Customer Reviews

More batteries than you know what to do with? Perfect toy! This Christmas gift for my 3 year old son started out great. Easy to assemble, he was excited to finally have a track for his Thomas Minis (which for whatever reason there are hardly any of...), and he played with it for a good 20-30 minutes. Then he left it on and went off to something else. Because the motor is quiet, we had not idea and the batteries drained. Later that day, we put in new batteries and he played with it some more. Same thing. 3 more batteries dead. A couple hours later...3 more batteries. Literally by the end of Christmas day, we had gone through 12 AA batteries, and the weak rechargeable ones lasted maybe 5 minutes before they drained. I cannot believe how fast this thing drains batteries...unreal.The trains do stick if there are too many trains on the set at a time. Also, the tracks are not attached well,so they come out and have to be re-attached. That isn't a big deal.Other than that - its a fun little set that he likes to play with for 5-10 minutes at a time. I just wish fisher price would come out with plain old connectable tracks. No motors, no fancy hooks, just plain tracks. 2We are on our 4th one! They don't last more than a couple months.Unfortunately our son LOVES this thing. It's unfortunate because this is one of the worst built products we've ever had. We are on #4, which also just broke after a couple months. They start off good for the first few hours of use. Then the issues start. They suck batteries dry in about an hour or two. The motor starts to have issues and can barely get the trains up to the top, even with fresh batteries. 2 units had battery leakage. Now our latest has a bad gear or sprocket on the internals causing a loud super annoying clicking like gears stripping and the conveyer doesn't move. You then have to give it a push to get past the slipped gear and it's good for another 6 seconds.I just wish he'd lose interest in this piece of junk. I can't bear the though of getting a 5th. Not to mention we are probably at around $150 in batteries. The first few required battery changes 1Amazing fun for 3 year old. Poor battery life.My 3 year old loves this. He's enjoyef his mini trains for a while, but this toy made them awesome. A great value for $23. The trains move on it super fast and it even has a Cranky in top. It comes with 2 trains. My son has named them Race Car Thomas and Race Car James. Most of our other mini trains work well, but our more boxy shaped trains, like Annie and Clarabel don't always make it through the blue loop. It doesn't handle a lot of trains on it at one time. We've found 7 to be the max to avoid a frustrating traffic jam. You may have already guessed that limiting the excitement to only 7 trains is challenging to a 3 year old. Trains often catch and fall off too even with fewer on the tracks. An older child will manage all this more easily, but these are great learning opportunities for the younger ones too, for working through frustration and developing problem solving skills. I'm amazed at how quickly my kiddo has learned to avoid and fix some of the problems that happen with the trains. I took away one star because of the battery life. It takes 3 AA batteries. I had to replace them the morning after we started using it. Didn't last 24 hours. Disappointing even if we were using it a lot. Lasted 2 more days before the next change. I'll keep replacing them though. It is a fun toy. 4More fun than expectedBased on the reviews, I was unsure how much play value this would have for my 3.5 year old, but it has exceeded expectations. I purchased the Thomas minis advent calendar and this track was on sale for $20, so I thought it would be a fun addition. It took me about ten minutes to assemble. It has a lot of pieces that snap together. The instructions are just pictures, and a couple of them are a bit confusing. I actually found the enlarged photo on the box more helpful. It takes 3 AA batteries (not included) in the green base, held shut with a Phillips head screw.Once turned on, a motorized lift takes trains up to the top, where they can descend one of three different stunt tracks. The tracks can be selected with a manual switch which can be someone difficult to move. The 3 year old has gotten pretty good at it with practice, and the stiff action has loosened up a little with use. Initially it was almost impossible to get it into position for the loop track, even for me. This might be frustrating for some young children. My son finds it more of a fun challenge to get it set quickly before the next train appears at the top. It should be noted that you can't manually remove the trains while they're riding up the incline. They're stuck until they reach the top of the hill. Efforts to remove them from the incline result in an awful ratchet sound and slight burnt-motor smell...don't do this.So far we are successfully running 5 trains at once. Any more would probably be too crowded. Since we're going to end up with 26 total trains between this set and the calendar, I also bought the box that stores 50 trains. In addition to the motorized function, you can also hang 2 trains from Cranky and move his arm around. My son also enjoys putting trains under the grey "shed" at the base of the track. He will play with this for 30 - 60 minutes at a time, switching out trains and tracks. I had no idea he would like out this much. We'll see how long the batteries last. The motor is a little loud, but you kind of get used to out after a while. Highly recommended in conjunction with the calendar. 