Customer Reviews

A game both my kids and I enjoy together! More than a mere memory game!Ok, this game took me by surprise. I liked it more than I thought I would. The quality--as is true of practically ALL Ravensburger games--is spectacular. I can see this lasting a long time. The detail is also amazing. It is clear that a lot of thought was put into this. The mechanics of the game were much more in depth than I thought it would be for a memory game. For those of you who do not know how the game works, I will briefly describe it. The board has 3 main areas: the town, the forest and the castle. Everyone starts in the town. You are trying to become the heir to the castle/kingdom by being the first to learn the whereabouts of 3 storybook items (Puss' boots, Rumpelstiltskin's spinning wheel etc.) and report them to the castle. The items are hidden under trees scattered about the forest. You get to move about the forest by rolling two dice. If you can land on a tree space with a combination of your two dice (or even just one die) you get to "peek" under the tree to see the treasure there. Now you have to remember all the special items you have seen hidden under the trees so that you can report its whereabouts to the castle. Now, the castle has a "deck" of eleven cards, one for each hidden item. If the top card of the deck has a hidden item that you know the location of, you make your way to the back of the castle to "report" its whereabouts. If you guess correctly where the item is hidden on the board, you get to keep the treasure and a new card is revealed. If you know the new card's whereabouts too, you can roll to guess that one as well. The winner is the one who collects 3 cards first. 5My 4 Year old loves the game and will play it for many years to come- Great choiceI bought this for my 4 1/2 daughter based on my knowledge that Ravensburger is good quality and the good reviews. I think it was also on sale on Amazon at the time. My daughter really does love the game. It is a tad challengeing for her now based on the official rules. So right now what we do is no matter which players turn it is, we let everyone see what is under the tree. Sort of more like the old school memory card game. We also right now help her count her various options after she rolls the dice. It is still hard for her to understand that she may have 2 or more choices to move and that one of those may be a better choice and allow her to land on a tree to see what is under it. We figure as she gets older we will move to the official rules, making it more challenging. I love that the pieces are not Disney characters and just wooden pegs. It seems to be of good quality the board and all the pieces. I can see her playing this games for any many many years as she learns to strategize. Just to be clear the trees have pictures under them that you mix up and place on the tree spots each time you play, so the game is never the same. This is great. I think it is well designed and thought up game. My daughter wants to play over and over. 5Delightful memory game with a little luck thrown in.Our kids love this game (ages 7 & 8). Enchanted Forest is a memory game, with a little luck thrown in. One treasure is hidden under each tree in the forest. As you move from tree to tree, you get to peek at the treasures you find. Can you remember where each one is hidden? When the king asks where one of the treasures is, players race to reach the castle with the right information. Older children might not find this game very challenging and they may discover ways to assure they win. All the kids were have played with between the ages of 5-11 years have have loved this game. I highly recommend Enchanted Forest. Please mark if you find my review helpful. Thank you so much! 5Fun game...But the instructions are terrible. They don't give you any idea on how dice rolls should be played. It just simply says move that amount. Which leave questions like, can you back track on the spots you already moved in that turn or if you move 1 dice amount in 1 direction and move 2nd dice amount in the other.Love the concept of the game... It actually challenging to remember where things are. But the instructions make it so that you play the game by house rules, rather then the way it's intended to be played. 4Memory game that's good for younger kids.I picked this one up on sale for half the current price. For that amount it's worth it if you have 4-8 year olds in your game playing group or household and they enjoy memory type games. The quality is good and the rules are simple with variants to make things a bit more difficult for older kids.Overall, it's a memory game with rather simplistic movement on a gameboard to make it just a bit more challenging and throw some luck into the mix. It plays on a multiple path board that has no specific direction you must move. I don't particularly care for boards of this type as most games on such boards favor going back and forth over an area until you've picked up the required item(s) and head for home. At least in this one you have to remember where the item is located, but once you've been to half the trees you can usually win easily by camping out on the "guessing" spot.Gameplay is pretty straight forward. Roll your two dice. Move to a new circle (simple rules let you use each die as an independent move). If it's a blue circle, pick up the tree beside it and look at the picture underneath. There's a card turned over on a stack on a specific board location. If you find the item under a tree that matches the picture on the card you make your way to a specific spot and "guess" where the item is. If you're right, you show everyone and take the card. If you're