Customer Reviews

A Crowd FavoriteI bought this game on a whim to play with family at a get together. The game itself takes about one game to learn, and requires a bit of set up. There is also the need to reference the instruction manual a few times, even if you know the game. People love the art and the concept of the game and everyone I've played with has really liked Sushi Go Party. The added word (Party!) means this is a larger version of the game, which comes with a game board and expansion cards. Both of these make the game much nicer. The board is a good way to make it seem more like a game, but I do not understand why they made the spaces where you put your game-pieces so small. The expansion cards are good because you can add new rules to the game. All-in-all the card and the cards and the board are of a good quality and should last if you take care of them. The game is a simple enough concept but requires a bit of strategy and a good mathematical mind can help, especially if you can do simple division. Just multiply the number of cards it takes to get to a specific objective and apply that to the cards. This is how I play, and for me the game is more about averages than collecting fun sushi, but for others that I have played with, the game is fun collecting the different cards and making sure someone else does not. The game is part skill, part strategy, part luck. I've been pleased at how much others have fun playing this game. 4Awesome game, but sadly, the manufacturing quality really is quite badIt's sad, but true. The build quality on these cards is very noticeably shoddy. The game is amazing, of course. It's everything I wanted from playing the original Sushi Go. But if only the cards were better... It's specially bad because due to the sizes not being cut correctly, you can tell some cards apart from other while shuffling. I really wanted to give this product a 5 star review, but I cannot let such awful quality control slip. 3Great game with one big issue....This game is incredibly fun. We loved Sushi Go!, but we were bummed that only 5 people could play as we are a family of 6. When I saw a new version that allowed for more players, I knew we had to have it! This one adds some really fun new game play. The ONLY reason I can't give it 5 stars is because after only 3 games played, the cards are rubbing off color onto other cards. I'm hoping to find a way to contact Gamewright and let them know about the issue. Hopefully it was just a bad batch print-wise? 4They are impossible to shuffle unless you put very sturdy card sleeves on them*Added 11/20/17:Changed my review to 4 stars after receiving my replacement copy of sushi go party with cards all cut to the correct size. Gamewright support was very helpful.*Old review, for those interested:Please do not purchase this at the moment, there is a serious manufacturing flaw in these cards. The game tin contains two packs of cards; the original Sushi Go cards and the additional Party cards. The new cards in Sushi Go Party are all cut larger than the originals by 1mm on each side. They are impossible to shuffle unless you put very sturdy card sleeves on them. The new cards are lower quality as well. They are lighter material and their edges fray very easily. This issue may soon be fixed in a new print run... or it may not. Buyer beware.I recommend you buy used, or from any seller that can confirm that the cards in their product are all uniform size. I regret that I didn't do my research before buying this... and the card sleeves I bought to try to fix the problem were too thin and flimsy to fix it. I wasted a good chunk of money on this game.I contacted Gamewright support over a week ago about this and have had no response. It's a shame because this does seem like a fun game. 4Give your old to a friend - this is the superior Sushi Go experience! It's the same pass and play Sushi Go game as the original except this one adds a nice feature. Like Dominion, you can build your own decks with pre-existing cards to play. As in the old game, you pick a card from your deck and pass it to the next person. At the turns end, you all reveal which card you played. You then try to build off of these initial cards (think of building various suits) to combo up points for the end of the round. As stated, this time around you have more options of cards to play. You can choose from the following types of cards:1 - Nigiri - these are the 3 types of Nigiri rolls played by default in every game (the only one you have to have standard)2 - Additional types of Rolls3 - Desserts8 - Specials8 - AppetizersEach type of card comes with a separate cardboard piece that is used to 'plug' into the scoring track so you know which cards you are playing that round. Each round you by default have the Nigiri Roll option, but can then customize from there, choosing, 1 additional roll, 3 appetizers, 1 dessert and 2 specials. There are suggestions in the rulebook form some base sets of cards. The game is quick and the scoring track is a great addition (no more pen and paper or scoring app). The cards all fit in the box in their own slots along with the scoring trackers, gameboard and instructions. I'm going to add a photo to this review of how I store mine to all fit in the box.Great game overall! Quick and fun to play for up to 8 players! Give your old copy to a friend and pick up this superior version instead! 5Such an awesome game, but don't buy the originalDon't waste your time and money on the original as this larger version has so much more to offer. This is an amazingly fun game that you can play with a few or many people. It comes in a nice metal tin, has durable board and "menu item" cards to go on the board to withstand repeated use. The players cards of a nice coated style playing card. Everything is very colorful with great art work and pretty easy to read. This PARTY version has so much more to offer than the original. You can customize the games from easy to hard by following the book recommended combinations or you can make your own combination so you never get bored. This game has been a big hit in our house with adults and kids/teens since it is so customizable. The directions are pretty easy to follow although we found the game was easier to learn as you played. Most of the cards have a brief description on them anyhow or on the board so you know how to play them. It's also nice that the game style is short with only 3 full rounds, but they can be slow or fast as you make each round then the game is over and you can switch up the options and play again. 