Customer Reviews

bubblyI ordered these dice for my Boyfriend because his Cthulhu, Polyhedral 7-Die Set was very diffcult for him to read and the d20 rolled 4's all the time. I wanted to find a set that was easy to read and appealing. We are very happy with this new set, even though he didnt know they were translucent till they arrived. They roll pretty well, and we play in pretty decent lighting so reading them isnt an issue. It looks like there are several air bubbles inside the d20, im not sure if they are supposed to be like that, but we are still happy with the dice. 4Chessex is overpriced bubble filled imbalanced trashBubbles bubbles everywhere. I actually took the time to photograph my wretched bubble filled d20 and contact Chessex for a replacement. Ironically, the replacement d20 arrived and it too was so full of bubbles as to be illegible. Now folks, it's time to admit to ourselves that things have changed. Gone are the days of buying immaculate dice at high prices from Chessex. The quality is gone in favor of high priced trash. Now it only makes sense to purchase wizdice by the pound from China. You'll get around fifteen complete sets for around a dollar each. The quality is better the price is a fraction. Chessex has no product anymore. 1Ok. Bubbles though.Dice look ok, but They have some bubbles. I expected better quality from a name brand like Chessex. I would have purchased a cheaper generic brand if I'd known these would have bubbles. They seem like they roll random, so they will get used a lot I'm sure. But, next time I'll probably buy a generic brand instead. 3Good old fashioned random number generatorsIt's hard to write a review for dice: they are basically chunks of plastic with no special functions. That said, Chessex are the best dice I've used for Table Top Gaming. They have good quality, well defined numbers, and seem to be evenly weighted meaning fair dice rolls. This Red/White set is nice because the contrast of the numbers make them easy to read, unlike some dice sets like Chessex's clear die/white lettering. 4Great value!Good set for a good price. Only issue is that the white is not consistent on all numbers. 5It's All About AppearanceI'm familiar (too familiar according to my spouse) with Chessex dice. Thus, there were no surprises. I got these dice to "accessorize" a new dice bag that has a large red eye on it (that too came from Amazon. It's pretty cool).Like: good color, readily readable.Dislike: As usual, they seem to nourish a generous profit margin.Detest: The polystyrene case would lose a battle with a ripple chip. But being the dice are headed for a dragon's eye pouch, I don't need to nursemaid the carn sarn fragile box. 4Very nice set of diceConsidering the low price of these dice. I wasn't really sure these could be my main set of dice. However, they looked good in pictures and I'm a sucker for great looking dice.I've been pleasantly surprised at how much I really like them.I examined each of them closely when they arrived, looking for any sign of imperfection. They look and feel great. No imprint misalignment of numbers, edges were clean, and the numbers are easy to see in normal light. If I have one complaint about them, it would be that it is fairly hard to tell they are translucent without holding it up to the light. However, I feel it's because of the smoky color more then anything else. I think it would be unfair to knock off a * for it.With all that being said, the most important aspect would obviously be how well they roll. They have all been excellent in the randomness of the numbers. In gaming with them and killing time, I've yet to see any sort of pattern appear.Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase and I will be buying the other similar dice from Chessex, based off of this set. 5Opaques are imbalanced and the translucent dice have bubbles!I have bought 3 sets of Chessex dice prior to these 2 sets of translucent smoke dice with red numbers. I became interested in translucent dice ever since seeing videos about imbalanced opaque dice that don't roll true. I bought 1 set and returned it because 4 out of 7 of the dice had bubbles. The D20 had the most bubbles. I bought another set from a different seller, hoping for an improvement, and it too came with bubbles with the D20 being the worst yet again. I'm sorry Chessex, but I can no longer trust your quality control. I hope that they will improve in the future, but until then I will buy other brands. 2what happened to quality control? This 7-piece Chessex polyhedral dice set was purchased in early 2013, and it's made in England. Some dice have the paint applied sloppily in the numbers, as well as some paint smears - see my pics. Though some (such as my d10) are perfect. A more serious problem is that two faces on my d20 dice are so non-flat (convex) that it wobbles on those faces rather than sitting firmly...this will definitely be a problem for generating random rolls. In comparison, all the dice in my 10-year-old German-made 7-piece Chessex set (clear color with frosted surface finish) are perfect. The plastic container is hard to open, and the fragile edges are prone to cracking while removing the lid...but my rating is based on the dice only, not the packaging. It's a shame because the color combination of ruby red with white numbers is beautiful, and because my other Chessex dice set is perfect. 1BubblesUpdate: She likes the look of the dice and decided to keep them, however I still am not changing the star rating. Because bubbles are bubbles - this is why I like to buy translucent dice so I can see.Small-medium sized bubbles in the d20. In my test it doesn't seem to effect the roll much but since it's a present, I will let her decide if she wants to keep them when I show them to her at our weekly D&D game on Sunday. But slightly disappointed as it's a present.Even though they are translucent they are still a dark translucent color and my phones camera is having a hard time with getting a picture of the bubbles. 3
