I think this design is superior to many others because it doesn't need to hold water to sink, thus it doesn't get funky inside and later make a mess in the garage. Inexpensive and they've survived at least a dozen pool parties so far. They dont appear to be fading at all despite the summer sun, and I may get another set as my daughter continues to work on her diving and swimming. 5PRETTY COOLI got the large underwater glider Sting Ray this week and have used it for two days and have three reactions. First, the packaging was extremely dirty and after opening, the actually stingray had fading paint and look used (it was not, it was sealed). Next, I could barely adjust the fins and the fins were super thin plastic so I was afraid of applying to much pressure and cracking them. Lastly, this was pretty cool and fun and worked great. I can't tell any difference from the fin adjustment, it just swims for 20-30 feet and makes it way to the top, whether climbing the side of the pool or shooting straight up. It works great underwater, is fun, and not difficult to use. Sometimes it just doesn't want to go the way you want it to or direction, so just turn around and it will work fine. My only complaint is it does seem a little pricey for the quality of the materials - this could easily be a $5 product especially since my was dirty and faded, but it works as advertised, is a lot of fun, and if you have a lot of kids i'm sure they will fight over who gets to use it first or chase after it to catch it first. 4Great!These are not the standard hard plastic rings but instead the soft rubbery kind; they are a pretty light and flexible. The inside of them are actually open/hollow all the way around (see pic), but it allows them to sink pretty well despite their weight and material. They move along the bottom of the pool easily but it's a nice challenge for my teenage kids to search for. The video shows me tossing the rings in the center of my pools (approx 5 feet deep). You can see they sink fairly quickly.Overall, I'm satisfied with the purchase. I was expecting them to be the hard plastic style but these work pretty well too. 5Not classic dive ringsClassic dive rings are hard plastic and stand up for easy grabbing. These rings are not classic at all - instead they feel and look cheap. They are flexible, thin plastic rings with a slit around the entire thing to let water in (and therefore sink because air trapped inside might make them float). They lay flat on the bottom of the pool UNLESS you leave in those foam package material stuffed inside the rings. They also have a small diameter which will make them harder to pick up especially if they lay flat at the bottom of the pool. I also am worried mold will grow inside the rings so maybe I have to sterilize them regularly which is more maintenance than I wanted in dive rings. Overall, this is not something I would have bought for any price if I saw it in person. BUT they do work if you leave the packaging material inside the rings and they are not going to cause the head trauma the old rings used to = P 4Better have plastic hippo...Pretty fun pool toy which my daughter and myself tried out in a large pool. The first day, we were unable to get the stingray to fly straight through the water no matter how we tried to bend or shift the wings. The toy just rose to the surface in a tight spiral. Almost gave up on it but decided to give it one more try the second day. This time we actually bent the plastic wings a bit, which was better but still could not get the stingray to fly straight. At wit s end, we had to try a desperate measure. Enter Frank, a small plastic hippo with a perpetual open mouth. Frank was rubber-banded to the top of the ray and after a few experimental runs with Frank in various positions? Success!!! The ray glided through the water, with just a slight curve, Frank riding on it s back, mouth open in ecstasy. Bottom line-pretty fun toy, but be prepared to fool with it for a while if you want it to fly straight. Unless you own a plastic hippo... 4Great toy!Bought this for my grand daughter. What a hit at the pool! I gave everyone information for purchase at the pool. And I'm purchasing more too! 5Mesmerizing to watch. Fun to play. This thing is so entertaining - for the kids AND the adults. Simply push it below the surface of the water and let go. The stingray will glide forward, make turns and even boomerang back on its way to the surface. The deeper you place it, the farther it travels. Sometimes it climbs the walls. Sometimes it jumps out of the water. It's mesmerizing to watch and fun to play.In my opinion, it's the stillness and flow of the water -- not the fins' positions -- that determine the stingray's direction of travel. The calmer the pool, the straighter it will glide. Move around a bit and the stingray may turn to follow you. (That maneuver always results in squeels of delight.)So far, this is the best "self-swimming" toy for the pool that we've purchased. A fun, yet inexpensive, gift for children. But better get two -- the adults aren't as good at sharing. :) 5Great for encouraging a newer swimmer. My son is 5 and just started formal swim lessons a few months ago. He was pretty nervous about being in the pool at first, but these really helped him become enthusiastic about swimming. The rings are in a set of 6 different colors. They sink pretty well, although you need to give them a few seconds to sink down because they're not very heavy. The colors are bright and easy to spot in the water. They're a great way to encourage kids to learn how to blow bubbles and put their heads below water, and also how to kick and dive downwards. I feel that they really helped him become more confident in the water because he saw it as a game. At first, he'd get one ring at a time - now he'll dive down and see if he can get all 6 at once. He also likes to share with the other kids at the pool so they all practice together. I highly recommend for any kid who is learning to swim and work on their water confidence. 5Big hit for my 2 and 5 year old!My kids recently completed ISR training and the instructor had one of these. This was the only thing that got my kids to happily cooperate throughout their lesson, as well as while the other was going, since he would let them play with it once the lessons were over. This stingray glider is awesome and swims so well. Take it to the bottom of the pool, let go, and awhile it goes. My kids were so sad when their lessons were over that they weren't going to be able to play with it that I decided to get one for our house. This has been a big hit on our pool every time we go swimming! 5Cool Pool ToyVery unique toy to add to the pool toy arsenal! It really works quite well. The design of the toy counteracts it's buoyancy causing it to go straight rather than float up. There are adjustments that can be made with the wings to make it respond differently, not very consistent results for me. 4
