Super fun feature rich RC carsThese are pretty great for the price. All sets are compatible with eachother/cars, so you can race a lot of these together (although tournament modes only allows for 4 cars). If using practice mode, you can use as many cars as you want to. The track driving has 3 speed settings. slow is just racing with nearly 100% assistance (allowing for changing lanes). medium is much faster, and you can fly off the track at turns if you don't keep your speed down. You can also use 2 hazards ( in tournament mode... recharged at pit station). High skill level is SUPER fast, and requires a lot of control. all 4 hazards are available.Cars can also be controlled manually at any time, even if racing in track mode, making them regular RC cars when you want them to be. This is an awesome feature that makes these sooooo much more than slot car racers. Wanna just bring your car with you with a controller and drive around your kitchen? Do it. Track optional.IMPORTANT: A non-documented feature (from what I can tell) is Track Calibration. with the controller on and car turned off, hold down the small round button on the upper left of the controller. Then turn on the car. It will enter track calibration mode. It will provide instructions on how to calibrate your car to the center of the track. Being that most of the cars are not calibrated well out of the box, this is a pretty important feature that should be clearly documented. 5Not perfect but works great, lots of fun for ages 5+ This race track actually worked really well. I got it for my nephew who is 7. There are 3 skill levels and he quickly went from beginner to expert. The 3 different skill levels is basically how much assist there is keeping you on the track. With beginner you can't go off the track. With Expert you can go off the track if you are not steering in the corners.This is a great modern version of the old slot car racers and is actually more fun because you can steer the cars. You have to plan your passing and race strategy. You call also shoot oil spills and other road hazards at your opponent which is fun.The track is sheet of thin plastic which work great. Highly recommended for the $65 price I paid. Even up toe $100 would be worth it. 5Great for my kid that has CPThis is fantastic for my son. He has CP and can't slightly pull a trigger. It's all or nothing. He also can't steer RC cars well. These cars have a mode to keep them on the track. My only grip would be the track is massive so it takes time to break down and set up when I need to clean but it's Worth it. 5Fun for ages 4 to DadThis is a great toy set, and very well executed at this price point - everything works surprisingly well. The fact that it comes with controlers and doesn't need a smart phone was what really sold me. I didn't want my kids to have to whip out an ipad or iPhone to play with the racing game. Other toy/tech designers please take note - not everyone wants everything in the entire world to sync to their phone.The pre-set modes are excellent for little kids and really work great. You can customize how much help you want/need keeping the car on the track so very young kids can play without needing constant adult intervention and supervision. I can actually race my 4 year old without having to stop a million times to put his car back on the track. I'm surprised how much the settings actually help me out - when you go straight to RC mode, it's difficult to keep the cars on the track.Saw somone complain about the 'cheap' track, but I would completely disagree. I think it's pretty great and innovative. The pieces of track are a cross between super thick cardstock and a plastic place-mat. They are super light-weight and yet durable and rigid enough to have no issues on thick carpet. I don't know what pepole imagine the track is supposed to be made out of. It's exactly what it looks like. I don't know if a better material exists to create a track that can be easily stored (like a stack of papers), but can maintain needed surfact integrity. The track pieces go together very easily and overlap just right. I can even drive the cars backward and there is not an issue. Even if you hate the track, you can use them as just regular remote control cars.The cars pair to the remote controls perfectly and immediately every time, and have good range. I haven't tested the limits of range, but they worked great from two rooms away.The only thing I would complain about is something that I actually read in another review - the wheels on the cars could be better designed/constructed. I too have had the 'hubcaps' fall off quite easily. It hasn't caused the rubber to come off the wheels, but I can see that the rubber isn't as secure as I would like. After a few races the rubber can look like it's not quite in the right place and I'll just adjust the rubber by hand. It hasn't caused any real issues yet, but I can see how it may cause a problem at some point. Again, so far we can race with no problems even if a hubcap comes off.Bottom Line: This is GREAT for the money and is EXCELLENT for little kids. The remote controls are the stroke of genius on this product and why it has my complete recommendation. 