 piece set comes up short when trying to make a cool marble run, this 122 piece set does not. It really has everything to make multiple cool and most importantly STABLE marble runs. This set also has clear tracks and chutes, which really does make it more fun to see marbles dropping through. There is only one piece that I found kind of useless and that's the little yellow claw that fits over the cool mesmerizing red bowl. The yellow claw does not fit properly on the red bowl and comes loose making your marble run unstable, but it's the only piece that I found unusable everything else contributes to a great marble run. So is it going to teach your child about engineering? Probably not because the adults will be playing with it! 5He really loves it!!Purchased this for my son who has autism and obsesses over the marble runs. This set has several pieces none of his others have. He is absolutely thrilled with it and incorporated it into his collection. 5My 2 year old s dream come trueMy son is a huge Marblelympics fan, so we decided to get this as a fun Easter present.ProsMost pieces mate well for a sturdy structure (some are a little hard to put together, some a little easy)Some pieces are transparentLightweight and compact storageFun for whole familyConsMarbles that came with it aren t all that colorful (if you care about that)Feet pieces could be biggerThis is a great first marble run. I d like to see some more creative pieces, or at least more variety. For example there are no plinko pieces or loop-de-loops, but there are 2 funnels pieces and 1 jump piece. There are two fork pieces as well, but it would be nice if there was at least one more of those. The spinner pieces seem fine. They can get stuck, but are usually fine if you reinstall them. The pieces are pretty tough, but could probably break with excessive force. However, I wouldn t mind just buying more pieces to replace them. 5Can't say enough good things about it!I researched marble runs way more than I'd like to confess. This one finally became the clear choice after I read many reviews of other, similar toys talking about plastic pieces that don't properly fit together, parts that break, structures being too wobbly to play with, and even crappy plastic marbles that are too lightweight to roll right.I'm thrilled that I ended up choosing this kit by Mindware. It is SO GOOD. The pieces are great -- sturdy, good-fitting, and multitudinous. Our family has spent hours with this toy in the last two weeks! You get a big bag of lovely, heavy glass marboes in lots of colors, too. I can't imagine needing any more pieces than this comes with, and it will take us a long time to lose 20 marbles! Our family loved that it didn't come with instructions. Surely this was a purposeful choice by Mindware. Instructions are truly not needed... just start building, and learn in the process. But, we're the family that throws away the Lego instructions. We're planning to see what other stuff this company makes. The quality and design of our marble run is so much better than your typical toy company product. 5Fun, but a bit flimsy during the building processI got this as a Christmas gift for my 4-year-old son. The concept is extremely cool, and we ve had lots of fun playing with it! This toy is great for teaching troubleshooting, planning, and cause and effect concepts. My only complaint is that it often falls apart during the building process due to instability and balance issues (part of the learning process though). It's really best to try to plan a sturdy foundation and build from the bottom up. Because it falls apart a bit more readily than I'd like, it can be a bit frustrating to build, especially for a young child. However, there are no problems with sending the marbles down or racing them to see whose reaches the bottom first! Tons of fun! 4Very happy with MindWare's Marble Run product! After my 3 1/2 year old son experienced a marble-run toy during a preschool class, I decided to get him a toy/set of his own to play with at home. I looked up the companies and products for different types of marble runs, and spent a lot of time examining the various types of toy/set available, the different companies, the prices, the pros/cons of different sets and features, and so on.I finally selected this 103-piece set from MindWare. It was a toss-up between this and a couple of other sets offered by other companies, but I decided to spend just a little bit of extra money for what looked like a better-quality product. (Not a lot more money, but a little.) I am very glad I chose MindWare's set because it has turned out to be a very high-quality toy that my son loves to play with over and over again. Some of the things we like about the MindWare 103-Piece Set are the fact that the pieces fit well together, not too tight or loose, and this set has enough "base" pieces (legs to build on top of) that we never seem to run out of pieces before the tower gets as high as we want it to. Also, compared to other sets we looked at, this Marble Run has a lot of the fancier, more fun types of pieces -- S curves, sloping pieces with spinners, and the best piece of all, the slow rotating plate piece -- where the marbles end up going around several times before finally falling down the "drain."There's also a 3-point-connector piece which is very useful for branching two starting points of the Marble Run. The 103-piece set has enough pieces that it gives us the freedom to build very elaborate runs where we can each start at a different location and then have our marbles "race" down to the bottom. The 20 marbles supplied are more than enough to keep the flow of things going. I took a plastic oil funnel (that I wasn't using for my car), cut the bottom a bit, and made it so my son can dump all 20 marbles at once, for a truly noise and spectacular Marble Run event.I must confess, I never even knew about Marble Run toys before. I grew up with Lego, Lincoln Logs, Tinkertoys, Hot Wheels, etc. Marble Runs are relatively new to me. But they have a cause-and-effect element that is especially satisfying for the young (and old) builder. Not only do you get to build a cool-looking tower, but you also get to make something happen with it -- something