Customer Reviews

Great for the budding scientistGot this kit for my 6 year old niece who recently decided that she was "interested in science". This plus a child-sized white lab coat, and she was in seventh heaven.A cute little set of laboratory items that include: safety goggles; magnifying glass; flask; beaker; 2 short test tubes in a rack; one tall test tube in a rack; eyedropper; tweezers; all items are plastic, and the test tubes have lids. The pieces are colorful and functional. There are also 10 index cards with various experiments to do.The reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is that the actual "chemicals" needed for the experiments are not supplied. These are mostly common household items or easily obtained at a supermarket, but I remember the frustration I had as a child upon getting a gift that I couldn't use until I could get mom to go to the store and get the rest of the stuff needed. I solved that problem by contacting the maker, and then gave me a list of the materials required, and I put together a little package of "supplies" that I sent along with the lab kit. These include things like: lemon juice; vinegar; cooking oil; baking soda; vanilla extract; perfume; club soda; tarnished pennies; various small items like small stones, toothpicks, and corks; a variety of garden seeds; and dirt.Well, the niece was doubly delighted to receive a second package with the supplies, so maybe it's not a bad idea to keep these things separate, at that.Either way, great toy for a 4-7 year old who want's to do "science", but might not know quite know exactly what that is. 4Hours of fun for my little oneMy 5 year old daughter LOVES this set. I gave her some cheap shaving cream, salt, tiny marshmallows, food coloring, access to water, and sprinkles and covered my kitchen counter in a black garbage bag and she created experiments for hours! Her 7 year old cousin visited recently and I set up the same items for them and they played for hours as well. This set is sturdy, the goggles are realistic and I appreciate the ease of use! 5Fantastic set!I got this for my son for Christmas when he was 4 years old. He is now about to turn 6 and it is still used very frequently for doing "science" both at the bathroom sink and outside. There is always something brewing in those wonderful test tubes with lids! As any good toy is for the younger kids, this science set is super tough. Not a single piece of it has failed or worn down yet.Update: The Erlenmyer flask finally threw in the towel this past weekend, a year after my review, three years after gifting the set. The bottom came loose and now it can't hold liquid, which was a fun surprise event. I am still completely pleased with this set - I can't blame it for a single piece finally biting the dust - this flask has seen very HEAVY usage. When we "do science," we do it daily for weeks on end. If I could purchase the Erlenmeyer flask by itself, I would. It will really be missed. 5Durable materials and easy to follow experimentsI got this for my 3 and 5 year old, and it is perfect. The magnifying glass is particularly sturdy - my 3 year old has thrown it across the room and it landed on the tile floor but did not break. (Usually we try to be more careful, but this happens sometimes - nice to know it is age appropriate in durability!) The experiments are easy to follow for the 5 year old (and 3 year old with help) and use materials I have already - food coloring, celery stick, various food items (float or sink test) as examples. The materials are easy to clean. The box is roomy enough that I can easily pack it all away with room to spare - so I m not spending time fitting each part into a small slot or trying to get it to fit. Exactly what I wanted in a home kit for preschoolers! 5Great science kit!Bought this kit for my 6 yr old daughter who just started kindergarten (home school). I was looking for a fun & easy yet educational science kit so we could do some experiments. She absolutely loves this kit! We spent time learning what each piece of equipment was first, then we did the first experiment which was using primary colors to make secondary colors. Love the experiments which are on large laminated cards. Easy to understand, fun to do, and most everything needed you already have on hand. I definitely recommend this to anyone with a pre-school or kindergarten aged child who wants to have fun while learning science! 5Worth every penny!I bought this for my niece for her 3rd birthday. I was aware that some of the experiments might be a little over her head, but she loves making volcanoes and cleaning pennies. She calls it her potion set and will happily play with it using just water and some salt and baking soda making "potions" by herself for a few hours!I read from the reviews that the set didn't contain the materials for the experiments, so I went to the company's website to look up the project cards and put together a box of those supplies to give along with the set. I bought white vinegar, salt, baking soda, food coloring, vegetable oil, cotton balls, and a big baggie of dirty pennies, this cost about $8I highly recommend this set, it's great if you want to guide the experiments and use together and it's great for hours of imaginary play. 5The best kid's lab set we have found. A great birthday present! We bought this kit for our son who was 7 years old at the time. It is great because the test tubes are large and everything is made of plastic (vs. glass). All of the items in the kit are well made, durable and easy for kids of all ages to use. My son, Tim, has continued to use this set over and over. We did quite a few of the experiments listed on the cards that come with it. Tim has even used the test tubes at the beach to hold living things like crabs, man-o-war, etc. that he finds. The neighbor friends love coming over to make "potions" using this set. It's really good for a very wide range of ages. I imagine that we'll be using it for years to come. It would make a great birthday gift. 5Age appropriate intro to scienceThis set comes with fun and easy experiments that your child will enjoy. The activity cards are large and visually appealing. The equipment is jumbo sized for those hands that are still working on their fine motor skills. My son took his oil and water experiment into his pre k class for show and tell and it was a hit with the kids. The teachers were so impressed and asked all about the science kit. I ended up buying an additional kit for the class. 5Perfect for exploration and budding scientists!I bought this as a birthday present for my 4 year old daughter. I knew she loved pouring things from one cup to another (as evidenced by very frequent spills in my living room...) and this was the perfect outlet for her! I added food coloring to water and she will spend hours 'making chemicals' as she says, pouring, mixing and studying how the color changes every time. She really feels official with all the appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) and special tools.Everything is really durable too. We keep it out on our back deck where the colored water won't stain anything and I can't tell you how many times pieces of it have gone flying off into the backyard with no ill effect. It definitely stands up to a preschooler's abuse! Watching her play with this kit makes this biologist-mom pretty happy! 5Awesome Product ~ Don't Forget to Download 10 Extra Labs for FREEWe're on Summer #2 of using this set. I have to be honest, last summer we only did a handful of experiments. They all worked well, we just didn't have time. (However, since I put them in a plastic tub instead of the box I have found that he likes to take them in the bathtub.) My son is older now (5 years old) and was begging tonight to do "science time." We did the celery experiment - I wish it'd help him like veggies...but this kit doesn't do that; the volcano; and one of the extension activities - silly putty. The putty was amazing to watch, but it turned out slightly crumbly. I may have followed the directions wrong, but my little guy didn't really notice. He just had something to squish around.Don't forget to pick up the extra 10 activities on Learning Resources' website! To access the cards, visit the company's website and view the Primary Science Lab Set.
