Customer Reviews

Amazing In TheoryThese are well made and pretty clever. One thing I would mention though is that it is SUPER time consuming to copy a premade dungeon map onto these guys. I ran Storm King s Thunder and 75% of the maps were too complicated shape-wise to make work in this context. I m not knocking the product, just my map drawing abilities. Consider printing out things on a grid instead. 5Not bad. Not great either. It's OK. It's not awful. The concept is top notch. The grid lines do not line up perfectly on all the pieces. Day one out of the box using the included marker I have a mark that will not come off. I know that will happen over time but I didn't expect it so swiftly. The pieces are sturdy enough, but I'm wondering how humidity and such will effect it. 3I like the productI like the product, but unfortunately a few of my tiles were significantly miscut making them useless. I normally don't complain because I know errors can happen, but it's a little disappointing considering these are fairly pricey. 2Love 'em. My wife got them for me as ...Love 'em. My wife got them for me as a Christmas present to play with our large group, and with individual friends. We play 5e D&D, and these things are nearly perfect. They do hold on to dry erase marks if you don't clean them, but another dry erase marker and some windex, and a bit of elbow-grease has brought most of the marks off.Betware: if you don't treat them nice, they can fall apart. They're just laminated cardboard. Spill fluid or toss them around, and they'll start to come apart. 5Wanted to like them, but ultimately decided to buy another Megamat.I bought these as my 15 year old Chessex Megamat had too many stains from pens not being cleaned off. (Left it in the car one summer after using it for Free RPG Day and forgot to wipe off the final encounter from DCC RPG's Elzemon and the Blood-Drinking Box) I had also used permanent marker on it once, and being well used, I started looking for an alternative. I hesitated on just getting another Megamat as they are now double sided and I really liked the old cloth backing. After looking around a bit, I settled on these. I have already moved them to my "stuff I don't use pile" as they didn't all match up perfectly on the lines, and the thin pieces where the tiles connect were already rising off the cardboard (out of the box). I used them for one game and between the weight of carrying them around and the imperfect lines, I just decided to get another Megamat. I'm quite happy with my choice. The Chessex Megamat is the better product. Sorry guys, I wanted to like these but they take up too much room, have too much weight and just don't give me the solid grid I want when playing. Also, an uneven table surface (like two tables pushed together) causes these to have some issues as the tiles are thick cardboard and if they can't all lie flat, they bend at the joints making for a jumbled playing surface. 3I'm a little disappointed in the product overallI'm a little disappointed in the product overall. My concerns:- The lines on the squares don't line up well- The tiles appear to be cut a bit crooked with respect to the lines on the tiles.- Some lines are missing...part of the "cut" apparently removed them?- The corners on several of my tiles are "peeled back" right out of the box. 3Good in use, minor issues with cleaning/"fitment"These are great for portable pre-drawn battle maps, but cleaning has an issue. If you aren't careful you can get liquid onto the sides that will absorb into the cardboard and cause issues with fitment or coloration. Some tiles have lines that won't line up precisely as well, which is annoying. 4These work great, especially their ability to be easily moved about ...These work great, especially their ability to be easily moved about and interchanged. I especially like being able to prepare a whole dungeon before hand and add on sections as the party moves. It also allows me to extend in any direction (players can't assume the direction of rooms and halls because of a pre-defined map size and positioning!), I can easily start in the middle of the table and extend in any direction, to include wrapping back around where the map started. These would be even more awesome if they were a ridged plastic. I wouldn't mind seeing that in the future! 5Disappointed.I guess I'm just kind of disappointed. The printing on the tiles is sub-par. A lot of my five by five tiles don't match up in the slightest and some have double printed lines or are missing lines entirely, so I'll have 10x5 (instead of 5x5 squares, or in non-D&D terms, 2"x1" instead of 1"x1"). Don't know if I just got a bad batch or what, since I see a lot of other reviews are way more positive. I wasn't expecting the material to be the greatest ever (as its essentially a cardboard puzzle), but I thought the lines would at least be usuable on all of the tiles. I guess I'll stick with my dry-erase mat and drawing as I go. 2A nice addition to a GM's arsenalOverall these are a nice addition to a GM's arsenal. They're great to have sections of your map drown out and then put each out for your players to see only when they need to. I have some issues though with the connecting tabs, right out of the box some of them shown wear and were de-layering. Also, the lines don't match up exactly if you don't get the right two pieces together and for a person with OCD like me, this can be an annoyance. The box they came in can be used for transportation and storage with little issues. Oh one more thing, I wouldn't recommend using wet erase markers on these, they have a tendency to wear off and or bleed onto other sections while in transport. 4
