Customer Reviews

For mild autistic kiddosI got this for my autistic son, but it's more far along in development than he is. That's not to say it won't be useful for him later - it was just more mature than I expected. My son loves to throw them around the room and watch them fall. So it's a great toy for now!! 4Great starting point.I have read other people's review of this product. These are NOT a curriculum. They are a starting point for discussion with the child. I show the student the card, have them describe the picture to the best of their capabilities, and then go on with the discussion of appropriate behavior. 5This is a wonderful tool. She really likes having the photo in ...My 3 yr old daughter who has autism absolutely loves these cards. We read them maybe five times a day. They are really helping her language. This is a wonderful tool. She really likes having the photo in front of her to help her know what words to say. Highly recommend these 5A touch of an abelist standpoint, but many useful conversation starting imagesThere are many very useful cards in the kit to discuss safety, responsibility and friendship. I found it lacking in hygienic advice, and a bit heavy on school skills, which we won't need. I also found it strange that processing and identifying emotion was ordered nearly last, well after on onslaught of advice on how to make everyone else in the world comfortable. The use of person first language, juxtaposed to the ordering of person last skills teaching is the main issue I have with the product. These cards can be very useful with prescreening and editing by the adult to ensure that abelist veiws don't become the main message. These were written for autistics, but certainly not by autistics and may not be suitable in their current form for all people. There is a card about not placing elbows on the table at mealtimes, however some people may need to do this to steady themselves, and another card stating that covering your ears is always rude, which pays no regard to an autistic persons need to protect their sensory differences. There is also a card that explains how making eye contact can help give you clues about the conversation, which is only true if you are good at multitasking and not so consumed by eye contact that you cannot focus. All in all atleast 80% of the cards are useable with editing of the text presented, and 70% are useable as is. It's It's sturdy product, and the pictures are clear, I only wish that the information and wording could be updated as we learn more about what our utistic children truly need. 3Amazing! Just what I was looking for.I am so happy I found this product. This is great for children who find socialization, rules of etiquette, and behavior challenging. Since they don't understand it and have difficulty learning to observation and experience, these cards come in handy to approach socialization through a different way. It seems like more of an academic approach. Teaching rules the way you would teach other subjects. I can't find any other way to put it. I saw a difference when using these cards. After one short session going over one card, (the shaking hands card) the child surprised me the next day by introducing me to a friend from school and telling me to shake his hand. I am extremely impressed. Not every product is going to work for every child just like one strategy does not work for every child. These cards can be helpful for many but not all. Good luck! 5Tried to present the very essential and precise description as I'd like to be presentedI've tried to present the item as I'd like to be presented. So I download pictures.Extra info - based on one's personal impression.Pictures are big. I suppose because they are meant for kids with ASD. Good for class. Pictures are useful for very young ages. The instructions on the other part - are good and provide immediate insight also for parents by providing the orientation for thought and action. Good both for young children and for parents/specialists who work with different groups. International pictures - no group is dominant. Well balanced representation. What I'd suggest changing. Many pictures present the opposite of what they suggest. You can overcome it by explaining. But I'd let children to connect better to the message by showing the aimed result. Depends on your approach. On some pictures objects look small comparing to people. Since they invite to make certain actions I'd emphesize the aimed action by a bit enlargening the objects or even adding them like a school book where it says do you "homework".Mostly satisfied and like the purchase. 4SERIOUSLY. DON'T BUY.Basically the only good cards in this are the ones showing on the outside....In one of the cards it says rude behaviour with a child covering his ears anybody who knows autism would know that's NOT a sign of rude behavior that something that they honestly have to do because it honestly hurts their ears!!!! totally ridiculous 1The step by step and pictures are helpful for helping your child understand betterI like the friends and play cards. Some of the school cards not to sure what to think of it. Needs a few more helpful ways for good hygiene. Other then that they are good learning cards and hepful for my autistic son. I also like the step by step to explain the picture. That is very helpful. My son loves them. He has been able to make friends. Children learn better by seeing the actions to help their needs. 4Awesome product. As a licensed therapist, I use this in many sessions with my clients on the spectrum...as well as the little ones. Awesome product. 5Really nice and helpful cards! My daughter has two therapist come over. They both loved these cards and use them in conjunction with their plan. She seems to really like them and they seem easy to understand. She has ASD with a language delay on the more severe end of the spectrum. The cards are as big as the box. That is really nice because it makes the picture easy to look at. 5
