    I just bought this and I am already in love with itI just bought this and I am already in love with it.. I love almost all card games.. but some are just downright fun.. and Guillotine is really a fun and easy to learn game.There are tons of reviews already on this game so I won't go into the game play, other than to say that if you need to, you can go to Youtube and find many reviews and tutorials on how to play. One game is about all you need to learn how to play and if not..and you need more than the instruction sheet.. then go watch a video. sometimes it is easier to watch a video the first time around, the the directions make more sense, though the cards themselves tell you what to do.Object of the game is to collect as many Nobles as you can with the highest points... but it is not as easy as it seems for their are obstacles lurking in your way..you have two sets of cards, one set is the Nobles you are going to try to obtain and the Action cards which have all sorts of different instructions on them for what you can or can't do.Pros: its fun.. it is different.. it is easy but yet you need to use strategy to win... and you learn a bit about the Nobles as they are called... box says 12+ ,but I think if your child can read well that a child a bit younger could easily play this.Cons: Not many cons..though I wish they had a couple of inserts showing you the cards lined up and ready for play... and this is really not a con.. just a fact of life.. the print is small on the cards so if you wear reading glasses.. you are going to need the to read the directions on the action cards.All in all.. a really fun game.. you will laugh and you will groan but if you enjoy card games, you will probably love this game.I am enclosing photos of the game set up for two... and some closeup of the cards so you can understand what I meant when I said directions were on the cards. 5the best 2 player game!Great game for 2 players. I went to a specialty board game store in Madison, WI, with hundreds of games. I asked the owner for recommendations on 2 player games, since it's usually just my boyfriend and I. He recommended this one, and I wasn't super excited about it (I have an aversion to history, and this seemed like a "period' game). I actually let it sit on my shelf for over 2 years before trying it, but now we play it all the time. It's really portable since it's just two decks of cards, so we bring it on vacation with us all the time. We've played with my boyfriends parents, as well as with younger siblings, and everyone loves the game (that's why I'm purchasing again through amazon- gifts!) It's a great mix of skill and luck if you're looking for something that anyone can play. 5Fantastic, fun little strategy game.This game is fantastic! This has become our go-to time filler game when our tabletop group meets and is waiting for people to arrive or are taking a break. It's super fun with only 2 people and just as fun with 5. It's a really fun strategic game and though there is some luck involved, strategy pays off too. I am also NOT a fan of games where you have to screw over other players to win, but in this one it doesn't seem so bad, which is a little ironic considering the subject matter. :) This game gets played over and over again at my house and is always with me if I'm heading off to play games somewhere else.The only minor complaint I have is that the action cards that give you specific point benefits/deductions, especially those related to colors are a little muddled in their presentation. It would be much nicer if the artwork would make it a little clearer exactly what's being affected so you could tell what's going on at a glance rather than having to read every card. Super minor complaint though for a fantastic game. 5Not for everybody but a good card gameHistory Lesson: France held the guillotine as a form of capital punishment up to it's abolition in 1981. Yep 1981. Okay let's talk the game. It's the bloody French Revolution's "Reign of Terror" 1793. A theme that may not be for some younger or more sensitive game players however, The game tries to make it as light as possible and even somewhat humorous in a Monty Python sort of way". Illustrations are cartoonish. (Example: Marie Antoinette lofting a two layer cake to throw at the watching crowd, exclaiming "Let Them Eat Cake". The game itself is a lineup of various characters awaiting their turn on Mademoiselle's Guillotine. However, there's a lot of varying going on who will be next in line. The guillotine standee is really only to denote the line direction. 