Customer Reviews

Fun gameDecided to buy because I love Castle Panic. This game, while having similar mechanics to Castle Panic, is quite a bit different. This game is a lot more involved, but still pretty straight forward. I enjoy Castle Panic more, but this was still a fun game. 4YayHavent actually played yet, because we suck, but it was brand new, sealed packaging, the artwork on the box and all of the pieces is fantastic, and the game itself just sounds downright adorable. 5Good game! The first time we played this, confusion ensued. We ended up watching a YouTube playthrough of the game. It s not that the rules aren t clear maybe we just aren t understanding them. In any event I may recommend looking something up in YouTube before playing. The actual gameplay was quite fun! I bought this because we own and love Castle Panic. This is much more complicated (in a good way). There s characters, tasks, and of course zombies. It s a lot of fun once you get going. 4I am terrible at comprehending game instructions the first time I play ...I am terrible at comprehending game instructions the first time I play a game. This has nothing to do with the precision or clarity of the printed instructions, and all to do with my predilections. So, the first time we played this game, we lost immediately. Then we re-read the instructions and played again...and again, and again. This game is totally awesome! If you own Castle Panic, another Fireside game, then you know the board layout. But unlike Castle Panic, your character can move around the board bashing and shooting zombies to your hearts content. We have owned this game for quite some time now, and we still get a kick out of playing it. We play with two characters each, if there are not enough people in the house to help out. My favorite character is Father Michael, with Grip Tape and the Candle. He might be a drunk on communion wine, but he's a force to be reckoned with!Great play dynamics, cool randomization element, and amazing graphics make this product immensely re-playable. 5Intense and enjoyable.Such a great, intense game. Every so often you will get lucky (bad thing, as that means the game is quick and easy), but pretty rare. More often, the game is fast paced, and you are racing around the cabin and the yard trying to stay alive, collect weapons, items, and radio pieces, and take out the zombies. 5Must have! This game is so much fun. A lot more complex and detailed than Castle Panic that has a pretty tense atmosphere. This game has more components and rules. I gotta admit that learning this game is pretty complex, maybe even too complex for a game that borrows the "Panic" gaming concept. One of the faults that I have with this game is making sure to remember all the nooks and crannies of the rules and being able to detail each step and little side rules like when it comes trading, giving and taking items. Zombie movement could get pretty crowded too, on top of character actions. If you're not careful and making sure that you follow the rules to the letter you could totally mess up the whole game. Luckily, online instructional videos and a FAQ page is available, officially released from the creators themselves.I have a pretty large gaming group, so we were lucky to have this on one game night that accommodate the maximum of six players. This game is pretty awesome when you play with a fairly large group, at least 4 players minimum to benefit from the full experience. Unlike Castle Panic this game features dice. So not only is strategy and placement and card management is involved in this game, but also the luck of the dice roll. People may be complaining about the minuscule number of available Cabin Cards (Items essential to your group's survival), but that just adds to the atmosphere of the game where your group works with a limited amount of supplies. There have been many nail-biting and intense moments when my friends and I played this game and it only adds to the fun that escalates very quickly. If you love Castle Panic and you love the Zombie theme and you're looking for another cooperative board game for your next game night, pick up Dead Panic. I enjoyed this one and would definitely want an expansion to this game. 4Better than ZombicideThis game is more in line with the zombie theme than Zombicide. And it handled elimination in a way that feels truer to zombie movies than any game I ve played. Zombicide is 50-60$. This game is better and only 15-20$. The only way to make zombicide better is to take all the great mechanisms in this game and add them to zombicide. In zombicide you might have a few players eliminated with 20-40 minutes left to play. Then you play a different scenario that s rated for 1 hour and beat it in 5-10 minutes. Zombicide is simply a boring game of chase that relies almost entirely on dice chucking. This game does it right. But it s your money and time. Do whatever. 4What it needs is CLEAR instructions - very convoluted! This would have gone off better as a video game. The 'instructions' are very convoluted - you don't have any clear idea of how to start, or what to do as the instructions don't really explain it. Going to YouTube doesn't help much either. I don't recommend this game. 1Make Sure EVERYONE Takes TWO Actions BEFORE the Rest of the PhasesThis is an excellent cooperative game, once the rules are understood, as another reviewer mentioned. This review is to primarily warn against the number one way this game is misplayed, which can utterly ruin the entire experience. My family actually fell victim to this misplay, it made for an aggravating atrocious experience, to say the least. On Fireside Game's website, this is listed as the number one way the game is misplayed. Here it is...EVERYONE is to take TWO actions BEFORE the other phases of the round take place (i.e., drawing an event card, placing zombies, moving zombies, fighting zombies and passing the Bait token). We thought (and apparently many others too) thought the rules said that only ONE player does two actions before the other phases take place. One of the actions that can be chosen by a player is picking a Cabin Card, which is essentially necessary in this game because you can acquire items to kill zombies. Otherwise, without a weapon, you only "push" the zombie back IF you win (i.e., if your dice roll number exceeds the number on the zombie token), which is very hard. When we played the game this way, we were completely overrun. It was impossible to win. I kept saying, "We have GOT to be missing" something. After conducting the research, we were skipping two actions for most of the players at the table, so we hardly ever had any Cabin Cards in our hand. So, to summarize: Make sure that EVERYONE does TWO chosen actions BEFORE doing the rest of the phases. This game is definitely harder and more complex then Castle Panic (even playing the game correctly!). However, if you like Castle Panic, this will be a great addition to your collection, as this game has a much different theme and certainly plays differently in many ways. There are videos online to see the differences. 5looks like it at first but then the extra pieces come ...Deceptively different from the "Don't Panic" game, looks like it at first but then the extra pieces come out and the rulebook comes out as well and you know it's a very different beast. Challenging to play, but lots of fun. 4
