Good kit for learning engineering principles. Easy to use.I bought this for my 5 years old who's a big fan of lego and machines in general. He can actually build these himself and has a lot of fun doing it.The manual comes with interesting theory and experiment for kids to do to learn some of the principles. This part however is likely more targeted at older kids (although my 5 years old with some adult guidance does the experiments).The main reasons for removing a star:- Although this set let you build all items for the 5 individual sets, you only have enough parts to build one of them at a time (I was hoping at least 2).- Many of the models instruction are not included so one has to go online to get them (which was a disappointment to my son when the first thing he wanted to build didn't have instruction in the box)Jury is still out on if he will end up building his own model (or at least making modifications to existing ones) using the parts. 4Great hands-on adjunct to a STEM class introducing principles of basic physics.I am using this kit to introduce basic Newtonian physics to 12 thru 16 yr olds. The projects are very useful in demonstrating how the various laws work. They are also useful in showing how to employ the applicable equations to predict outcomes of experiments. Note that the introductory material included in the booklet is very basic. It needs to be developed in more detail in order for STEM students, especially in this age range, to get a practical feel for Newton's laws and the associated math. The parts go together and come apart fairly easily. The project "blue prints" are easy to follow. 5More than just fun - It is a learning ADVENTUREBought this set for my 11 year old son. He loved it! I was surprised that he, who is not big on studying, dove into the learning portion of the instruction book before he even started building the projects. He LOVES to build things, but really enjoys building for a purpose, not just to make something cool to look at. This set allowed him to build some cool looking projects that DID something. He learned from the book, applied that new found knowledge to each project and had so much fun I don't think he thought about it as science/physics. His older sister watch him run some of the experiments and said that she was just now learning the things he was working on in her science class and that she learned more from watching his experiments than she did in class! Quality of the plastic parts is high. Only niggle was that one of the experiments (catapult) did not really display the physics involved as well as the others, but my son enjoyed that experiment nonetheless. If you have a kid who liked to build things and likes to "see what happens when I do this..." then they will love this kit! 5Great hands-on part of a STEM course.I am using this kit as a part of a STEM class for 9 thru 12 yr olds. Note that this kit is not a stand-alone STEM course. I provided background material on the general elements of STEM and then integrated this kit into that course. The course I developed and taught fits into 20 weeks of classes.The bridge design options provide students with hands-on construction of specific structures. There are also opportunities to explore the relative strength of one design approach with another. The construction "blue prints" are easy to follow. The parts go together and come apart fairly easily. I highly recommend this as a fun yet practical adjunct to introducing students to STEM. 5Love learning toysI love toys that get children off the screen and tv. It took him a couple of hours to get the first project done. Thumbs up!!! 5Hours of funI bought this as a Christmas present for my 7 1/2 year old son. So far, this building set has kept his interest, especially the catapult. He built the catapult mostly by himself. The directions seem to be fairly easy to understand. The pieces snap together easily and seem to be made of quality. I plan to buy another set for his birthday. 5Love STEM toys!My Grandson has always loved Leggos, but is getting a bit too old for them. When he opened his birthday gift and pulled this out, all the parents immediately questioned me where I found this. Please keep putting STEM toys on Amazon. My Grandson loves them, the harder the better. 5And I love that, unlike with many LEGO setsMy engineer dad bought this for my 7-year-old son. He loves it! And I love that, unlike with many LEGO sets, he is motivated to take it apart and recreate it in different ways. 5Not sturdy, unclear instructions, hard to to perform experimentsI bought this to compliment a homeschool science curriculum. I had high hopes for this kit- it seems like a great, hands-on way to introduce kids to the Newton's laws- but the experiments are not easy to perform as the models built are far from steady and easily collapse once you load, shoot, etc. as indicated. In addition to that, the instructions are at times unclear- they seem to have been translated inaccurately. As such, it has led to much frustration and much wasted time.Conclusion: if you just want to build models for the sake of introducing basic concepts of physics, this might be a good kit to have. But if you actually plan on performing the experiments or plan on using this to compliment a science lesson, look elsewhere. I would return this if I could, but we have been building one model every 2 weeks, which means that the return window expired by the time I realized just how difficult i it was to execute the experiments on this kit. 2Awesome way to explain Newton's laws!I love this kit. Its really the accompanying booklet that makes the kit. The booklet reviews the theory, show how to build the models and has experiments to perform. I am using this in my 3rd grade home school however after looking at the product I will keep it for when the subject are revisited in middle school and high school bc it will ve just as appropriate. 5