visual, and with a lot of noise as well.I know we're going to get a lot of mileage out of this toy. As far as I can tell, the pieces are durable (nothing has broken yet, anyway) and the entire MindWare 103-piece Set is well thought out in terms of giving you enough to work with that you can build something substantial and still have a few pieces left over.If I do have one complaint, it's that the slow-circling plate piece has a yellow, three-legged attachment that allows you to build directly over the hole or "drain" of the circling plate piece, but this three-legged attachment doesn't stay connected very well at the three joints at the edge of the plate. It's a little frustrating, but it's a minor problem and easy to work around. One other comment about MindWare and this Marble Run. I had a small concern after receiving the package in the mail, because I wasn't sure if all the 103 pieces were included (the box doesn't come with much documentation, since it's a fairly self-explanatory toy). I contacted MindWare's customer service via email. They were very prompt and courteous, and they demonstrated that they stand by their product and are very active in making sure customers are happy. I consider customer service to be a very important aspect of any purchase, and when a company like MindWare is on top of their customer service, it makes me feel very confident and happy about my purchase. I can say without reservation that I would buy from them again (probably soon, as they have some Marble Run expansion specialty pieces that look like fun), and I definitely recommend them to anybody who is considering buying a Marble Run and isn't sure which company to buy from.In summary, I am very happy with this product! It's loads of fun, high-quality, thoughtfully presented, and the company has top-notch customer service. 5Excellent ToyCan be very sturdy. You can build large structures that stand up to hours of play and can even be moved without necessarily breaking. (Although the designs are up to you, and some young engineers prefer to build super-high towers without many supports on the floor, so they can fall over, but that's a good learning experience with any building toy.)The design, construction, and engineering aspects of this set are engaging and fun: You can include switch parts that route every-other-marble into alternate routes, spinners that get turned by the marbles, a jump that throws a marble towards a catcher, and basins where marbles roll around and around before falling down the center. But most-of-all, kids love having a 'marble party' and trying to keep marbles moving through the courses continuously, rushing to scoop up the ones that have fallen to a bin at the bottom and drop them in the top openings again to keep the action going. This is a huge hit with my 7-year-old daughter and her friends. 5My 4-year-old son's favorite gift this ChristmasI purchased this for my 4-year-old son for Christmas, and it was his favorite present from Santa. I also purchased the expansion pack from MindWare for a few more dollars. It adds a few parts you can't get in the regular set, and I think it's worth it. Compared to many other marble runs on the market, this one is made of stronger and sturdier plastic. The pieces fit together well and are sturdy. Unlike other reviewers who mentioned being upset by this set having no instructions, my son and I enjoyed using our imaginations. It teaches him trial and error and the basics of physics. My teenage sons also enjoy helping him build. One minor quibble: It only comes with two marble returns/marble collectors. I think there should be at least three if not four. That way, you can send the marbles on more runs/paths without them backing up or getting stuck. Other than that, we love it. Highly recommended.Pros:High quality and durable; sturdy plasticPieces fit together wellFunCons:Needs more marble return collectors; 2 isn't enough 5The BEST Marble Run For Your MoneyThis review is for the Mindware Mega MarbleRun.I purchased this MarbleRun for my 3 year old son, but it is often used by everyone in my house- ages 3, 10, 13 and 40.Out of the several brands we've tried of marble runs, this set has been our favorite- giving us the best quality with a reasonable price point. The Mindware Mega MarbleRun is a large and colorful set with various attachments which allow for endless possibilities of configurations (see included image for what's included). All of the pieces fit together snugly which prevent the accidental tumbles that occur with flimsy sets. Although the ideal place to use this is on a hard flat surface, it does work quite well on carpet. This marble run uses standard size marbles (also included with purchase). The pictures that Mindware have used showcasing this item- specifically the size and vibrancy- is very accurate. You get exactly what is shown (which, as we all know, isn't always the case). This particular set comes with an alpine slope which causes the marbles to fly off the slope and land in a chute that is set up nearby. Once you get the correct height and width set up between the slope and the chute, it performs with amazing accuracy. The slope seems to be a favorite of everyone who uses it. Please see included image to view the alpine slope in action. My 3 year old is not able to assemble the marble run himself, but kids 6+ seem to have no issues assembling this independently. The nice part about how sturdy it is and how snugly the pieces fit together is that I can assemble a marble run for the kids and it holds together well thought hours of playing. I can build one large marble run and have it last for days worth of play without having to worry about it falling apart. Our previous marble run was so flimsy, I found myself building and rebuilding several times a day.TIP: The box it comes in is sturdy and suitable for storage, however- I recommend getting a container to store it in. I find that the kids have a hard time getting the pieces in the box and getting the lid shut for storage. I purchased a plastic container with a snap on lid (please see included image) which makes it easier for clean up time, as well as makes it easier to find the pieces you want without dumping everything out. 5