5Super fun motorized track! My boys never seem to tire of these tiny trains. We started with a few from the the local store, then purchased the advent calendar for them at Christmas time here on Amazon and the joy on their faces when opening the windows to see which one was next was priceless. We then also ordered these DC minis for Christmas day, and they were still equally excited to receive them. We didn't buy any other accessories at first other than the organizing wheel to hold them, and that built in track proved to be plenty of entertainment. The grandparents purchased THIS Thomas Minis motorized track for our oldest for Christmas, and it has been played with nearly non-stop since then. We are so happy with the quality of these fun but inexpensive items and would highly recommend! I will definitely be stashing some new ones to award as potty training prizes in the near future!Switch between the tracks for different results - takes a bit of assembly but nothing too crazy! 5Best Thomas Minis toy ever!Best Thomas Minis toy ever! Surprised at how well it works! Has 3 tracks and can run about 8-10 minis running as same time. Hard to believe they built every mini with intentions to be used with a track like this. Our Son spend 2 1/2 hours straight playing with it. Took a 30 minute break then played another hour before bedtime. 5Cute, well made toy for Thomas minis as long as you're aware of what it is and what it isn'tMy 4 year old son (like a great many 4 year olds) is obsessed with everything Thomas the train. He has a big collection of the minis that we take to church to play with because they're quiet and easy to pack around, but they can be hard to connect and pull around by themselves. When I saw this toy I thought he would love it because he loves anything motorized and that enables him to watch things go around and around (he's also autistic). This came very quickly and is very well packaged! It comes with 2 minis in case you don't already have some (but it works with all the minis we've bought from different stores in the last year). It was very easy to put together and only has 4 stickers to apply which is nice as I hate it when toys come with sheets and sheets of stickers to put on. This toy takes 3 AA batteries (not included) stored in a screw closure battery compartment on the side and has an on/off switch next to it. All said and done it took me about 15 minutes to put together with my son "helping". The colored instructions are easy enough to figure out without too much difficulty and you don't need any tools other than a screwdriver to put the batteries in.Once it's put together and turned on it works very well! The plastic parts and pieces are all very solid and sturdy unlike many toys and it doesn't feel the least bit flimsy or breakable (which is a big deal in our house). It's also relatively small and doesn't take up a ton of space unlike track master sets and tracks! I love that I can throw this in a closet! The toy is cute and works well with several trains at once and has 3 different options of tracks to go down, all of which are different and work well and pretty consistently. My only complaints about the toy are:1) It's a bit on the noisy side when it's turned on. It doesn't play any annoying music or make any stupid annoying sounds, but the motor itself seems a little overly loud for what it does (just rotates a rubber belt). Also, when the belt gets stuck (more on that momentarily) the sound it makes is REALLY loud and annoying.2) Occasionally the belt gets stuck and it has to be "helped" which so far requires my attention as my son doesn't really know what to do to fix it. Usually I just tug on the belt a little to get it moving again or realign a train that is on the belt. I wish it didn't get stuck, but this doesn't happen all the time.3) If you use it with too many trains at once, you will cause a traffic jam at the bottom and this will cause the belt to get stuck or the trains to not even make it to the belt. I recommend using it with no more than 4-5 at a time tops. Technically you can fit more in there but I don't recommend it. 2-3 is ideal.4) I wish cranky's dangling hook could raise and lower to pick up trains to add another degree of play. To have cranky the crane on there and have a hook dangling from the top that you can't actually extend or do anything with caused a little frustration for my boy. It's cute, but not functional, so just be aware of that.5) The rotating piece that controls which chute the trains go down at the top has to be switched manually and my son isn't fast enough to change it while the trains are on their way up. If it's not pushed all the way over to be perfectly aligned with each chute, it will cause a traffic jam at the top and the belt to get stuck. I feel like there could be an easier way to direct traffic. It's not bad, but I think could be smoother or click into place better to alert the