Customer Reviews

Price is well worth it!I've been playing Magic: The Gathering for years now and have always been a person to Scoff at things like protector sleeves. Recently, I bought a very collectible item that contained many rare cards. I decided to buy these since I've heard that their brand is one of the best out there. Without a doubt a premium collection of sleeves. They feel durable and slide very nice with the slightly textured back. A pack of 100 is perfect for a commander deck or just a regular 60 card deck plus extras. I even got 2 extra sleeves. Not sure if they do this in case of a broken sleeve. Either way I'll be buying many more. 5Some tips on double sleeving that helped me a TONRecently bought these sleeves for double sleeving my modern mtg deck but had heard a few things about dragon shields being frustrating and difficult to sleeve doubley (is that a word?), and I wanted to address some of those complaints given my experience with these, because I've found a few work-arounds and noticed some things that I wish I knew going into the sleeving process that make it super do-able and can help you enjoy the best sleeves on the market as well as the added security of double sleeving. Here are some hacks that I worked out in my sleeving process.... (using KMC Perfect Size for the inner sleeves)1. Use a hard surface to press the sleeved card into the second sleeve - so the most common issue I had was when pushing the sleeved card into the second sleeve, my pressing would force the card to slide out of the inner sleeve and into the bottom part of the second sleeve without being covered anymore. So at the top of the final double sleeved card now there would be a floppy, empty inner sleeve that you couldn't force into the Dragon Shield sleeve because it wasn't holding a solid card anymore. On way to fix this was to flip the card over when it was half way through the second sleeve and use a table or something to push it evenly through the second sleeve. This is way harder to describe in type than it is to show, but if you figure this out it will make life a little easier for sleeving.2. KMC inner sleeves are NOT that consistent - This was a massive revelation for me, if you have a particular card that is being super stubborn and keeps sliding out of the inner sleeve as you push it through the Dragon Shield, try using a different KMC inner sleeve. It's crazy how often this was the problem. In my testing the inconsistency was never once on the Dragon Shield side, but always always on KMC. I would say just buy extra inner sleeves so you can cull out all the janky oversized ones you find and maybe save those for cards you need to ship or decide to sleeve with more generous outer sleeves. I saved mine for Ultra Pro Eclipse, which are way easier to double sleeve but I don't like as much as Dragons.3. You can stretch the sleeves a little... kinda - I'm sure this isn't recommended by Dragon Shield or by super fastidious players who probably want an absolutely ideal seal on their sleeved cards, but I found that if you have an inner sleeve that absolutely WILL NOT go into an outer sleeve (to repeat I am positive the issue here is the KMC being randomly a little bigger than average and not Dragon Shield being smaller) I found that putting 2 or 3 unsleeved cards into the sleeve and pushing them all the way to the bottom, then taking them out, sufficiently stretches the Dragon Shield enough to slide a sleeved single card in later. I would work out a system where I would stuff 5 Dragon Shields with 3 basic lands and set them aside while I put inner sleeves on a few cards, then after a minute or two I took out the lands and then my sleeved cards would slide in much easier. Not so easy that I felt like I completely deformed the Dragon Shield sleeve, but about on par with an inner/outer sleeve pairing that happened to be randomly smooth and easy, because along the way you'll run into a lot of those as well.4. Sleeve as best you can, get air out, then sleeve again later - if you have a card/inner/outer sleeve combo that's just being super difficult and don't want to stuff the sleeve to stretch it, another way to stretch is to just double sleeve as best as you can, even if there is a little wind sock of inner sleeve still poking out of the top, and then smoosh the cards under a stack of books to force out the air for a few hours, then unsleeve and resleeve them again. Pushing the air out I find not only flattens the sleeved cards, but also makes the inner/outer sleeves a little more agreeable with one another. I put books on my fiished sleeves anyway to get that extra air out anyway, it makes the deck way smaller, flatter and less likely to tip over when stacked as a library. As a product review, I prefer Dragon Shield because they come in sets of 100 and have a really high quality relative to other brands I've used. It doesn't hurt that they also come in more interesting colors than other brands, and these new purple ones are pretty striking. They have an almost metallic sheen to them on the back, but still textured and nice. I really like them with a black deck personally. But again, hearing about the double sleeving issue was almost a deal-breaker for me because my preference is to always double up to protect from potential water damage, and if these sleeves were incompatible with that they would be useless to me. 5FabulousPros:- Beautiful, rich color.- Very clear, the best for foils that I have found.- DOES NOT get scuffed up. They look almost new for a long time.- Thick- Good for double sleeving.-Comes in a nifty box that fits sleeved cards.Cons:- Poor shuffle feel in my opinion.