Customer Reviews

I was dubious at first...but wow!I was looking to buy a few inexpensive kites to add to my collection and I saw this and the reviews seemed decent so I thought I'd give it a shot. When I opened the box, I was again a little dubious. The bag is not as pictured. It is made of the same material as the kite, so think paper thin nylon with a thin, thread-like drawstring. the bag was also smaller than I had pictured. The kite is almost exactly as pictured. Mine is a little more purple than the magenta pictured but it was close enough and I was pleased with how it looked. There were some small water spot-like marks on it where I assume some liquid came into contact with it during manufacturing. It's not a big deal and I suspect if I take a damp cloth to it, they will come off. It's not enough to make me want to send it back or even make me unhappy, just mentioning it out of thoroughness. There were no instructions with the kite. Again I was feeling doubtful. I've had airfoil kites before, so the number of spaghetti strings coming off it did not scare me, but they didn't give instructions on where to even attach the provided line. I tied a big loop in the end and used a lark's head knot above the last knot in the lines of the kite, but in future I will add a paracord loop to the end of the line for this kite because some kite string can cut other strings if they rub together so it's best to attach them with something thicker like paracord.Having attached the provided string to the lines and untying the tails and letting them go, I held it while the foils filled and let 'er go. The wind was not really strong, maybe 8mph at most on the ground, a little higher above the trees. I was STUNNED when this thing took off right away and flew perfectly. On this day we had brought 4 kites to the field and had no luck with the other 3 (one was a mechanical problem). They just didn't want to fly in those conditions. I think the wind was too light for them. This one flew perfect. I am not even kidding when I say I was stunned. After struggling with our other kites for over an hour, it was so much fun to just sit back and watch this one fly lazily just like it was meant to. It also pulled surprisingly hard if a small gust came along - which made it even more fun. This is a solid kite in the right conditions. For us, it was about 8 mph winds. This kite will be a staple of mine when I want to just fly a lazy kite, or one I can just tie off and let it do its thing.Cheap? I read a lot saying this kite is cheap junk. You get what you pay for. It's not an $80 kite. The material IS thin, but it's meant to be thin. If it was thicker it wouldn't perform as well. Fly it in reasonable conditions and the thin material it's made of won't be an issue. If you beat it up in high winds then I'm not sure how long it'll last. For me, I can see this kite lasting a long time for me because I take care of my things and know when to leave this one in the bag.The bag is okay. It's not great, but again this is an inexpensive kite. It's not going to come with a super fancy bag.The line provided is probably the weakest point. It worked, but I would like to use better line with this. I don't like the little handle things or cheap kite line. But again, it was EXACLTY what I expected given the price.Putting it away was another problem for me, the airfoil kites I have had have a loop to attach the mess of lines to so it doesn't get tangled. This one doesn't. just be careful not to let the many lines on the kite get tangled because that is a recipe for frustration. If you're on the fence on this one, I'd say for the price, give it a shot. If it doesn't fly well for you, try it in different conditions. I was VERY pleasantly surprised at how this kite flew for me and I am 100% glad I bought it. 5Best bang for your buck!I took this one out for the first time to a kite flying event. While everyone else was having trouble getting their kites up in the subtle on/off wind, this one took off without a problem and stayed up all day. It seems very well built and is big and light. I did upgrade the string to a 500' spool (90 lb), and doubled the line so it could go up to 1000'. Note - There were no instructions included to inform me that you must cut/remove the white nylon tag (with Chinese writing on it), to release all the brown strings (they all go through it and it pulls them off to the side of the kite). BE CAREFUL NOT TO CUT ANY STRINGS IN THIS PROCESS! Once released, the strings will center up to the Octopus and you can connect the line to where they're all tied together at the end. 5What a work out !It's big even taller than me I'm 5 feet ! It works excellent with the wind blowing hard and the kite flies in different directions. It's very light to carry. Lot of folding in it to put it back in the bag! That's how big it is ! Even ducks for scared of it they moved away ! My child likes it and pulls the kite too and laughs about it. Just tie the lines really nice and tight and double tie it again to secure it so u wont lose the octopus while flying it. Alot of arm and muscle pulls! 5Hopes DashedThe fantasy of flying this kite, as I submitted my order, was a lot more fulfilling than when we got it out and tried to get it in the air. SO many strings attached, all at different lengths...its hard for this to be a kits for the novice.I finally gave up trying to get all the lines from tangling and jammed it back into the sleeve. This kite is not for the faint and not for someone who is looking for simplicity. One day, I hope to get it up so I can see if the item's photo is real. 3A little challenging to set up, but flew and looked great!8/2017: Never got it into the air. It's so big and the lines so many, I needed a windless day to deal with it, but, of course, without lots of wind it would never make it into the air. I think it's a tangled mess now, after wrestling with it on a very windy day. Perhaps some day I'll set aside the time to take it out and see if there's an easy way to do the set up in order to be prepared to do the same on the needed windy day. It got it for a kiting event, but as for fun flying, I think I'd much prefer my stunt kite!8/30/2018 UPDATE: I had an opportunity to set this up on a low wind day, and the apparent entanglements were not as bad as I first thought when struggling with it on a very windy day. The tails and lines were moderately tangled but easily undone. Once I got everything sorted out, it was easy to launch singlehandedly. It even flew during a very low wind (around 2-3 mph) mass ascension event when many others could not get their soft kites into the air. The material is a very cheap nylon and the tails do fray from the wind, so be expecting that. But for the price, it was fun to fly and the purple against the gray sky looked great. Also, I was able to gently pull on the line which made the octopus eyes bulge in and out and "dance" in the sky to music. And regarding the COLOR, the actual color I received is more of a blue-purple rather than the violet purple pictured, and I like it much better. 