wrong, you replace the tree, without showing anyone the item underneath, and go back to the start space. The first person to get three matches wins. The game's biggest flaw is that the "guessing" spot is away from everything else so as soon as you head for it it's generally assumed that you know where the item is located. That sometimes makes for a scramble as everyone tries to be the first there to guess. You can use the path to get from one side of the board to the other without making a guess so the older kids will sometimes do this just to throw everyone off.Our 6 year old loves it and has since it was purchased, when she was 4. She's better at it now for no other reason than she can count better and understands the movement requirements. She has a good memory and will often win once she's visited about half the trees but she "beats herself up" if she guesses incorrectly or revisits a tree. She's also good at reading her siblings (ages 11 and 14) and "getting" it when they stumble across the tree hiding the item to identify. She'll use this to try and beat them to the guessing spot.Games played with the "easy" rules and movement typically take us no longer than 30 minutes. It's rare we play more than twice in a row as everyone, but the 6 year old, tires of it quickly. That's why it only gets 4 stars. 4Proabably good fun: if you bend the rulesLike others have said, the rules make for very long, boring gameplay. I like board games, but this one was hard to sustain my interest, let along our young child's. Too much randomness with little in the way of strategic gameplay. So I got to thinking about tweaking the rules to make it more interesting, like:Roll a double six and you choose to cast one of two spells: a "good" spell that lets you pick up any tree; and a "bad" one that sends another player back to a starting point.Roll a 7 and you can take an extra turn, OR split the roll: you move the number of places according to one die, and make an opponent move according to another.Roll snake eyes and you can take an opponent's treasure (one time per game), or just skip a turn. If you take treasure, every time you roll snake eyes, you always lose a turn.Would be great to have ideas/suggestions from others here in the comments. 3Best family board game ever!I don't know how many of these sets I have bought over the years. This is our FAVORITE family game. It is universal in its fairy tale appeal and a combination strategy/luck game. We have bought many sets for classroom teacher gifts and gifts for other kids. We LOVE this game. My kids have all been able to be their own character around age 7yo but due to the strategy portions, they tend to like to share a character with one of us parents. Boys, girls, kids, and adults can all enjoy this game. Great for family game night when there are more than 3 people playing or for classroom gifts for indoor recess. 5Fabulous Game!Love this children's game! Bought it for my daughter for Christmas (she is 5). She wasn't thrilled as she didn't recognize any of the characters on the box, but it is now her favorite game! This game involves memory, some strategy and a little bit of luck. There are tree's with items from many stories hidden under the tree. You roll dice to move your mover and try look at what's under the tree's by landing on their spaces. Once you think you know where the item you are looking for is, you try to get to the key in the castle to guess where the item is. If you are correct, you keep the fantasy card, if you are incorrect, you go back to the village and start again. Everyone in our family (ages 5, 7, and adult) has developed a different strategy for this game, and we all love it! 5Very Slow. See Our Rule Adaptations Below. The first time we played this game (one adult plus 5 kids ages 4 to 13) it was PAINFULLY slow. The kids were getting very frustrated with the game, especially as they had so much trouble getting a roll of the dice that would get them to where they wanted to go. Six players seemed too many to play the game, as the time between turns seemed like an eternity for our younger players.I liked the game concept and design, and it had such rave reviews that I felt like it was worthwhile to make some rule modifications to keep it interesting for our family and pick up the pace. Our rule modifications are as follows: We made two Treasure Tile piles instead of one so we have two things we re looking for at once. At the beginning of the game, everyone gets to look at one tree as a freebie. You can a make a guess at either the key space or the horseshoe space. Doubles: Pick one:>Look at any 2 trees. (No need to move.)>Jump to either the key or the horseshoe.>Mix up the Treasure Tiles (one pile only) and turn a new one face-up on top of the pile. If you roll your age you may move the number of spaces or look at any one tree. These rule modifications are the only way this game works for us. (We literally had our 5- and 7-year-olds fall asleep during the first game we played with the original rules!). With the original rules it takes far too long to get the action of the game moving; we like to get going at a faster pace. 3Great kids gameGot this for my younger children. I remember how much I played this as a kid. As the years have passed and board games evolved, this one feels dated...If you play by the rules, the game is pretty dull. A lot of roll and move and the requirement of landing exactly on a space is eye-rolling. With our youngest, we skipped the dice completely and created a modified matching game. With the mid-range kids we kept the dice, but considered passing/landing on a spot OK to see a tree or guess at the castle.Good price, but proceed with caution. 4