kid that it's lined up with a chute. All in all this is a cute, well made, easy to use toy that won't break the bank, doesn't take up a huge amount of space and is a good accessory if you already have a bunch of Thomas minis. Some reviewers complained that trains get stuck on the various different chutes/tracks, but if you put it together correctly, making sure every piece is snapped into place just right, you shouldn't have any problems (other than with the rubber belt getting stuck sometimes). For the record, I didn't get a discount or anything for this. I paid full price and just wanted to review it for other parents/grandparents who are shopping for the right toys for the kiddos. Hope this helps!UPDATE: Someone asked if this track will work with the "flat bottom minis". I don't really know what those are because all the ones I've purchased in the last two years look exactly like the ones that come with the track itself. I've added a picture so you can see what the bottom looks like. I would say if the bottom of your minis is indeed completely flat and doesn't have these little ridges to hold on to the rails, they probably won't work with this set. That being said, this track comes with two and all the ones I've purchased from different stores work with it just fine. Hope this helps! 4Great idea but needs improvementThis product is bright and full of colors and offers three different routes for children to play with several mini's. And easy to use red diverter at the top allows you to use One of the routes and sends a mini flying through the blue loop and down to the bottom. Then begins its trek back to the lifting mechanism similar to what people would experience is if they were at a ski lift. The mechanism that brings it to the top, where you can route it back one of three ways. Another route allows it to send it right through the middle of the loop I have previously described and then a third route sends the Thomas mini way out and back into the bottom to the lift. This item can provide a child many hours of fun and play as well as being able to hang Thomas minis off of cranky when she allows two of them to be hung one on each side of his hook where you can swing them around and around and around. You also get two special minis, a decorated Thomas with flames and a red and black James (number 5).I found this item is too easy to break, there are times where various minis will get stuck on the lift or on the various tracks going around the toy. I have contacted the vendor and we have received replacement parts but I am still not fully happy with this product and ended up just outright replacing the toy. When this product is working my children are giggling and having a great time that's the only disappointing part of this is that when it doesn't work it really doesn't work and it upsets them. I have found out from a different toy that there are some minis that you can buy separately that are just not compatible. So be aware of this when playing with this toy as it may cause trouble for you as I described above. The notice is on the back of the box in smaller font than the photo I post. I would hope that the vendor has an opportunity to resolve they described issues above as well as my detailed call with them and make this a excellent toy. 2Fun for all ages!***update***We had this set for 6 months and one day it just died. Completely died. Batteries won't work anymore. We took it apart and there is no way of fixing it. So now the only way my son can play with it is if he does it manually. Keep that in mind when purchasing. ***My 2 1/2 year old is obsessed with this and so is the rest of my family. Its a roller coaster for mini trains and they go upside down!! It's easy for a toddler to do by himself. At one point I even saw my husband and dad sit and stare at it in awe! Haha! Any mini (Thomas) train will fit on there, which is cool too. Aside from the noise and battery eating motor, it's great! If you buy this, invest in some rechargeable batteries because you WILL blow through regular batteries. If you buy it knowing that, you won't be disappointed. It's more fun with more trains too, just don't put too much on there because they will jam. 3So disappointed.I'm not normally someone to come online and write a bad review on a toy, but today I am. My son is 3 and is obsessed with Thomas Minis. He's also is on the Autism spectrum. Which means he REALLY REALLY loves Thomas Minis! They are his everything. This toy was the biggest dissapointment for Christmas. It was the toy hes been dying for, the one he really wanted so bad. The toy not only doesn't function right AT ALL. It's got the worst clicking sound I have ever heard. I bought 48 batteries for Christmas for this toy specifically, it's been 5 days and this toy has gone through 24 of the batteries. Hes not leaving it on, it's just that the motor drains the batteries so quickly! I'm talking after like 10 minutes of play it needs 3 new AA batteries!! The only reason I haven't returned it is because it came with 2 "racer" minis that you can only get with this toy. And as you can imagine my child is in love with those 2 special minis and I do not have the heart to take them away from him to return it. Seriously please fix this motor issue! 1