- Harder to double sleeve than KMC but it's doable.- Since the sleeves are think, so is your deck. And I have small girl hands so it's harder to shuffle. Also means your deck will take up more room in a deck box. If double sleeving, you'll need a larger deck box. I use Ultimate Guard Deck case 80+ for standard 60 card decks and the Ultimate Guard Deck Case 100+ for commander 100 card decks. 5Live up to their nameAfter hearing so much about them, I decided to spring for a pack of these sleeves. They aren't as sturdy as I had imagined, but definitely a bit better than their ultra pro counterparts. The matte sleeves were a great decision; grip is good so the cards don't slide around as much, yet still easy to shuffle. As seen in the accompanying photos, I got these for my emblem and soldier tokens so I can tell them apart from the character sleeved cards in the main deck. If the character sleeves look less clear than the dragon shields, it's because they've got another KMC oversized sleeve on top (got to keep Uzuki nice and safe). They're pricey, but as other reviews have said, if you want to pay for quality, then look no farther than these sleeves. 5Petrol is turquoise?I was not expecting "petrol" to be a bright blue-green, but it was a pleasant surprise, not an unpleasant one. (I had been guessing brown.) It's very easy to get cards into the sleeves, and they look good in play. However, in the sleeves, the cards are too tall to fit into boxes from older preconstructed decks, so if you (like me) had been storing decks in roughly-thematic boxes (a black creature deck in a Rat's Nest box, for an example), you'll need another place to store your newly-protected cards. The sleeves do come in a very nice box, but since my deck was 60 cards, I had 40 left over, which I left in the original box. 5AMAAAZINGI've always been a Dragon Sleeves person. Then I tried Matte Dragon Sleeves. Now I am a Matte Dragon Sleeves person. And you will be too. Every 100 card, double-sleeved commander-deck shuffle is like sifting your fingers through clouds while wearing silk gloves. And the clouds are also wearing silk gloves. 5Good job Amazon for having better customer service than the product company! This is more of a review of amazon itself and a bad experience turned good. I absolutely love dragon shield sleeves, I own 8 different colors by them. This particular box was very messed up. Every sleeve was different in size, either taller or shorter than the rest and different widths. It really wasn't noticeable until you put them in a deck box. So when I did some sleeves were so wide that the would not fit in the deck box. I emailed dragon shield about this and basically I was told that you get 2-3 extra sleeves in the box, so that should fix the problem. Well that doesn't help if EVERY sleeve is messed up! I contacted Amazon and they sent me a replacement which I got next day. I have never had this problem before but I very disappointed in dragon shield's customer service. Amazon gets 5/5 stars! 2Dragon Shield makes great sleeves. These are no exceptionDragon Shield makes great sleeves. These are no exception. Sleeves are a dark grey. Look great on my mono-black commander deck. As always, they include slight more than 100 sleeves (103 in mine). 5High Quality Feel and ProtectionI have been playing card games for over 10 years now and previously only used Ultra Pro sleeves. Recently I was looking to purchase sleeves for a new deck and the comic book store I was at only sold Ultra Pro in packs of 50, when most standard sized gaming cards are used in decks of 60 cards. He offered Dragon Shield as an alternative since they came in packs of 100 and said that he had heard good things from other players. I purchased them to try them out and was surprised by the quality of this product. The sleeves are extremely high quality, on par with Ultra Pro and maybe even surpassing them. They are easy to shuffle and I have now purchased two different colors and both have the same high quality feel and protection. The matte colors are slightly easier to shuffle than the standard sleeves, however, both have a nice feel about them. Standard sized card games fit in these perfectly, but smaller cards such as Yu-Gi-Oh! will have a lot of space in the sleeve. Another great thing is that they come in packs of 100, which is enough for a full deck and side deck in the most popular TCG on the market right now. 5Fit varies materially by colorI had never sleeved cards before, but saw someone with sleeves at PAX West and thought it was a great idea. So I bought a bunch of Dragons in different colors based on the overall glowing reviews of Dragons in general. My experience is meh.Oddly there seems to be a material fit difference by color. Here is my exeprience.Greens = loosest fit, very easy to double sleeveBlacks = slightly tighter than the Greens, but still double sleevable, just a bit more workReds = slightly tighter than Blacks, but only marginally, fit of perfect fit inner sleeve has to be just rightClears, Whites = similar to BlacksBlues = so tight that double sleeving is a chore, I would not put these on good cards you really care aboutIt seems odd to me that color could make any difference at all for fit, so perhaps I just got a bad batch of Blues or a random assortment of varying quality boxes. Either way, there is too much inconsistency with these cards to warrant the high stars. I would give them a 3 at best for fit alone. At first I thought it was the perfect fit inner sleeves or the cards themselves, which obviously does have some impact, but I tried the same card with the same inner sleeve on all the colors. Overall I sleeved close to 900 cards. 2
