Customer Reviews

Great 2 player (and up) gameMy wife and I don't have any kids, and when we get bored, we like to play board games. There aren't too many 2-player games out there, and the ones like Monopoly can be extremely competitive, which kind of ruins the atmosphere for one person. Hoopla takes a creative stab at the 2-player genre by introducing the time element that ALL players are playing against. Equally helpful (many times) is the fact that all the cards have some sort of graphical depiction of the thing the team needs to guess. This comes in handy when an item isn't extremely well known. My sister-in-law had to draw the picture on the card of the San Andreas Fault, and had no idea what it was. Same thing with Silicon Valley. . .let's just say she's no rocket scientist, but she IS going to be a teacher this fall.Anywayz, this game is very good at what it aims for. The only downfall is that the game is somewhat similar to other Cranium games. We bought Pop-5 and it is somewhat similar. We also have the original Cranium game and it is also somewhat similar. It puts just enough spin on the Cranium game format that it is worth the purchase. 4It brings the extrovert out of everyoneHoopla is the best game to play with your drunk friends. The best part about Hoopla is if you were shy before you started, you're definitely not shy by the end of the night. It brings the extrovert out of everyone. 5The best collaborative game I've seenHere are 10 reasons Hoopla is one of my favorite "board" games:1) it doesn't require a board, so you can be more flexible about where you play it2) it doesn't involve teams of two so you can play it with many combinations of people3) since it's a collaborative game where everyone works on getting the answer each round, there's no time to get bored or wait becuase you are engaged the whole time!4) it uses the most fun elements of Cranium (doodling, doing word games, charades with sounds)5) it's incredibly simple to teach and learn6) it lacks an annoying buzzer7) it's kept in a small package that's easy to take to friends' houses8) the cards have cool photographs9) the topics are generally universal to most people although some are giong to be harder for younger people10) you can play it with just two peopleThe only reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating is that after playing it a bunch I've noticed that one of the 5 topics (i forget the name; it's the one where you say "bigger than x, smaller than x") is slightly annoying after a while....other than that, though, it's a really wonderful game, definitely in my top 3 for board games because it's so easy to play/teach and you can be flexible with the number of people! Cranium is an amazing company, I love seeing what they come out with. I'd be surprised to read that someone was unhappy with this (but then again i haven't read any reviews yet). 4We enjoy this game with mixed groups because everyone can be ...We enjoy this game with mixed groups because everyone can be on the same "team" vs. being competitive. Everyone participates and no one loses. You can also make your own expansion cards if you so choose. 5it's so much fun, and it's cooperative so everyone works together to ...This game is a blast! 3 people or more, it's so much fun, and it's cooperative so everyone works together to beat the clock. You either all win, or all lose. 5Five StarsI love this game and was so happy to find it at a reasonable price. 5Fun, fast-paced gameFun, fast-paced game! Similar to Cranium but different enough to stand on its own - plus it's perfect for two players. We love it.I took off a star because my box was missing the pencil. Not a big deal, but it should come with what's advertised. Also, the buzzer upsets my dog, so we have hug and pet her throughout the game. Just an added challenge! 4FunYou play as a group so it's to competitive. If you NEED person to person competition, this is NOT the game for you. If you like fun, group games but don't particularly care about feeling competitive, this is TOTALLY for you! 5TOP favorite game of all time!Hoopla is AWESOME! We highly recommend it. As long as you can read you will love this game. Tons of fun in a race against the timer that everyone is in a race to beat instead of each other. Get rid of your cards before the buzzer! 5Very Entertaining & Promotes CreativityThis is definitely not a game for little kids. It's very challenging & is probably best suited for anyone 14+ yrs of age. My boyfriend & I love this game (we're both 27 & 28 yrs old) and still, at our age, get stumped with some of the pictures the game has us portray, either through charades, drawing, or using verbal clues. It's a lot like Cranium but instead of one winner, everyone wins ONLY if everyone gets through all their cards within 15 minutes (timer is only used while clues are being given, not in between turns.)This game is not only very entertaining, it's mentally challenging, and I'd go so far as to say it probably helps improve your creativity and communication skills because it forces you to communicate in ways you aren't used to. 5
