    Scuffed & ChippedI'm giving these two stars because the color is gorgeous, and that's the number of dice that arrived without flaw. Five out of the seven are chipped or scuffed in various places, and because the chips are white, they stand out against the dark purple. In addition, some of the numbers are poorly painted. When I pay extra for flashy, pretty dice, it's important to me that they arrive in good shape. I'm definitely disappointed. If you are lucky enough to get an unblemished set, these would be wonderful. But when five of seven are messed up, well, I don't think the odds are in your favor. 2Gorgeous dice but 4 out of 7 of mine came damaged.I would've rated this product as a 3-star but I added 1-star for Amazon's customer service since they were quick to address my problem with the item I received.First of all, this dice set is gorgeous. You can see it in the pictures but its nothing compared to seeing it in person. The only reason why I wanted to rate this as a 3-star was because of its less than stellar quality. 4 out of 7 of my dice came in damaged with nicks on the sides as if someone had thrown the dice against a wall or something. Maybe I could look past it but the nicked parts are so obvious because they're in a white plastic color and it really bothers me whenever I see it.I still recommend this item since it still does the job but be aware its a hit or miss and that you might get a set that's less than perfect like mine and if that bothers you, then I suggest purchasing elsewhere. 4"Those dice are really girly..."I got these because I demanded I have my own dice set for playing Dungeons & Dragons, rather than borrow them from my friends. I like everything to match and that's really hard to do when my friends have a huge ziplock bag full of random dice. I figured if I was going to have a night of rolling mostly natural 1's, I might as well do it with my own dice. After cruising through the many options available to me online, I decided on these. I received them within the week and was eager to give them a good roll. After reading the other reviews, I wanted to take them into a patch of sunlight and see how they look. They really are very pretty and although my boyfriend told me they're "girly dice", he could still appreciate the brilliance of the colors.Let me tell you, since acquiring this set, I have been rolling an unreasonable amount of natural 20's. I now like to suggest my character do ridiculous things only to force the DM to oblige. I'm convinced that the dice are powered by magic faeries and has nothing to do with chance. Nothing.Get these dice. They're magical. 5Avoid the Royal Purple Borealis dice.Trying to be fair here:I am so disappointed to have to mark these down and to not recommend them. They are very beautiful, but 5 out of 7 have a glaring sprue mark on them.I contacted Chessex upon receiving the dice and asked if I could get a replacement, but according to the representative I spoke with, this particular color (Royal Purple/Gold Borealis) shows the sprue marks the most, and the replacement dice would have the same issue. The reason she gave is that Chessex does not tumble the dice very long in order to retain a sharper edge on each facet.I also ordered a Wiz Dice Cup of Plenty for roughly a dollar more that arrived at the same time as these Chessex dice.The Cup of Plenty comes with five complete sets of 7 dice, and none of those dice have flaws. I cannot see much of a difference on the edges. There is really no perceptible difference in the weight of the dice between the brands. The Wiz Dice appear slightly larger (1 or 2 mm).I do like the color of the Purple Borealis dice and will be holding onto them to see how they do. I probably won t be buying any more Chessex though, at least not of this variety. 2Beautiful enough to buy multiple sets!Beautiful dice, definitely look at the customer review photos. In direct light, they appear more like a translucent lavender set. Most of the time, however, they appear like a beautiful purple galaxy with shimmering stars, a royal purple with glitter inside to give them a little pizzaz. They quickly became my favorite set of dice, and the next thing I knew I had 4 of this exact set in my collection.(You may notice some small white marks when you first get them, and those are mold marks from manufacturing. They've become less noticeable the more I use the dice.) 5Chessex Borealis Dice SetI did a lot of searching to find "the perfect" set of dice. I wanted a set that is good quality as well as nice to look at, and I definitely found that with this set! I've only ever owned Chessex dice, so I'm familiar with their quality. The photos really don't do this set justice. They are purple with blue/teal glitter close to the surface, but if you hold them up to the light, they're a light translucent purple...they're really lovely! Everyone was ooh-ing and aah-ing over my dice at my weekly game. They roll really well too, which is always good when you have a DM who takes no prisoners! I'm really glad I got this set! 5Am a little disappointed with this setAm a little disappointed with this set. I fell in love with the deep purple color with the abundant sparkles, but when I got the set only 2 of the 7 dice looked that way. The other 5 were much lighter in color with far fewer sparkles. I feel as though I got dice from two different batches. At the same time I had ordered a set of 6 d6 of the same color scheme that were all beautiful and just as described, and the difference between the those d6 and the d6 in this set was stark when they are put together. 3Would happily give full stars except that my set has a ...These dice are INSANELY GORGEOUS - the picture does not do them justice at all. Would happily give full stars except that my set has a LOT of blemishes. Numbers not painted well, white scuffs... it's pretty bad. The only dice free of these at all is the d12 (the one dice I never seem to use). I would LOVE to contact the seller somehow to see if this could be rectified, because a pure set would be *so* beautiful.EDIT: I contacted Chessex and they responded quickly; apparently the scuffs are mold marks (they provided pictures to show that all of the borealis and translucent dice have them). Oh well. Added two stars because of good customer service, not full because of the marks though. 4Great!Some of these reviewers are being too picky.... a lot of chessex dice have a few of the white marks here and there from manufacturing but they are really not that noticeable, I don't even notice them at all on my pink borealis set. When you order online you dont get the benefit of picking and choosing each die like you would in store. The marks are NOT chips/scuffs and do not affect how the dice roll. I am very satisfied with the set I received. The only reason I docked it a star is because the white marks are on every die I received in this batch (just one per die) and there's a little bit of paint mishap on the D12, but overall I love them. I did notice they were a bit smaller and more rounded than my other chessex dice but they are still balanced and roll just as well. 4Beautiful and FunctionalThese dice are stunning to look at and feature the Chessex quality I expected.The dice are weighted nicely and are gorgeous, catching light and glowing purple with blue sparkles. The d4 is a little lighter in color, but I believe it s because the plastic is thinner.As noted by other reviewers, the stock photo color is a bit off. Expect these to be a warm purple color and not as dark, and keep in mind that there s streaks of fine blue glitter throughout. Additionally, there are small opaque white portions on some of the edges of the dice where the plastic was injected into the mold. They are not damaged, it s simply due to the translucent nature of the dice. The spots are small, and I had to search to find them. The paint application for the numbers is clean and the gold color complements the other colors nicely.I highly recommend these beautiful dice. My girlfriend ordered the same dice in blue so I will review those when they arrive. 5
