Customer Reviews

Not great - but we didnt need something great.works fine - nice way to keep my kid moving in the morning.by playing "beat the clock"I have to admit that I too see it as sort of counter intuitive - the way the green ring sets the "whole time" (before the light goes red) and the yellow band sets the time that you want the light to stay green. But of you read the directions it does as its supposed to and other reviews shouldn't mark it so badly for that.It would be nice if it had a pause, or some way to know how much time is left, or if it allowed increments less than 5.But what we needed was a way to remind the kid "this is when they should be getting dressed", of brushing their teeth, or whatever. So, if they can get dressed in 5 minutes, and we set the green band for 10 minutes and the yellow for 5. Then it seems one of two things tend to happen:- - - Either she will get moving right away, trying to be ready before the thing turns yellow - and be proud of her self when she does that.OR- - - - During the first 5 minutes she can get as distracted as she wants - or just lie in bed - whatever. Then the thing beeps and turns yellow, and thats when getting dressed really starts happening without anyone having to yell a reminder, or go check on things. Also, I think just seeing the dome lite up, either yellow or green - is a reminder that there was something thats supposed to be done soon, and the time to do it is running out.. - and that reminder can be there in the room, without anyone having to yell one down the hall, or go check on things. 4Great timer, theough stopped working after 6 weeks, could be my fault. It's a great timer. However it stopped working at 6 weeks. The red light stayed on only. but I suspect that this isn't common. The quality seemed good, could have just been one of my kids...Some reviewers have said it's confusing. Well it doesn't have instructions, but once you figure it out then it's quite smart.1. You set the Green band on the length of time you're timing, from 5 - 120 minutes2. You set the Yellow band at the warning time when you'd like the yellow light to come on to warn you when your time is nearly over, from 0-115 minutesFor instance, I use it for my kids screen time. I set the (green) timer for 20 minutes. The I set the yellow timer for 15 minutes at which time the Yellow light replaces the Green light, so the kids are left with a 5 minute window to finish up their games.3. When the time is up, the Red light will turn on and a alarm sound will go off (which you can turn up or down or off).I'll be buying another. Uses 3 AAA batteries. 4It flashes yellow and green.A bit confusing for the warning time. We wanted total time 30 mins and a 5 minute warning before time is done. So, following the instructions, we set green dial for 30 and yellow for 5. It ended up that the warning time went off 5 mins after we hit start (25 mins of yellow). We learned the yellow ring must be set like a countdown itself: "I want the warning to come on in 25 mins so that my kids know there is 5 mins left." Thus, green set at 30, yellow at 25 in order to allow a 5 min warning. The light flashes. The green is solid on but when it turns yellow, the light flashes. The red light also flashes. Nowhere in the description does it say it flashes. That is no good for us as its annoying. The sound bell is super quiet. It would only work for a quiet classroom for testing or very quiet self work. We used it to time computer play time which is too loud to hear the bell.Back it goes as the flashing is annoying. 2*its not cheap quality and not complicated to use*First, Its simple to use imo - it has two circular bands which you can twist to set timer, the upper band is for the total time of tracking say, T (e.g 20 minutes), and lower band is the time remaining when you want the warning alarm/siren to start sound, say e.g you set the lower band to 5 minutes. So you will get a warning sounds (like a quick horn) at, T - 5 = 15 minutes later. That isn t so hard , is it ? After T = 20 minutes you get another sounds/siren to indicate time off. It starts to blink with yellow light after warning time, i.e at T = 15 minutes in this example. The light is green when you set the alarm, and its red before you start the timer ( just turned on mode but not in use). You can adjust the sound volume. Also want to mentioned it takes 3 small batteries ( AAA I think, just confirm)My use case - Its not only for kids, I am an adult and I am using it everyday, I will mention my example how it is helping break one of my bad habits. So I used to spend a lot of time in restroom in morning, mostly browsing quora, Facebook and other news apps while doing big job and then pondering what I read during shower, wasting almost an hour and eventually missing my trains and not be in office at time I wanted to be. I deleted bunch of apps like Facebook which helped for a while but eventually I found something else to waste time. I carried phone with me as an excuse