1-5 players. The box says for ages 13+ and I agree with it. Not so much for it's difficulty level but because of the theme. With the right group this game is fun. Heck, there's a lot more outright violence exposure on prime time TV, movies and the news. 4This game is a lot of fun, but be forewarned that you will make an ...This game is a lot of fun, but be forewarned that you will make an enemy during the game when playing with people who do not take well to losing. It's a lighthearted card game that can turn ugly quick when playing with people who take sabotage too seriously. Inevitably, someone will take the lead and the rest of the players will gang up on that person. I think is a great litmus test, as if someone reacts poorly to being targeted for leading in this game, you know very well not to play competitive games with them in the future. The only other drawback is that it can be unbalanced, as many card games are, depending on hand you are dealt and the nobles in line. All in all, it's a great game if you're playing with the right people. And if you want to know if you're playing games with the right people, you've found your game. 5Such a fun, quirky game!This game is SO much fun! I'm a history nerd (and history major) who has always been obsessed with the French Revolution...and with card games. It's like this game was made for me! That being said, even if you don't love history...it's still a blast. (Just ask some of my family members!)We played it for the first time on vacation, and it made time spent in the hotel room fly by. It's actually my 22 year old brother's favorite card game (of the several that we took along on our trip). I'd highly recommend this! 5An interesting idea...Not a bad game. A bit dark and grisly to play with young kids who don't know anything about the French Revolution, don't know what a guillotine is, and have trouble understanding the card effects. The rules are built under the assumption that at least 3 people are playing. If mostly playing with two players, the line of nobles is way too long and limiting the game to best of three turns has it ending before any real strategy has a chance to mature. Neat idea, could've maybe used a different theme, though. It's weird when players feel like they are doing something unethical to win a game. 3Quick to learn, hours of fun collecting heads!I am a HUGE fan of games, and my family is kind enough to humor me on most of them. When I got this game out for the first time, everyone was a little taken aback at the idea of collecting heads. But after a couple of rounds it has replaced Love Letter as our go-to card game. It was VERY easy and quick to learn, the instructions included are pretty concise (there were a few questions about actions on some of the noble cards, but we just decided how we wanted to interpret it since there was no clear-cut definition.) We were a little taken aback that one of the cards is "Piss Boy" - I get that it is most likely a Mel Brooks reference, but it is a little vulgar for our 12-year-old daughter - we're not prudes, we just don't want our daughter saying words like that. I think there could have been a more classy way to reference his position. The game play is easy enough for kids under 12 to understand, so I wonder if it got the 12+ age rating for Piss Boy (and for the fact that you're collecting heads). If you play with younger kids, you may want to just take out this noble card. Other than "piss boy" my only negative comment is the packaging - the cards come in a box which is 1/2 full of an empty placeholder. The 2 types of cards do not stack evenly, so you have to mix one deck with another to go into the box. Even just a simple pouch like Love Letter would have been more efficient than the half-box you get with this deck. Not sure what the game designers were thinking on that one. 5Pointless, boring, kids hate it1. Kind of a pointless game. The cards for the guillotine have low point values.2. The action cards are unplayable for about 90% of the time so if you have five of them you don't do anything but wait.3. Kids hate it.4. Adults hate it even more.5. Soooooo boring. You spend most of the time waiting for someone else's turn and moving cards forward. That's it.I'm sure someone thought this was going to be cute, but it's not. I raised my kids on Clue so we were looking for a clever card game for the next generation. This is NOT it. 1Great game for your collectionThis game is soooo fun. I recently got into playing board games with groups of friends and wanted to expand my collection. This one wasn't too expensive, didn't take up a lot of space and looked funny so I purchased it before a weekend away with my extended family. Everyone very much enjoyed it. The rounds are pretty quick so you're not locked into playing it for too long, but every time you play its different so its not hard to realize you've been playing for two hours. We would also sometimes extend the number of days to 4 or 5 if we didn't want to end a game as quickly and that was easy enough to do.The instructions are easy to understand and it didn't take long to explain. It's also surprising how fast things can change as your playing. You might be winning the whole time and at the last minute someone can sabotage your game plan, so while some of it is luck there is alot of strategy that goes into it. Now I play this all the time with my roommate and my boyfriend when we're just looking for something to do on boring evenings. 5
