Characterized by the adhesive grips on its fingers and toes, the small tree frog is able to climb and cling to smooth surfaces. The mating call of the tree frog is a very loud, rhythmic . ape. ape\' which can be heard from afar. The tree frog is at home in a richly textured landscape, favoring meadows and pastures dotted with small pools, bushes and hedges. Its original habitat was warm wetlands. Its spawning grounds are ponds, pools, tarns, backwaters, and occasionally larger lakes. Waters that are fully exposed to the sun and fish free are preferred. From early spring, from the end of February, the first tree frogs seek out their ideal waters, which will later also become their spawning waters if they satisfy requirements. The reproductive phase only begins with higher temperatures from the end of April with the main spawning period in may and June.
