Customer Reviews

Prefer more meat then fat...Not as functional for teaching math as other methods we have used. It would be better suited for practice/reinforcement for 1st graders or more advanced Kindergarteners. My Kindergartener needs a lot of hand holding with this and still finds it frustrating. The product quality is durable, artistically cute, and packaged well for continuing storage. It just wasn't fitted to our needs. Counting beans and other strategies seemed to work better. 3Beautiful presentation of measurmentMy grandson age five enjoyed this brain toy. He enjoy how the the concepts was presented. However, for improvement of this "brain toy". He found it confusing that the lines to determine the boxes had more lines . Example, for the 3 inches, there were four lines on the block. It is true that there was a division of three parts, but the there were four lines. Also the cap to the pen should be able to be placed on the pen. It was a little cumbersome for him to hold and write at the same time. Also the paint did chip with certain pieces. Once he was told to start with 0, then count it came together. 4Lovely and Fun to play with."This Inch-animals thing is lovely!" As quoted by my 5 year old son. We enjoy the Inchimals a lot. The box it comes in is great, so there is no need to get an alternative container; everything is neatly contained is a small space. The workbook is very good and looks fun to me, but is probably better suited for a child that is past preschool. For my preschool son, these currently are fun to stack and compare which two animals will be as tall as one animal. This is a very nice, tactile way to learn numbers. 5Great buy, educational, loved by the kids! This toy is great- my 4 and 5 year old daughters love to play with these. They look to find what 2 blocks equal another, then write their observations in a neat little book that is included. Teaches basic math in a fun way. Even my 12 yo son took a turn playing. I am considering ordering another so we can work of doubles (2+2, 3+3 etc) since there is only 1 of each number up to 12 per kit. 5So Much Fun!I bought this toy for my 3 year old daughter and she loves it. The concept of addition is all we have covered with these so far and I must say the visual is SO clear! My daughter understood how to find the answers pretty quickly after I demonstrated it a few times. She loves the colors and the animals. My 2 year old son likes to sit and play with the blocks she isn't using and it helps keep him entertained, which can be challenging when I do learning activities with her since a lot of the time he doesn't find what we are doing interesting. My only complaint is that the paint scratches off very easily. Not really a big deal when you are using them gently, but I had let the kids play with them as blocks when we first got them and they toppled the towers they built a bunch of times. When I saw all the scratches that one rough play session caused I regretted letting them play with them that way and now only allow them to be used gently for their intended purpose. 5Great for learning math.I got Inchamals for my youngest granddaughter for Christmas. She likes playing with it but is really too young to learn from it. Her older sister (5) really enjoys playing with it, and it is valuable learning tool. The problem was that her younger sister was not very willing to share. I debated about buying a second set of Inchamals, but decided it was such a great toy that I wanted the older girl to have her own set without all the quibbling. I am really glad I invested in the second set, and know that when they are done with them they can be passed on to another lucky kid. 5More impressive than I thought it would be! Five stars!I hesitantly bought this toy for my son for Xmas, trying to find something for him to learn math with. He is a bright 3.5 year old. I figured I would be working with him using these wooden rulers, which are of a much higher quality than I was expecting. So on Xmas he opens the toy, and plays with them himself, measuring daddy's foot, his own foot, etc. I show him the included book about how the rulers represent numbers, and how these numbers can be added together... just a cursory review. Well, about an hour later I was in the kitchen, and he comes running in and says, "Mommy! Guess what? Eight plus four is twelve!". Needless to say, I was pretty amazed... so I would have to say this is a pretty amazing toy --- you WILL have to work with the child, its not necessarily something that will fascinate them for long hours of play like legos or something... but it sure does hit the nail on the head when it comes to learning math. And its fun, too. I can't tell you how impressed I am. Plus, these rulers are build to last... so long as you don't throw them in the bath or something. I highly recommend this set. 5Great Toy to Reinforce Math Concepts at HomeLove this! My girls attend Montessori school, so I am familiar w/ math manipulatives (concrete materials/objects used to demonstrate a math concept). I bought this toy to help reinforce math concepts at home -- but I also wanted something different than what my girls would see in the classroom. Conceptually, this toy is in line w/ Montessori counting rods, but there are a few features that make it more "fun" to work w/, such as the animal illustrations on each rod, and the dry eraser notebook w/ pre-set math problems. My only grip w/ the product is that, while the rods are substantial enough, most of them have knicks/tiny defects. Not a deal breaker, would still buy the product again -- but it's a little bit of a bummer, esp bc the toy isn't really cheap (although less than cost of actual Montessori product) 5Beautiful but holy paint chipping Batman! This is a great toy; building, learning numbers with dots & numerals, inch marks But holy moly does the paint fall off every time they hit something. The corners are white after a few days (I have a boy, lots of bashing) and I have to wipe the paint chips off the table when he s done. So A+ concept that could use a tweak. 4Great intro to basic math for my 4.5-year-oldMy 4 1/2-year-old absolutely loves this. I'm so impressed with it! The first time we used it, she told me she didn't know how to write her numbers. But once I showed her that they were on the bottom of the blocks, and that she could look at them for reference, she started filling in the spaces no problem. Adding two of the animals together to equal a third seemed to make perfect sense to her and she enjoyed counting them individually, then together, then comparing them to the taller animal. She was so proud of herself and kept asking to do another page! She also likes to just fiddle with the blocks, counting them up and down, stacking them on top of one another, using them like puzzle pieces to make squares and rectangles. Her enthusiasm has continued each time we've taken the blocks out. My one complaint is that the price is a bit high. It would make an amazing gift if it was closer to the $25 range. 5