to be aware of time, check my schedule for the day etc. I tried using phone timers, alarms etc none of which actually worked because none had a way to warm me. So solution really was to not carry my phone with me but still get my time tracked and something with a warning so I can be time bound and rush up when warning sounds. I looked for a solution and luckily I found this. Now I don t take my phone with me, just this mini tracker, set it to 20 mins with a 10 minutes warning and to my surprise I am all ready before 20 mins most of the times lately and able to shut it off before the final warning kicks in (after 20 minutes). The only concern some might have is this that the minimum unit of time is 5 minutes and you can't be more granular than that. This company has some more digital time tracker products which you can set at minutes/seconds level but I really wanted something very simple to not distract myself and it really fits my use case.As some of reviewers mentioned it to be a cheap quality, its actually not for the price.Overall I am very happy with this product and will highly recommend it. I have just started to use it so will update how it turns out in long run in terms of product lifecycle. 4But we were all disappointed. It has a number of design flaws but ...When we first received it my son was very excited and eager to try it. But we were all disappointed. It has a number of design flaws but here's the biggest one: you don't see the passage of time in any way. It doesn't count down or visualize the time or move the dial or do ANYTHING resembling a clock or a timer. It does ring at the end and turn red. And you can set it to change yellow as a warning at the time of your choosing (eg 10-minute warning or 5-minute warning) but unfortunately you have no way of knowing how much time has lapsed or how much time remains until it beeps that there is no time left. Huge oversight. We are returning it. Wouldn't recommend it. 2I haven't been good about writing reviews even though I live and die ...I haven't been good about writing reviews even though I live and die by them. But I felt compelled to write this since I bought this on a lightning deal ignoring all the bad reviews and just hoping they were flukes. Well, I was really excited to get this since my daughter is very curious about time and having "5 more minutes" to do something. First of all, the timer is not intuitive to set. I understood this since I read all the reviews prior to buying but here's a recap. The Green dial is the TOTAL time you want the timer set for and the yellow is the TOTAL REMAINING time you want the timer light to be yellow. EX: You want a 30 minute timer and the yellow to go off when there's 5 minutes left. Set the green to 30 and the yellow to 5. Now that that's out of the way, it worked for a whole day and then the yellow wouldn't light up anymore. Knowing Amazon is amazing, I sent it back and got a replacement. Lo and behold, the same thing happened to the second one. It would work great for one day and stop working the next. No explanation. No rhyme or reason. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a good alternative so I returned this for the second time and I'm in the market for another timer. One that works on the second day. 1Love this Timer!I purchased this timer for my son and I to use to remind us when it was time for him to use the potty. After using it, I feel like I will add it to my classroom too. The light on top served as a great visual for those who can't read yet. Red means stop and green means go. If the light changing wasn't clue enough for us the beeping was the attention-getter. Loud but not loud enough to scare you. The timer is extremely easy to use and any child five and up could easily use it. Learning Resources is one of my favorite brands and this item did not disappoint. The only thing I didn't like, was that we had to restart it every time rather than it beginning again as soon as the alarm was turned off. I wish there was a button to make it repeat to save on time. 5Received 2 defective units - poor qualityHuge disappointment. Poor quality, and bad overall design.Let's start with poor quality: the first Time Tracker we received stop telling proper time within 2 weeks - so I sent it back in exchange for a new one, hoping that it was just a fluke. The second one worked, albeit with an audible rattle of something loose inside, but only long enough to get us just outside of the return policy window. Now it's broken, this time it just won't turn on, and I'm stuck with it. SO IRRITATED! Next time I won't give things a second try. Now, let's cover the overall bad design: the way the time is intended to be used is with 3 colors, but only 2 time settings. So you choose you're overall time (let's say 30 minutes), and then you choose when you want the timer to turn yellow (let's say in 15 minutes) - and then the assumption is that it will turn red when time is up. Didn't seem like all that bad an idea until I tried