5Space Octopus!! =)I LOVE THIS KITE! This is my second purchase of a parafoil kite (the other is a blue whale), and it's endless fun on windy summer days. And it's HUGE! The pictures don't really do it justice. For me, this is tons of kite for a great low price.Getting it flying is a little different from normal frame kites. We let out about 20 yards of slack. Someone holds the bottom strings in their hand in a bunch, and when the wind kicks up, he/she holds up the kite. The person at the other end then pulls the string taut, and ZOOM, the wind fills the kite and lifts it up. Make sure you keep pulling the kite string taut until the kite is high up, then let out string quickly so the wind can carry it up high.It takes a little bit of practice, but you'll see how it works once you get out there and give it a shot. And once it's aloft, it is FANTASTIC. Each time we fly it people ask us where we got it, and more often than not, people and their kids will gather around to watch her soar =)Note: the string that comes with it is standard quality, and it isn't anything to write home about. We've had it break on us once. To power up your kite flying enjoyment, I advise you to google around and get some professional quality string and a good winder. I can't say any specific websites or companies here, but there are one or two that provide fantastic products and good prices, and they're happy to walk you through their products so you get exactly what you need. All in all, my family ADORES this kite, and we fly it every chance we get! =) 5Kite is deep purple and not fuchsia purpleI wanted another 3D kite; and this one look good for the price. First I thought that I'm going to receive this beautiful big fuchsia purple kite featured on photograph. It did stated purple; and purple is what I got, but very deep purple. The kite is fairly large. It has design problems. 3D chambers travel only through half a kite. The kite is flat in the back half, making it harder to fill with wind. Also there are many many lines connected to the kite as seen on my picture. This makes it tangle and unable to fill with wind. And each time I needed to reopen the chambers to fill with wind in order to fly. I also found that I needed to give it several sharp tugs to get it to properly open when lifted by the wind. I own another 3D kite dolphin/whale; and this one has just three strings attached to the kite making it easy to fill with wind and it unravels itself. Wish they did put this kind of design on this octopus. After just one flying the streamers already frayed inch and a half. Will need to seal them before next flying. It does look gorgeous in the wind. My son also enjoyed it flying. It came with a nice bag and kite line. Line looked fine. I did not fly with it, but used my own 50lbs line.Pretty kite. Star off is for different color, and another for tangling string problem. 3Big and easy to flyTried this out in about a ten mph wind, and it practically flew itself! Easiest-flying kite I own. Steady, lots of lift. Might be trouble in a high wind, but I haven't tried it in one yet. Some have complained about the strings tangling up when you fold for storage. That can be minimized by carefully gathering the strings up and fastening some twist-ties around them. You have to take the ties off to fly the kite, of course. It also helps if you use a larger container for storage than the bag that comes with it. I use a small laptop case that I happened to have, and it's perfect. The photos were taken on the day I tried it out. Even on a cloudy day like this, dodging snow flurries, the kite stood out in the sky. I was in my front yard, fairly close to the road, and drivers in cars going by would beep their horns and passengers would hold hands out the window with a thumbs-up. Really cool. 5and pretty soon, we had kids all around us wanting ...Got this for my kids, who have never flown a kite before. Thought that this would help get them out of the house and away from the gadgets. It sure did work! Setup was a breeze (no pun intended), although no instructions came with it. When you unfold the kite, you notice that the strings attached to the kite come together in a knot. I just tied the supplied string to the knot and crossed my fingers that it wouldn't break. Thankfully, the kite string provided is tough. Took the kids out and unfurled the kite, and it immediately took off. The look on the kids faces was priceless! They were both clamoring over each other to see who would fly it first. Despite there being only a gentle breeze, it took off and stayed up the whole time. We even used up all the string to the end. One other thing: it's definitely an attention grabber. We flew it out of the neighborhood kids park, and pretty soon, we had kids all around us wanting to fly it, with some taking pics on their phones (Personally, I don't see a reason why an 11 year old should have a cell phone, but that's another story). All in all, it was well worth the purchase. My 10 year old daughter now asks, 'Dad, if I finish my homework early, can we go fly the kite?' What, no XBox 1 or PS4 playing when you are done? Sounds fine by me!! :) 5This is a great freaking kite. I'm so totally impressed with this kite. It's HUGE. It flies easily in 8mph winds. It can be launched by a single person. In fact, this thing is so easy to get up and fly that my kid and I can take it to the park and enjoy all of our time actually flying a kite instead of trying to get it in the air. Excellent. 5
