Customer Reviews

Oh how I love this game! For the Sci-Fi lover in your lifeI love the Fluxx series so much, and while I may play some of the other versions more often (I'll explain why at the end of this review), this and Monty Python Fluxx are my two absolute favorites!Fluxx is the perfect go-to game if you want something fast-paced, fun and easy to learn. Because the explanation and basic rules of the game are so simple, I've found that it's equally fun for brand-new players as for those who've played it before. Everything is explained on each card, so you can give very minimal instructions to new players and they'll pick it up easily. We usually use this as a warm-up game on game nights with friends and family, before moving on to more strategy-based games.Since I mentioned strategy, I will give you one word of caution: this is not a game for those who are looking for something with elaborate strategy and get frustrated when the plan they've been working on for several rounds either doesn't work out or backfires. The nature of the game is to be ever-changing, so you have to be willing to go with the flow. You can have some strategy, of course, but you have to be willing to see it blow up in front of you in seconds--and then laugh about it!A word about this version of the game: in my opinion, this particular version is best played when you're playing with fans of Sci Fi. This version is based around references to popular sci-fi film and television series (Star Wars, Star Trek, Dr. Who, etc.), and really I think it's funniest when you understand the references. It is playable with people who don't know their Sci Fi, but I don't think it's as much fun for them. Also, because of the special powers of some cards in the game it is a slightly more complex version of Fluxx than others--I wouldn't start anyone out with this unless they're playing with others that have played it before. 5Strategy, fast play, fun for ages 6 through adultPerfect gift for my brother-in-law. He is a big Star Wars fan and loves games. If you are unfamiliar with Fluxx, it is a card game for 2 or more players. The rules are ever changing and can even be reset. There is a small amount of luck involved but mostly you can play your cards strategically to win. My son has Asperger s. He was introduced to this game by a counselor to help him cope with transition/changes. He started playing at age 6. He is now 12 and owns 4 variations of the game Fluxx. 5Good, clean, chaotic, bizarre, fluid, card-slinging fun.Fluxx is fun. I picked this particular version because it seemed like the one that would appeal to my group of friends more than any of the others. We have played a couple of times, but that's about it. The novelty wore off pretty quickly and we haven't really touched it since.I think this game might come out a few times a year from here on out, but it seems like you need several dedicated players all ready for it at the same time. You can't just bust it out at a party and be like "Whoo! Who wants to play some FLUXX?!" because then everyone around will sort of stare at you awkwardly until one guy comes up and says "Not now, man; we're trying to conduct a bris!" and then you'll look stupid because you're not even Jewish don't actually know anyone at this party. What I'm trying to say is that I enjoy the IDEA of Fluxx a little better than I enjoy the actual game. It's chaotic, and difficult to keep track of what's going on at any given time. I understand that's supposed to be part of the appeal of the game, but unless everyone has played the game before, you end up having to teach the game to a new person every single game, which ends up slowing everyone down and sapping a lot of the fun.Bottom line, if you have friends who are looking for a game you can all play repeatedly and is different every single time, you can do way worse than Fluxx. But if you're looking for a casual party game, this might not be a great match for you. 4Best version of Fluxx yetIf you're debating which version of Fluxx to buy- choose this one :) My husband and I own zombie, Martian, Monty python, pirate, wizard of oz, and Firefly Fluxx and this is our favorite version. It has the purple surprise cards that the earlier Fluxx version don't have, and some of the keepers have abilities that make the game more interesting (like taking a random card from a player each turn or being able to "fix" malfunctions or brain parasites on your other keepers). I also like the nod to Star Trek and the sci-fi genre- it adds an extra element of fun. Hope you enjoy it too! 5Huge Fan of Fluxx, not my favorite set.A friend of mine introduced me to the wonder of Fluxx. And I really loved it. The game's ever changing rules definitely make each play completely different. I played firefly Fluxx and enjoyed it. Star Fluxx tries it's best to touch upon many different franchises while not having the copyright rights to them. Now that's not he problem, but after playing a newer version of Fluxx, playing an older version I'm not used to the unpolished look to the cards, and there seems to be less rules and more goals and keeper cards that add more complexity over the game. Not my favorite deck but I'm still glad I own it. 3Its a Great Introduction to the Fluxx Series ^_^I played this game with my cousins last year, and fell in love with it. So I bought me a deck of my own. At first the game can be a little confusing and