5I love the Original gameLet me preface with I am an avid Sushi Go Player.I love the Original game, and I am very fond of this newer Deluxe version.I would give it 4.5 stars in reality, BUT... The new game has one SERIOUS design flaw. The card stock is much thinner/ cheaper. Some may not think it is that big of a deal, but one of the changes they made from the original to the updated version is a constant shuffling every round. I received this new deluxe version and brought it to a party to play it, and the very 1st thing I noticed when breaking out the cards is how flimsy they were. The reason I make such a big deal out of this, is that after only 1 nights worth of play I have some pretty beat up cards, which where all only handled by adults, and all using standard shuffling techniques. As I said, I am an avid Sushi Go player, I Played the original 1 night before I played this Deluxe version, and picked up the Cards from the original game not once, but twice today after my 2 year old got a hold of them. I can say with a pretty fair certainty that I am fairly familiar to the "quality" of the construction of the game.I want to rate this game much higher on mechanics alone, but if I have to replace the $20 card game every 3 months, it makes it hardly worth it,and I feel that is where I am headed.I would easily forgo the Metal tin in which this comes in. Or simply pay an additional $5 per game If the quality was much better. With all of negativity, it is hard to hear about how amazing the gameplay of this is. It is fast to pick up and takes a long time to master, definitely more so with this revision. The gameplay of this game is still pretty amazing. 3HAVE A SUSHI GO PARTY EVERYDAY!LOVE THIS GAME!!!! IT COMES WITH MORE CARDS AND NEW TYPES OF SUSHI ITEMS! I decided to buy this game after playing the orginal sushi go. At first I wanted to order the regular game but came across SUSHI GO PARTY and found out that you can include up to 8 players so I ordered this one! YAYYY I'm so glad I bought the extended pack no regrets!! They have all the old cards mixed in with a bunch of new ones so it makes the game more interesting! The party pack also comes with a board so it's makes it easier to keep track of everyone's points! If you loved the original sushi go game you'll love this one! Your family will love it! You friends will love it! Great for all ages!! PLUS it's so cute!! 5The Favorite GameHighlights: This game is worth it, well thought out, anybody can play and enjoy it, can be set up for strategy or easy play, always makes a hit at parties, and even little kids can play (WITH adults) and everybody can have fun. Included in box: clear, well written rules, a "menu" board, cards, point-keeping playing pieces, and a useful card sorter at the bottom of the box.Sushi Go Party is the next game out after Sushi Go. At first glance we avoided buying this as we thought it looked like an empty money-grabber sequel with no real additions. This was FALSE. If in doubt between Sushi Go and Sushi Go Party - buy Sushi Go Party. We own Sushi Go, and it's really great, but Sushi Go Party includes Sushi Go and has fantastic additional gameplay, endless options, fun, and strategy and/or easy play (depending on cards chosen for an individual game). The main differences: Sushi Go includes a deck of cards which you deal from three times (three rounds in each game). Sushi Go Party includes several varieties of cards that CAN be included, but the main difference in game play to the original is that the cards in the deck chosen for a three round game is SHUFFLED in between rounds. SG Party includes a game board that helps you keep count of points gained (necessary for a few of the cards during a round, such as Uramaki). The game board acts as both a score keeper and a menu. Points are shown by moving a colorful mini soy sauce around the numbered blocks around the edge of the board. The "menu" aspect is shown by the representational cardboard cards put in the middle of the board - these are the cards that will be in play through the three rounds of a single game. The cards are basically divided into types of cards, and the menu helps you create your own playing deck types. The manual lists some game types that are advised, such as original (Sushi Go) but you can invent your own - we've played with no desserts, for example. Cards are broken up into types and a certain number of these are advised per game: 1 Maki per game, 3 appetizers, 2 Specials, 1 Dessert.Cards include:Nigiri;Maki: Maki, Uramaki, Temaki;Standard Sushi Go Appetizers: Dumpling, Sashimi, TempuraNew Appetizers: Edamame, Eel, Onigiri, Miso, Tofu;Specials: Chopsticks, Wasabi, Menu, Takeout Box, Soy Sauce, Spoon, Special Order, TeaDesserts: Pudding, Green Tea Ice Cream, FruitIf too many cards are overwhelming at first, and you've never played Sushi Go, play a practice round with only nigiri cards to start seeing how play works. Pick one card, pass your hand, everyone flips their chosen card. Once everybody gets this, add in new cards. Basically each card has it's own rules for play, and as you add in new cards it can get more complex with more strategy. Our little one has won just playing cards he liked, though, so don't discount the kids. Most of the cards have pretty easy rules printed on the cards themselves but it doesn't require reading to play. I wouldn't advise playing with a few of the specials cards (edamame and spoon cards for example) with little ones though. We love this game and play it over and over. Adults love it. Kids love it. And it's fun to play with even a mixed crowd of kids and adults. My kids and nieces (ages four and up) can play. That's quite a bonus for a game. Teach the card types one at a time and even little ones can play - we've successfully taught a three year old to play basic Sushi Go. If you don't have room for many games in your house, go for this one. You won't regret it. Highly advised for adults and kids alike! 5Decent game, poor production quality and publisher supportI'm rather disappointed with the game manufacturers and the quality of the game produced. The cards do not quite fit correctly into the slots in the box. More importantly, there were several decks which were slightly different size, so when using the cards in this game it is obvious the "type" of card which is coming up in the stack.I've tried to contact the manufacturers, and while they initially said they had sent out replacement cards, they never did so. When I asked for a tracking number they admitted that they were "oversold" and had not actually sent it but would soon. Two months later, they have stopped responding to emails. The game itself is a decent simplified drafting game suitable for newish players. However, the game publishers and the product sold are a disappointment.----Edit: The manufacturer did end up providing a replacement approximately 4.5 months after the initial problem report. I guess better late than never. 3
