Very fun game to play with friends and family alikeVery fun game to play with friends and family alike. You pick your main plainswalker (hero/summoner), and summon in supporting troops as you travel along the gaming board. There are scenarios to play or you can set up the field for a heads up fight. There are review videos on YouTube that can give a better description than I will be able to give in this writing, but I personally can tell you that 5 stars isnt nearly enough for how fun this game has been. 5Finally, MTG Arena has some add-onsQuick thoughts:I enjoy the Awesome new hero units. More options for army/deck building. Eldrazi challenges.I'm not 100% sold on pricing. Should be lower then base but whatever. I'd say this is a necessary purchase to improve the base game but at the average $20 price tag and release of a new stand alone expansion (MTG arena of the planeswalkers: shadows over Innistrad) it's tough to decide it's priority over other add ons.VERDICT: BUY IT 4Great first ExpansionPurchased and received recently. It is a great expansion to the base game Magic: The Gathering Arena of the Planeswalkers Game (you will need this base game to have this expansion be of any real value.) Based off the newest Magic the Gathering block of Battle for Zendikar. The timing is great as alot of the units/planeswalkers are currently in Magic standard and widely used.Anyone familiar with the beloved Heroscape will be able to jump right in and play this game. There are a few differences, but not too many. For the expansion itself, the miniatures are great! If you are ok with them not being painted that is (only the planeswalkers are painted). It includes new units for each color (green, while, black, blue, and red). It even includes two Eldrazi units that can be used by any planeswalker!A great idea to include the multi-player scenario where it is either 2/3 planeswalkers vs. 1 Eldrazi. A great concept to have it both be usable by planeswalkers and a standalone army. I am exited with this first expansion and look forwards to future releases and will be sure to purchase them.My only negative is that 5 of the minifigures have to be put together. The large Eldrazi has an arm detached, the 3 small Eldrazi scions have to be attached to their baseplates, and the white hero has to be attached to his backpack kite. Once you connect them, they stay together (however mine are still new, so time will tell). But they do not fit back into their packaging once you do this. However, this is a small thing if you don't care about storing them in the original packaging.Highly recommended if you enjoy the base game, Heroscape, table-top miniature games, magic the gathering, or strategy games in general. 5This was a little disappointing especially riding on my expectations ...This was a little disappointing especially riding on my expectations following the purchase of the Base set that contained 35 figures, and 6 large inter-locking tiles. This set only contains 15 figures and a few extra cards. over all if you can get this as part of a combo with another item its an ok addition, but seriously lacking in content as there are only 2 extra 'hero' playable figures, and a few monsters and no map tiles. 3Doesn't Really WorkI'm very disappointed with Wizards of the Coast with this product. Or perhaps not WoC but the seller, but here are my complaints:I had the impression this was an extension, add-on, to the original game. No, it isn't, it provides replacements and alternatives. You can't have two players choose the new red character and the old red, there aren't enough spell cards. Likewise, if you want to play the new Kiora character who uses green and blue spells, you can't do that if the two players you're playing with want to play the original green and blue characters, there aren't enough spell cards. This is why I never played Magic the Gathering, it was a money pit. With Dungeons and Dragons, buying books helps improve your play style, but aren't necessary to play the game well, I think I'll stick with that game.Overall rating of Original PlanesWalker Arena Game- simple, fun game for old schoolers and newbies alikeOverall rating of this expansion pack: LAME 3It s Fine, but not WOW The game box was a bit smashed, so that was disappointing. It s nice to have a few more spell cards, and the army and planes walker cards that you get are really cool. However, I think the set could be improved by including at least a few more pieces of terrain. It s also mildly annoying that the new red squad is opaque and not translucent like Chandra s squad in the original set.I did buy some Heroscape terrain, and that REALLY makes the game versatile and even more fun 4We LOVES itMy husband, brother and I love this game. We will stay up late into the night playing it. Has caused many heated debates and hissy fits in the wee hours of the night. We had never played a game like this before. Previous to this we had only played monopoly when we were kids. So from a board game novice standpoint, this game was easy to figure out and easy to play. We were all versed in playing Magic on our IPAD so we did have some background knowledge on how the game worked. I do believe that the game would have been harder to figure out if we didn't have that background. I would however still recommend it. Honestly, it is not that hard to figure out. Instructions are very short and to the point. Just play it ok. You will like it. 5A review for the miniatures within...I purchased this expansion set while on sale or clearance, which is when I suggest you do. For 5-6 dollars the miniatures within are more than worth the buy.The one huge or gargantuan miniature alone is worth the $6, but it comes with various other miniatures ranging from goblins, far-realm beasts, elves, etc. These must all be re-based for standard D&D play, but they take primer well and paint easily.5 stars for the price and the durable miniatures within. Don't expect high detail on these soft plastic miniatures, but the huge miniature doesn't suffer from this issue. 4I highly recommendMTG AotP is a great game. It would be an amazing game if Hasbro would continue to support it with more content, terrain, armies..At the current prices, you can get all three releases for less than the original price of the first. If you snag about $25-$40 of additional Heroscape terrain off Ebay, it changes the game into something you can play for years and years.Even if there is never another release for this game, it is still easily worth it to buy all three now. I've been thinking about getting another full set of the three releases to add to the first. This game has the potential to be massively expanded and customized. Your imagination is the boundary. 5and a few friends have already had hours of fun playing this gameI bought all 3 that were out in July 2017... My twin 13 year old boys, myself, my brother, and a few friends have already had hours of fun playing this game. You can pick out your hero pair him/hr up with miniature army and let the game begin. You can add/subtract much of the game content to make it as quick/fun/complex/strategic as you desire. There are quite a few good rule suggestions and alternative games like co-op, teams, etc. that come at a surprisingly easy pace to learn... Highly recommend this game! 5
