    it was a waste of my moneyThis thing quit working after a couple of days, it was a waste of my money! My child had fun with it for about 3 days before it quit working properly. We changed the batteries and it still didn't work properly. My advise is, save your money for something better! 1Cat friend (with mild supervision)I bought this guy for my cat to play with, or to satiate my curiosity, I'm not sure which was the bigger motive. I had the Hexbug zombie larva already and I really like how it avoids walls and objects. The cat is of course fascinated with both of these toys. They are both pretty different. This one has no avoidance sensors but it has the ability to flip itself over if it gets caught on its back. I really wish he did have the avoidance sensors though, as he is constantly getting stuck against a wall or wedged under low furniture. Thankfully my cat remedies this by batting him or pulling one of his legs with his teeth to dislodge the scarab from its seemingly favorite activity of banging its head repeatedly against the wall. My kitty actually dug into the basket and tried to play with scarab Hexbug by himself after I turned it off so I'd say this toy is a success. I took off one star because I think this toy should have some sort of ability to move itself away from the wall instead of getting stuck. If they combined the larva's avoidance sensor with this guy's faster speed and ability to flip it would be perfect for my needs.**my cat provided a demonstration of the Hexbug Scarab for your purchasing consideration** 4Fast and CreepyI bought the Scarab for my two cats and I was very surprised when I received as the "bug" was so much larger than I thought it would be. I received a light green one, which is great as it shows up well on the tan tile in my entry area and in my kitchen. I placed the Scarab on the tile floor in the entry area as there is more room there and my cats immediately were interested, they weren't afraid at all. Both cats stared at the Scarab for a bit, then batted it around and chased it. The Scarab fell over on its back but flipped right back over and off it went again. Even when the bug bumped up against the console legs it eventually moved around them and kept going. The movement is exactly like a crab would move, very creepy indeed. I recommend placing only on hardwood floors or tile. On carpet, the Scarab slows way down and I am sure will use up the batteries even more quickly. I highly recommend this hexbug for cats. Most cat toys are a waste of money, but not this! The only issue is that I have gone through 6 batteries today. At this rate I will have to buy batteries by the hundreds several times each month. I ordered more batteries already and a nano! I guess limiting play time for my boys is in order. They cry though, when I take the Scarab away from them. Always supervise play time as the legs are plastic and could be bitten off and swallowed. This is a very sturdy toy and alot of fun. I am hooked on Hexbugs now! 5Most life like Hexbug, SO AWESOME, get the scarab!This Scarab is the best Hexbug out of all of them because it is soooo creepy and real looking when it's crawling around!! Def makes anyone look twice thinking there's a huge spider crawling in their house, SO crazy looking it will freak out the best of us! These are such the perfect gift for any kid, especially boys but if your girl isn't squeamish then her as well! Got them on a great sale before Christmas and were the biggest hit! My nephews and friends kid absolutely adore them and thought it was the "Coolest" gift....much better reaction than the normal ones I get them, lol. Highly recommend as a super simple and awesome gift without having to look too far....Also, cats love them haha. 5The new one works great, but it also developed a problem which I ...My cat (a big 17.5 lb Siamese) loves it - even when it's off. I'm going to be getting another one which I hope will be a bright color because the grey/clear one is really hard to see when I'm trying to find it after he knocks it under anything where he can't get at it. It took several days before I found it the last time stuck in a bunch of cables behind the entertainment center.I did have a problem with the first one I ordered - even with new batteries it would only go a few inches before stopping. Amazon quickly replaced it. The new one works great, but it also developed a problem which I was able to correct. One of the spring contacts (nearest the head) would get pushed down through the bottom of the battery chamber and get stuck so it would no longer make contact. After teasing it back into position several times I inserted a small piece of paper in the chamber to prevent the contact from getting stuck again - see photos. 4Battery IssuesHaving purchased other Hexbugs in the past, I thought I would purchase this for my son. Out of the package we flipped it on and it made a slow whirring sound and then fell silent. It was essentially dead. Tried to flip the switch off and back on but the item wouldn't turn back on. I notified Amazon for a return and they offered to send a replacement item. Accepted the replacement which arrived two days later. The second one was dead right out of the package. Wouldn't even turn on at all. 1Great for cats and dadsI got this for my cat. I was worried that it wouldn't work with my ugly high-pile carpet (not my choice I rent) but it works great. It's not as fast on carpet as it is on my linoleum floors (also very ugly) but I think the stops and starts that it does on the carpet make it more interesting for my cat. As I am writing this, he is breathing heavily and frantically looking around for it. For such a lazy and fat cat, this is a miracle! I also showed it to my dad and he loves it too. 5Kitten approved!This thing is awesome! Not only doe it move extremely life-like, (which gets the kittens' attention), but because the legs are so high off the ground, it moves even on deep carpet, and if it runs into anything, it turns over, like a roach on its back, then turns over again, all on its own, righting itself, and keeps going!**And don't listen to the reviewer on here who plugged the Hexbug Zombie Larvae. At only $8, not only was this scarab a WAY better deal than the Hexbug Zombie Larvae, ($26) but that thing inched along so slowly my kittens weren't even interested, and it was so low to the ground, it got stuck every couple of seconds. If i have to stay right there to play with the kittens, they'd get a heck of a lot more fun out of a wand teaser for half the price. This Hexbug rocked. 5Great Toy!Great toy. I got it for my cat, and to scare the cleaning girl. Its pretty fast. Its still running on the factory installed batteries, though it seems to be draining them very quickly. As with all LR44 toys, buy a dozen batteries with it and you'll be fine. This toy gets stuck alot. The scarab would change directions at times, but would get stuck far more often than the same brand mouse. I would recommend the mouse, though this is also a great toy. Im leaving 1 star out for it not being able to easily work its way around objects like round table legs 4Broke on arrival, replacement was also brokenGot this as a Christmas present for my son. He was so excited but it was broken out of the box and the motor just hummed. Replaced batteries but same thing happened. Customer service was great and replaced it even though I was beyond 30 days, got the replacement and same thing motor just hums. I took it apart and believe the problem is the gear attached directly to the motor which slides out of alignment. Just a poorly made product. I requested a refund rather than try again with a junk product. We will see if I get one... 1