5Super fun toySuper fun toy. The track is difficult to get together and then to keep together. Once you have it together though it works really well and kids had a blast with it. Controls are easy to use which is a huge plus since some can be so overwhelming. My kids had the most fun making their own course and zooming the cars all over the house through it. Also one of the tops came off the car and it doesn't snap back on but it doesn't effect the functionality of the toy. Just frustrating. Overall my kids have a blast with it so it's a win for me. 4AWESOME TOY AND AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICEThis was a gift from Santa for 10 and 7 yr old boys. We, including the older "boy"writing this review, love it! I grew up with slot car racing and still have it now and actually have a large track set up beside the Ai track and the Ai track is much more fun. The description of slot car racing with video game effects is very accurate. The set up and concepts are great. There are 3 skill levels so a novice to someone skilled with remote control cars can enjoy it. And the expert level is very challenging.... and very fun. I was concerned about the track initially after reading other reviews as far as its durability but I am no longer concerned.... as long as you use common sense and are careful. It attaches easily but securely and the tabs will hold up well... as long as you use common sense and are careful. Both boys can easily take the track apart and put it back together ( and I am not afraid that they will rip the tabs off!!) and the options for different layouts is great. Plus, each piece of track is lettered so it is easy to follow a diagram to build the track. Plus, if you want to purchase more track ( Hot Wheels does not provide that option), the " Real FX Racing Track" IS 100% COMPATIBLE ( even the letter system on the track is the same as Ai). Another positive is that the batteries seem to last a decent amount of time( I purchased rechargeables as I can see this will get alot of playing time). The product alone earns 5 stars but I would like to share an excellent customer service experience from Mattel that would make this a 6 star rating. One of the controllers started out fine but became defective( usable but defective). The steering lever gets stuck to the L and you have to manually place it back in the middle which obviously makes it harder to control that car which makes racing unfair. It was a drag to determine between a 7 and 10 yr old, who was going to get the bad controller. There is absolutely no warranty info on the product or online so I took a shot and emailed Mattel Customer Service, not expecting great results. But the response from Mattel was quick and very understanding. They could not send me a new controller but sent me a voucher to purchase a new car and controller at a local store. Very impressive to say the least! Thank you Mattel for this product and your superb customer service! 5Very good productI bought this at a local store, so I got to try everything out. The track has starting block spots for 2 more cars (for a total of 4 cars racing at the same time) but the set only comes with 2 cars. When I searched for 2 more cars on Amazon, I found that the same set I had already bought was half the price. I took it back to the store and bought another one here. The product is really good. The track is "smart" and flat. You have several configurations and each track piece is put together by inserting tabs. There are multiple ways to race the cars from the easiest setting, where the cars go only so fast with no possibility of going off the track (think 4 year old) to where you can disengage from the smart track and just drive freely around the kitchen floor. The track can be designed with the pit stops pieces and certain races require you to pit to remove race hazards that you can throw at each other. Battery requirements are 3AA and 3AAA per each car & remote. I don't remember if the remote took the AA or AAA batteries, but the car takes the other 3. (I bought this as a Christmas present, so it's packed away in the closet.) No issues with the remotes and cars responding. You can purchase additional track pieces and have that puppy running from one end of the house to the other. I'm not sure if you can actually tear the track pieces or not if handled roughly. The directions do specify that you avoid walking on the track pieces and to clean them by wiping with a damp cloth. 4I love that it has the drive assist option cause my ...My son loves it. I love that it has the drive assist option cause my son is only 4, so it helps keep the cars on the track. He also likes that it can go on regular ground as well. 5Don t forget to buy batteriesPerfect gift for my 12 year old preteen!! It s hard to get him things these days but this was so fun for him, he can play the car alone or put them on the track and ease a friend. He loves that they can play on or off the track and he can create his own track. It would be nice if the track was longer and if batteries were included. Don t forget to read the fine print for the batteries not included, he didn t have any so had to wait until the next day to get batteries. 5Nonstop problemsWe had numerous issues with this track. It is a tedious toy to set up but then had issues with the cars as well. The cars wouldn t stay programmed and we had issues with controls switching on and off. One car is always fast while the other is very precise on turns but this caused issues with the kids as they were unfair advantages at times. We purchased this for Christmas as a Santa gift and it was extremely disappointing. We had higher expectations. 1
