Even better than printed SudokuMy wife plays this almost every day and loves it even more than doing the printed Sudoku one finds in the newspapers. For reasons I cannot understand, she says it is easier to solve the puzzles with colors than it is with the numbers. One word of caution: the colors printed on the cards that give the start of each game are not clear. Easy to confuse the purple with the pink, etc. and start the game with the wrong balls in place. But if you translate the printed numbered games we find in the daily paper into colors to be used with this board game, it is great, challenging, fun. Our grandchildren are starting to play, as well, and I'm sure it is good to help them develop mental skills. 5Beautiful, challenging, and funI got this for my father as an entertaining way of giving his brain a workout. He's been very pleased with it, and my niece and nephew, ages 13 and 10, loved it. The only problem was that they found most of the provided cards too easy, but there's a harder expansion pack that would probably fix that.I'm impressed by how attractive the board and marbles are. My only suggestion has to do with convenience. The game comes with the cards in small bunches and a collapsed box to hold them, but the game's box is too shallow to close with the full pack of cards on top of the game. I guess the card box is useful if you're leaving the game out with the cards next to it, but it's useless for packing the game plus cards up. 5Oudata:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAADIAAABYCAYAAAC3UKSNAAAgAElEQVR4Xi2cB5RdVdn3f/v0cvuUTGZCOr1YaQpKUr favorite gamecolorku reviewJDB 4-4-15We purchased this game a year and a half ago and it has been without a doubt the favorite game my wife and I like to play together. She has always enjoyed the numeric version one sees in books and newspapers, but I was not attracted to working with numbers. But the Colorku board is a different matter. First, It involves colors, not numbers, which I find more appealing. Second, it is in a board version, where the colored balls can be put down and moved around. It is shareable format where more than one person can be work on in a puzzle together. We ve had the Colorku board and balls on our breakfast table for a long time now, and we immensely enjoy solving the puzzles together. Particularly with difficult puzzles, we feel a rush when we manage to ferret out a ball placement that breaks the puzzle, after which the remaining ball placements are more and more straightforward until the puzzle is solved. We ve purchased all three sets of puzzle cards, though the easy set is a little too easy for us. We have, incidentally, found a couple of games that had double solutions. Since there is no single solution, they cannot be solved logically. We found the difficulty ratings for puzzles variable: sometimes we could do harder rated ones, but were stumped by puzzles with lower ratings. We are now at level 65 in the hard deck and are solving most of them. We still get the high of having cracked a difficult puzzle! We are developing a vocabulary of the game: we call a single ball location a cell, a 3x3 division a square, and a line of 9 cells a row. We have developed a number of strategies for determining colors of cells. We looking for triples (a single color pattern across three squares), colors needed for row completion, the constraints on where a particular color can be placed in a square, and seek bound pairs and triples. A bound pair is two cells, each able to contain only one of the same two colors. Similarly, we look for bound triples, or three cells, each able to contain only the same three colors. Identifying bound squares and triples doesn t necessarily solve, in the sense of being able to put a particular ball in a particular cell, but it adds constraints to the puzzle which may make it possible to solve cells in affected rows and squares. To help our analysis, I designed and 3d printed double- and triple-cell shapes which can be placed on the game. Colored balls can sit on these shapes, and it indicates that the color is not specifically located, but can be in one of two, or three, spaces. A bit like quantum particles which exist in two spaces for a while. We have found this method to be quite helpful. Should someone be interested in printing these, I can post the .stl files on Thingiverse. We have yet to tire of colorku, and continue to love the time together, the mental stimulation, and the rush of completion. We do worry that the supply of puzzles is limited to three packs. The game designers map the nine colors to the numbers 1-9, so it is possible to take a numerical game and translate it to a colorku game. This, however, is a bother. It would be great if the designers would come out with more puzzles, or possibly some program or app that would take numeric Sudoku puzzles and print out color puzzles/solutions. 