Customer Reviews

Outstanding Kite!! Great Flying Dragon - Needs Adult SupervisionBought this kite, along with 500 feet of 50# kite line for our annual trip to Ocean City New Jersey. The dragon kite kit comes with it's own kite line, wound onto a single "D ring" plastic handle, with a plastic hook on the end ~250 feet of 25# line). I recommend the stronger longer line, which comes with a metal swivel hook. You'll want the extra length and strenght, becasue this dragon just loves to fly! Assembly was very easy - first bend the wing supports to inset the plastic-tipped ends into the small pockets on the wings (there are two pockets on each wing, which allows you to position the wing supports depending on the strength of the wind). Then inset the carbon-fiber spreader rods into the center "T Connector" and bend the spreader rods to fit into the plastic tube connectors on each wing. Don't worry about breaking the rods, they'll take a bit of bending to get them properly in place, but that's needed to keep the wings properly stretched into place. The winspan is huge - about 6 feet, and the overall height of this beautiful nylon dragon kite is also about 6 feet from tip to tail. Next you'll need to reach into the dragon's mouth (don't worry - she won't bite her master/mistress), and insert the end of the rod into the blue socket cap, the small white rod into the red socket cap and the small red rod into the red socket cap. These serve to stretch out the body amd hold your new pet's mouth wide open. Hook the kite line swivel hook onto the already pre-tied bridle loop (attached by six strings to the legs and body) and clip it closed and you are ready to put your new pet into the sky! Take it outside to a SAFE place well clear of electrical lines, cars, trees etc. Just before launch, remove the rubber bands from the streamers.on the wings - they help keep the kite stable and look cool too! Keep the rubber bands for wrappping the streamers back up when your dragon is tired of flying for the day.How does she fly? Launching in a strong wind (20- 25 mp - where a flag will be pretty much out perpendicular to the ground), is a breeze (pun fully intended) - the dragon kite is very stable and in a strong wind will not nose over at all. This kite looks awesome and flies like a dream - it was really stable (i.e. doesn't have much of a tendancy to "nose over" and plummet like a lawn dart into the earth). In a good wind it will pay out line very quickly, and before you know it, you'll have 500 feet of line completely payed out! A few little tugs on the line makes your sky-pet flap her wings convincingly, while a solid steady pull will cause her to gain altitude. Seriously, the kite flew GREAT at the beach, where the wind is strong, and it looks FABULOUS in a bright blue sky. At one point a single engine stunt plane flew by and I swear my dragon was only a coule hundred feet under the aircraft! So far I have taken "Safira" out for three flying experiences, one piloted by my 11 year old granddaughter. This isn't a kite for little kids, but rather for big kids like me. My granddaughter had no problems at all self-launching it or flying it (of course I ended up brining it back iin :) Another treat was that in the strong ocean breeze, the kite remained aloft and stable through the entire recovery - never touched the ground - I had her in my hands as the swivel hook met the reel.I disassembled the wing spreaders and wing supports and folded up the wing streamers after use, but didn' need to take the mouth rods out in order to be ready to fly her again when next she needs to take to the air. Reassembly is easy enough, and this way she can be safe in the shipping box in the closet until then. I toss in the occasional left-over spare ribs to keep her well fed until our next outside excursion :)Seriously, this is a GREAT kite for an adult but not for a small child. It' really very large (6' x 6' approx and the streamers are about 12' long) so it needs a grown-up to supervise its use. It can easily self-launch in a stiff breeze, but needs some decent wind for best effect. It looks awesome in the sky, and is a real treat to fly. By far my favorite beach kite, and I've flown quite a few. Quality materials, well constructed, looks great, flies well and is stable stable stable in a good wind. A definite five star product in my book. I was very please with it in all aspects. Strongly recommend spending the extra $9 for the Premier Kites Stake Line Winder with 500' of 50# test line. Provides the assurance that your line won't part even in very windy conditions.Regards,Tom StevensonMontclair VA 5So coolWhen I was looking for a kite, my only criteria was to buy the biggest (but cheap) kite I could find. The wingspan of this big boy is wider than my queen-sized bed so be careful if tiny toddlers are flying this. This kite is pretty cool in the way that you can adjust the kite to fit the wind speed, plus it looks like you're flying a sweet freakin' dragon. I thought the discordant colors would look tacky and yeah, it depends on your taste but it can look like an eyesore (doesn't reduce the coolness factor of it being a dragon). I flew it in different wind speeds and it's definitely an "interesting" flyer. It can be unruly to fly if you don't learn how to control it and it can fly unexpectedly but you certainly won't be bored by this. The legs and mouth are 3d so they look way cool when it's in the air. It looks really graceful and does a lot of gliding when it's its not flying. This kite will glide in a breeze but will need much more wind to actually soar off. So far, one of my wires have poked through the wing and it's slightly slouching but it still flies normally - a little tape can fix it right up anyway. Overall, it's a cool and interesting kite that will make you stand out among all of your friends' puny diamond kites that could never be strong enough to lift a toddler lol 4Excellent Kite, Looks Amazing in Sky I just recently purchased this kite and took it out for a test flight. Assembling the kite was fairly straightforward--though getting the rigid support beams in place is an exercise in terror since it feels like you're going to tear something. (Nothing tore.) The dragon does actually fly, and it is easily solo-launchable. It did handle a bit heavily once in the air; getting it past 30 feet of line took some persistence, but you get the hang of it.I've also uploaded some action pictures and video of the assembly to give you any idea of size, and some flight footage (skip to the end of the video if that's what you want to see). 