putting it into practice. Right away the kids seemed confused when the timer turned red when I set it to turn yellow at 15 minutes - 15 minutes was just too long. They were having a hard time predicting when the light would go red, most likely because they forgot all about it. And then when it does turn red - that's it, no more, time is up, and the frustrated yells began. So then I started shortening the time to turn yellow at 5 minutes. Seemed to help the confusion as they knew that red was coming soon when it did turn yellow, but it didn't give the kids much time to finish their work if they had been lagging. I used to have a kitchen timer that flashed red for the last minute and then it would go off. I'd love it if this timer had that ability - a third bracket of time that I can control so that the kids had something more like: 30 minutes total, 15 minutes of green, 10 minutes of yellow (to wrap up if they happen to be lagging), and 5 minutes flashing red to move really fast on any last minute things.Between the 2 defective units in a row, and the disappointing lack of flexibility, I couldn't recommend this product to anyone. Save yourself the money and frustration. 1Tired of being the bad guy??Homework battles? Bath time issues? Then this timer is a Must Have!!! It makes the timer the "bad guy" instead of you and you can't argue with a clock. My son is a notorious procrastinator and has a hard time understanding how long a minute, 5 min 10 min etc. really is, so giving him a warning doesn't help and we don't always have a digital clock nearby. We even tried giving him a watch but it was more of a distraction than help. This timer is the perfect solution.Pro's & Cons'sIt doesn't have a count down timer (which I prefer since many kids get distracted by watching the clock tick down) but uses color changes and a alarm to warn them. In my house green means you've got plenty of time and yellow indicates the half way mark. Definitely read the reviews on how to set the times cause the yellow band is really how long the light will stay green (not how long it will be yellow which would make more sense. The green band is total time. You can also adjust the volume on the warning alarm which is nice if you have kids that are sensitive to loud/sudden sounds. The light is very bright (we've even used the timer as a night light in a pinch). I always take it with me on long car trips to keep track of how long each kid has been playing with a toy/electronic device. I set in one of the cup holders (it fits perfectly!) and they can both easily see what color they have (for those trips I have it turn yellow when there is 5 min left). It has been so positive for my son that even his teacher wants one for her classroom (he's in 1st grade). I am a former middle and high school teacher and plan to use it when I return to the classroom. 5Wouldn't recommend for use with toddlers or children with SPD I was looking for a timer that I could implement with my two toddlers when switching from preferred to non-preferred activities (e.g. from outdoor play time to cleaning up), and also wanted both visual and auditory cues. The Time Tracker Mini looked promising, as it has multiple time settings plus the two different cues.Visual cue: the light works well in dim environments, but completely washes out in outdoor lighting. If you are working on outdoor activities, you would not be able to discern the lighting cue in average daylight, and would completely miss the cue. This timer would be better suited for table-time/home work activities in indoor lighting settings.Auditory cue: the alarms are gentle and non-abrasive, but only alert for 2 seconds. An auditory alert that only engages for 2 seconds is ineffective for most children who are participating in average activities, aside from very quiet table actives such as coloring. Many times, my children do not hear it. It doesn't alert a second time, so if you didn't catch that first auditory cue, you will completely miss the warning.Timing increments: this timer does not have an increment smaller than 5 minutes. Anyone with toddlers or children with sensory processing disorders knows that sometimes you need a timer that goes for just 30 seconds or a minute, and this timer's smallest time increment is 5 minutes. In addition, the smallest time increment for a warning alarm is 5 minutes, so anything 5 minutes and under doesn't benefit from a visual or auditory warning cue. Thus, timing increments this large would again be better suited for an older child or adult working on long table-time/home work activities.Long and short, I wouldn't recommend this timer for anyone hoping to work on daily tasks/skills with toddlers and/or children with sensory processing disorders. The cues are too easily missed depending on the activity and the lighting, and end up being more frustrating in the long run for both caregiver and child. I think this would be an OK timer for an older child or adult working on quiet table activities. 2
