Customer Reviews

worth the extra moneydefinitely get this for your kite! makes it easier for the little ones no to let go, easy to real in too! had this for several years now and it still works! 5Too light duty for strong windI wanted a kite reel that would make reeling our kite in in a decent amount of time. This reel is a nice size, the crank handle folds in to make it easy to stuff in a bag, and the line is good quality. Unfortunately like so many products that are priced low, the quality just isn't there. The day I tried it for the first time was quite windy, so maybe in lighter wind it would have been fine.In strong wind the whole thing feels flimsy and flexes as you reel the kite in, and felt like the crank handle was just going to snap off. I managed to break the lock right off, though that was due to the fact that I probably shouldn't have tried to use it as a brake! That boo-boo was definitely user-error! 2I hope that you are flying a tiny kite in low wind!Connected this reel to a three foot wide kite made of ripstop material, and started to let it out.Perhaps thirty feet of line out - in a 8 to 10 mile an hour wind.. the reel handle bent.. the brake was useless..Wound the kite back by hand and switched back to a hand reel for the day. 1Tedious to use and not so robustThe string for some reason gets twisted and then it gets stuck in the outside of the wheel and jam the rewinding process.I am not using it again...not to mention it is still too slow and tedious to rewind the twine. 3Junky!This is truly a piece of junk. It is made of flimsy plastic, and broke after a single use. Its only advantage - cheap! 2Worked great for me!Okay, I've used it once. If/when it breaks I'll come back. But, okay, this thing is a PLASTIC reel only costing about $12-15, including shipping, depending on who you buy it from. I used it at the beach and it was great but, okay, don't use it in a tornado. If y9u want something REALLY study get a good fishing pole and reel. This was used with my recently purchased "Stowaway Parafoil Kite" and I was able to extend the entire 200' line to the end and reel it all back in without anything breaking. Yes, and it was probably due to reading some of the more negative reviews here about it, I was a tad paranoid it might break. But it didn't. Yet. (Come to think of it a good fishing reel for a kite sounds cool.) 4Every kite needs one of these! So happy I found one of these reels for my son. I had one as a kid and loved it. It s the only way to fly a kite! 5Broke first time used.Broke first time used. The lever that holds the spool from releasing spring popped out. The reel worked good a little stiff, it took a bit to reel the kite in with the release broken. 1For small light kites ONLY!If you are flying a small kids kite this is fine: I tried flying a large delta and it came apart in my hands. THis is basically a toy, not a piece of engineered equipment. 2BlahIt's about half the size I imagined it to be, based on the memory of one I had of similar design when I was younger. It also arrived with the pivot pin for the brake lever broken, so it's getting returned. 2