5Outstanding kiteI bought this for my girlfriend. We took it to the beach and flew it for about 30 minutes. The kite went together very easily, although you might feel like you're going to break it getting some of the rods into their fittings. Don't worry, just bend the rods a bit more than you're comfortable doing; and it goes together in a jiffy. The kite flew well the first time (OK, the second time, since my girlfriend didn't understand how to hold it for launch the first time). It does require a bit of wind to stay aloft. 7-8 mph should be the lower end of what it takes. And I'd recommend letting out as much of the cord as possible as quickly as possible in marginal conditions (wind is usually stronger higher). But it looks beautiful with the light shinning through the wings, and you will definitely get everyone's attention. The build quality seems very good, although it really doesn't look much like the picture. Its head is very three dimensional (think Chinese dragon puppet) with internal rods that hold the mouth open, and plastic eyes with pupils. And it doesn't rear up as in the pic, rather its body is straight, with a streamer trailing from the tip of each wing. Overall, i can't say enough about this kite. It disassembles as quickly as it goes together, and should be loads of fun for anyone. 5It's awesome. He even has little teeth and toenailsThe stock photos don't do this kite justice at all. It's awesome. He even has little teeth and toenails. I think those are super details for a kite. It's easy to put together and easy to fly. It looks neat in the sky and all the kids at the park loved it when I took it out for the first time! 5I like the kite design, but...Kite is cool, but was received defective. I didn't know until now because this previous weekend was my first chance to take it out and try it. First: one spreader rod was *missing* (the other was *glued* in and the pocket for this one had *no trace of glue* on it, so it was likely left off at the factory from that evidence, or the glue was left off and the rod never made it into the package). I took it to a kite shop and paid $5 cash to have a rod cut and capped and glued into the pocket. I went out the 2nd day and assembled it now for the first time was able to put it together! When i got ready to fly it I noticed that there was only one wingtip streamer! I tied the end of the one streamer so it was attached to both wing tips (forming a U in flight) in order to balance the drag, then noticed that one of the hind legs was not tied to a line, so I found the loose line and tied the leg and adjusted for balance. It flies nice with the right amount of wind, but there were WAY too many defects in workmanship and missing bits that I had to repair/replace at my own cost. Of course by the time we got home from the trip to the beach, it was past the deadline for returns and I was unable to find a way to contact the vendor so I must put a negative review up instead. I would prefer to have the vendor just make this right, but without a way to contact them this must be the result. 1I'm the Mother of Dragons with this KiteWe love this dragon kite. It was no more expensive than other less elaborate kites, and it flies and flies well. It looks great up in the air or close at hand. Although it has crashed a few times, it survived all crashes with flying colors. My husband loves calling me "The Mother of Dragons" when I fly it. You won't be disappointed by this kite. 5great kiteI fly kites off cruise ships, now that I'm too old to play Hockey, etc. With a Senator 9 series reel and a Senator rod with 6000 feet of 100 # test braided Dacron, this puppy will enter any nearby airport holding pattern. My brother tells me you're only young once, but you can be immature forever. I "resemble" that remark!!!!!!! 5Flys well, needs moderate to strong wind. This kite flys well in moderate to strong wind, and it looks really amazing in a "Game of Thrones" kind of way. It gets a lot of looks and compliments flying it at the beach. On the somewhat confusing side, the kite itself didn't completely match the instructions on the package. There were no additional poles to stretch the wings as stated in the instructions. It looks as though they possibly redesigned the kite to eliminate a couple poles after they put the instructions on the package. 4Check for parts! The kite looks amazing and is pretty well constructed. Unfortunately mine came missing one of the support rods (as the one on the other side was glued in place, I suspect this one was supposed to be, too, which means it didn't fall out of the package, but rather was missed during construction). This is not a fun thing to learn when opening it up on the beach with the person you gave it to.Based on how it (barely) flew with that part missing, I think it would be decent with good wind, but not really a low-wind kite. 3
