We contacted seller and received a set of standard letters that slid off the board--one of the things we wanted to avoid when we decided to buy a Deluxe game. The board was warped thus involved a balancing of the letters as on a tent, the turntable was clumsy, and the standard letters did not work well (and looked tacky) with a Deluxe set. 1I dig it!Scrabble is fun. If you disagree, you probably won't be reading this review to begin with.Anyway, there may be fancier Scrabble boards out there, but this one is my favorite out of what I have tried simply because being able to rotate the board brings more plays to mind and is more fair for each player, in my opinion.I like the tile colors on this one, too. Nice and rich.Zero reason to deduct stars, so it gets allllllllll fizzive! 5A Classic--VERY NICE SET!Very nice. SInce everyone already knows about the game...I'll talk about this set.Box is OK, but gets frazzled after constant placing of the set in and out.Base is remvable for packing..nice heavy plastic. Not easily damaged.Game board is VERY excellent. Clear plastic overlay with grooves to keep letters on their spot (easily cleaned).Bright colorful board top has big bonus info and easy to read. Can never get soiled because of plastic overlay.Setting top on base allow EASY rotation to player.Nicely crafted plastic letter holders..this is the only weakness.Letter holders have LABELS with letter scores stuck to them and can fade or peel off/wrinkle over time.Nice thick letter chits with engraved letters.All around.... WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY OVER THE STANDARD BOARD SET!!!!!!HAVE FUN... 5Super Disappointed!This was a Christmas present that my 12 year old daughter purchased. Anxiously opened box (it was shipped too late for Christmas) and found that all the brown which looks like wood in the photo is actually very thin, cheap plastic. The playing board was made of cardboard and some other kind of plastic molded onto it. The tile holders were also plastic. The item listed for $229.99. Crazy expensive for something that should have been priced at $29.99. 1Better than Standard Scrabble, Not as Good as Old Deluxe VersionI definitely recommend this version of Scrabble over the standard version for these reasons:-There is a cloth bag, which makes a better "grab bag" for choosing tiles, meaning you don't have to spread them down on the table.-The tile racks have a listing of how many of each letter appears in the game.-The board has slots that hold the tiles in place (see more on this below), which is a lot better than the flat board where tiles shift around easily.-The board rotates, allowing all players to have the board facing them during their turns.-The instruction book includes a listing of a Q-words without using a "u" and also all allowable two-letter words.There are some downsides to this version, but mainly only in comparison to the old deluxe version.-This version's letter slots are very shallow; letters still shift slightly. It is a lot better than the standard version but not as good as the old deluxe version that had deep plastic slots.-The board is somewhat flimsy. The old version was made very well and not cheaply. This version is definitely plastic and probably isn't as durable, although I haven't had any problems with mine yet, except for a slight drift when the rotating wheel is in a certain position.For the versions of Scrabble that are currently available, I would say this is a good choice, but like other reviewers, I do wish the manufacturers had stuck with better materials and workmanship! 4Kore obeli! Speir?Having finally retired the venerable old family Scrabble board (purchased circa 1953), we upgraded to this Deluxe Edition, which, alas, is not quite as deluxe as deluxe is.The "old" deluxe edition was built to withstand the Charge of the Light Brigade. A heavy board was outfitted with an elevated grid to hold the letters securely in place. The old turntable was strong enough for your kid sister to sit on.This "new" deluxe edition still has a raised grid, though it's measured in millimeters not fractions of inches. This may in fact be an improvement as the letters used to get jammed in the grid anyway. The new-style turntable is made of a more brittle plastic with cheapo rubber feet which I assume will get lost fairly quickly. The letter frequency chart stickers are printed in dark gold, and the print gets lost against the maroon plastic of the letter racks.Despite the "everything was made better in the old days" lamentations, this is a handsome game that comes with everything you need to play Scrabble except for the Official Scrabble Player's Dictionary (available through Amazon.com) and an Official Scrabble pencil for keeping score. It's an odd oversight, since Official Scrabble Scoring Sheets ARE included.The letters are of heavy plastic, the racks hold the letters securely, the letter storage bag has a drawstring closure, and everything fits neatly into a storage bin built into the turntable. The ability to spin the board, Lazy Susan style, to accommodate each player's turn, is surprisingly effective in raising the enjoyment quotient of this Scrabble game by a factor of ten.Overall, nicely done! 4Learning more fun than everAs a late-30-something adult, I'm new to Scrabble & decided to go all the way & get the deluxe version after reading the reviews. I'm grateful I did. I love the rotating board that makes taking turns so much easier. The tile frames on the board keep the pieces from moving if board gets bumped. There's the option to have the game raised up or low to table, either way the board rotation feature still works. It looks & feels elegant & hardy.It is "addicting" though! The 1st week we had it, my husband wanted to play every hour, literally! I love it too, but not THAT much. I still have a life to live outside of Scrabble. I've always loved words and learning new ones to sprinkle into conversation--I read dictionaries for fun as a child! Somehow I never got into Scrabble until now and I can see why it has lasted so long & become so popular it's almost cult-like. Anyone who loves to learn new words, show off the little-known words they do know, or just likes to have good fun with friends or family, will enjoy this game, perhaps more than any other in their game stack. It's definitely worth the money to get this version over the basic Scrabble board. 5Scrabble 2.0!We've had this version of the game for several years now and it's great. The way the game is designed (to spin to each player at her/his turn) is awesome and makes the words much easier to read. The grid on the board is slightly raised which is great because the tiles don't slide around the board as much. And it's nice to have trays (? the place where each player keeps their letters) that have the point amounts of each letter clearly listed. There's probably a much clearer way of saying all these things - my apologies, lol - but overall this is a great version of the game for word nerds like me. 5Item was in great condition, but came with a little surprise.Good value for the Deluxe Edition of scrabble word game. Item was complete but did arrive with a strong bad odor. A musty stale basement smell. I wiped all plastic parts with a lemon scented Lysol wipe, the letter pouch got a spray of febreeze fabric refresher. I left some cinnamon sticks in the box overnight as well. The Deluxe refers to the spinning board and accessories. Satisfied with my purchase. 4DisappointedThis was sent to a friend as a gift. It was not the set I thought it was. I have a wooden one with storage and a turntable. This one was plastic. It looked the same on the box. 1