intimidating, but once you learn the rules, the game can be quite fun, and addicting. It definitely fuels competition between friends lol. A great addition to this game, is the use of surprise cards, gives the game a edge and keeps players on their toes. Just because you think you will win, doesn't mean you will (wink). Compared to the other Fluxx games I've played, in my opinion Star Fluxx is the best, the game hits the sweet spot between intense and easy going. One game you could have a long intense show down, or a casual easy going game. Also the Makers of the Game are great. When I lost one of my cards, they were able to send me one free in the mail. They're really caring for their players.PS Finally got that New Model for my Computer ^_-- 5Beam me upStar Fluxx is an entertaining game in which each player starts with 3 cards, and from there the game just keeps changing. However, Star Fluxx is easy to learn, since each card clearly explains the changes to the game. Star Fluxx begins with just a couple of very simple rules (take a card play a card), but new rules are added to the basic rule, and they take effect immediately. Thus, every game of Fluxx is always different from the previous one.To win, a player must meet a goal's conditions (s/he wins even if it is someone else's turn). To play a goal, a player places it up in the center of the table discarding any previous goals. Thus, you can be on your way to a win one minute, and light years away from winning a minute later. Most goals require keepers to win, and players must play them in order to win, but by doing so you will put keepers at risk, others can take them and creepers (cards that usually prevent you from winning) can be attached to them.In addition, to the above cards, players can play surprise and action cards, that change the game and might have different outcome if played during your turn, or during someone else's turn.Over all Fluxx is a great game for 2-6+ players, it takes about 30 minutes, and in my opinion plays better with a large group. 5ComplexBeing a Fluxx player for several years, and a complete sci fi geek, I leapt on this when it came out. It is great fun, but NOT a good way to introduce new players to Fluxx. There is a substantial level of complexity added by the fact that many Keepers have additional powers, and there are more Creepers. This makes the games longer and requires more focus & concentration. Like all Fluxx games, tho, once you get past the learning curve, it's completely addictive. To introduce new players, I remove all the creepers and the goals & actions involving creepers, but even then, you tend to end up with lots of rules and cards in play. if you are looking for a first Fluxx game, I recommend Pirate Fluxx (or, perhaps the standard Fluxx game. I don't know if they've added more complexity to Fluxx 4.0), because Star Fluxx really requires at least one player with experience, who must keep track of all the rules & possibilities until the rest of the players come up to speed.Nonetheless, this is a terrific game & a welcome addition to the Fluxx family. 4Great quick card game*Update*2.5 years later, this game is not played as often as the Batman version of the same game (similar but very different). While I enjoy this version, I'd rather play the Batman version.---This game is a lot of fun. I have to admit that I didn't expect that, but was I pleasantly surprised and excited to be wrong. The game works best when everyone understands how to play, as it can be a bit slow when there is someone new to the game. This makes sense though, as the rules of the game are always in "flux" (aptly named game). The basis rules are:Draw a card, play a card. That's it. Anyone can do that.Eventually, other cards will get played that will add complexity and fun to the game. Some examples may be rules that change how many cards are drawn or must be played each hand. Others let you steal or switch cards with other players. Some provide goals. Without a goal, there is not a way to win the game. Don't get too excited about any particular goal that is played, as they can change from player to player. Don't worry, you can get them back. The way to win is so simple: Have the cards the goal card says you need to win in play at the same time.Of course it doesn't stay so simple. Other players change the goal in defense or offense based on what they/you have in play.Be ready for the "surprise" cards which can be played at any moment, even out of turn. These can do things like cancel an action or a new rule or cancel a goal (thus preventing victory for another player). It's a lot of fun, I highly recommend you try Fluxx in it's several iterations which are each different. 5This is FLUXX on steroids!! (Asteroids)I would not recommend this for first time FLUXX players. I've experienced difficulty explaining the rules to players who are new to FLUXX. If you know the basics and enjoy additional content like Creepers (cards that, while on the table in front of you, prevent you from winning *most* goals) you are in for a treat.Playing this game 100% according to the rules requires more effort even for regular FLUXX players. For example, one of the keepers is a Cute Fuzzy Alien Creature that requires being passed on to the next player at the end of each turn. If you think that sounds like a hassle, this game might not be ideal for you. If you find it engaging and fun, you'll enjoy it! 5