5Big flaw for me.Very attractive game, but the game has a major flaw for me. Since all the same colored pieces are exactly the same, there's no way to know (without constantly referring to the original puzzle) which are the pieces of that particular puzzle that cannot be moved. I found this very frustrating. If anyone has any ideas to over come this flaw or a strategy, please let me know! Constantly referring to the puzzle booklet is very cumbersome. Otherwise, it's an aesthetically beautiful game. 3Very good game for the right personWe all know some people are much more artistic, while others may be a lot more logical. It depends on which side of your brain is more dominant. The beauty of this game is it uses both sides of your brain. It uses the right brain for the colors, and it uses the left brain for the analysis. My daughter is very much into colors and she does not like numbers and math, but she loves this game, and what s man at least an hour a day with me just to solve the puzzles. The game is completely worth it, and I recommended for any young children. I notice that my oldest son, 12 years old, is not that interested in the game itself, even though he is very good in numbers and math. 5Beautiful board and piecesBeautiful board and pieces. Comes with perforated sheets of game cards with all the challenges and a box to hold them. You have to tear them apart which is easy, but would have been nice had they come already done. Also, as other reviewers mentioned, there is nothing to hold the little colored balls. I had a vintage wooden servicing dish with 3 compartments, so we are using that, but you'll need to figure out something to put the pieces in so they don't roll away. Game is fantastic though - takes a bit of time to make the mental switch between numbers and colors, but seems better once your brain makes the switch - very visual! Also comes with a translation card if you want to use if for the sudoku from he newspaper. Overall great game. 5High quality! High value! High interest! We purchased this game thanks to the recommendation of a trusted friend and colleague that thought it would be a good purchase for my grandmother who has been recovering from a stroke. It has quickly become a favorite of our family! We are not typically the board game type, but this game is THE BEST! It is a great game to leave set up and add a little bit to each time you walk by. It is also a great game to play for an entire afternoon! It has made me see an incredible strength in my 7 year old son who I feared had lost the visual spacial and sequencing skills due to his exposure to technology. Your game reminds me of the genius that he is!The quality of the materials are incredible and the value of the game as compared to others is very high.If you are reading this review just click add to cart! You won't regret it! 5Nice, but not the best fit storage and longevityNicely made. It's pretty. You can easily mess up your game by accidentally hitting marbles and knocking thein into the wrong space, and there is the issue of tiny pieces rolling away and getting lost forever. Pegs would have worked better.Once you separate all of the game cards and put them in their organization box, then the game board and cards no longer fit in the box together. It's a cute variation on the sudoku theme, but it is a little annoying to have to constantly remember the colors in the color set instead of just numbers, honestly. Colored pieces with numbers would be ideal. 4Extremely Fun; Ridiculously Addicting; Great QualityMy mother-in-law bought this for my brother-in-law for his birthday in June and gave it to him at a family reunion. It was probably one of the most popular indoor activities during those four days! Everyone wanted to play. I bought it for our family for Christmas and will never regret it. Even my 6-year-old loves figuring out where the colors go--it's an educational experience that's also really fun! This game is high quality, made with solid wood and pieces that won't chip or flake easily. It's actually quite beautiful and will last a long time. Definitely good value for the money and you'll get your money's worth out of this game, that's for sure--it's not just a one-person game; the whole family can play at the same time, working together to solve the puzzle. If you get tired of the large deck of starter set-ups that comes with it, you can buy expansion packs with additional starter cards. The only negative thing I have to say about this game (besides that I hate putting it away because I love playing it so much) is that the box was not designed as well as it could have been to hold the board, the marbles, and the starter cards. But it still all fits and it's not a big problem, just a little disappointing and surprising that a game of this quality wouldn't have a box that contained all the pieces in a more logical, efficient fashion. You definitely won't regret buying this--promise! 5In love!I love sukoku games and this one is a great addition to our game room. It is a gift for my junior high daughter and we opened it together, set up puzzel 1 and then started solving it. The rest of the family came in to see what we were up to and by the end of the puzzle everyone, including my mother who is visiting, was enjoying the colorku and helping solve it. Nice wooden board, colorku pieces are standard marble size if we ever lost pieces, comes with a plastic cover so when you unpack the game you can flip it over and the beads will stay in the plastic container till you need them, and then a lot of puzzel cards ranging in different levels.Im very impressed and will probably send this to my niece for her birthday! 5
