LIFESAVERI'm trying to recycle a couple huge stacks of magazines into small beads and got to playing with this today. I made a palmful of beads in the time it's been taking to make one. I was nervous the stringing hole might be too small, and while you aren't stringing these beads on any sort of yarn, they'll fit on elastic string, heavy thread, or fifty-pound fishing line, even split embroidery thread. Super-intuitive; this would make an excellent after-school or school-holiday activity! 5WELL loved gift !!Bought this for my Granddaughter for Christmas & she is still busy here in the middle of February crafting away making jewelry.She absolutely loves this kit!! It s endless amounts of fun for her 5Okay, not greatI got this for teaching a paper beading class at an assisted living facility. It worked well for some of the old folks, but it still feels like you need three hands to operate it properly. The hole in the center of the bead is more oblong than round, and there is a little flap of paper inside. Once the beads are glazed, it makes it harder to string them.I prefer to use square toothpicks for rolling beads. The squareness helps to grab the paper more easily than round toothpicks, and it doesn't affect the shape of the finished bead like the bead roller does. You can order a big box of square toothpicks here on Amazon. 3Great for elementary age on upWe love it. I tested my 7 year-old's interest in paper beads by giving her an old knitting needle to use. She loved it, but got very frustrated trying to keep the tension on the paper. Enter this bead winder, and she is so happy with the results! It took about 4 beads for her to get the knack of starting them off. We didn't use the glue or dabber included, just a glue stick so there wouldn't be as much residue. She can take off the bead and glue it, or leave it in the winder so it doesn't unravel. I will be buying these for birthday gifts for her friends. 5SO EASY!I love this tool! I have rheumatoid arthritis and rolling the beads the old fashioned way with a tooth pick would make my hands cramp after while This tool really makes it easy and is fast too! I have read other reviews about some complaints and I have solutions for some of them. "Makes beads too small..." Use larger strips of paper, I have had no problems with bead sizes. "Glue builds up on tool and needs to be cleaned often..." I remove the bead before gluing and slide it on to a tooth pick, the push the pick in the lid of a Styrofoam container to make sure they dry with out sticking to anything. This will keep the tool clean. "Too hard for younger kids..." Try get it started for them then let them finish the beads. Also practice makes perfect, at first you don't succeed, try try again. 5Fun craft with the kiddosLot of packaging for a small item. Product works well. I enjoyed working with my 3 year old making beads. She could not complete independently. She enjoys glueing and rolling the beads. Overall I like the product. 4 stars because of the quality of product and wasteful packaging. 4Makes nice paper beads fast!I decided on this particular kit to try paper bead making after searching for a bead roller that wasn't over the top expensive. Also I wanted one that would be easy on the hands when rolling a large amount of beads. I ordered this kit, it comes with a glue dabber, a few sheets of bead patterns in color and the actual bead roller....and simple instructions. I made copies of templates for beads I found online and ran them off on my own decorative papers. I used a rotary cutter to cut the paper strips and placed them on the bead roller and rolled ....once the bead is rolled I took a glue stick and sealed the end to the body of the bead. I love this roller, its fast, saves a lot of wear and tear on your hands and so far I have made over 200 plain and patterned beads of all shapes, sizes and colors. Once strung they will be really nice looking. Making paper beads requires a couple of steps, so be prepared to put some work into it...running off the templates, copying to your papers, cutting the strips, rolling and sealing the beads, then a final coating of your choice of sealant to water proof them...in my case I used diluted Mod Podge. I highly recommend this bead roller. 5Great valueThis may have been designed for children, but I'm having a great time using it to make professional-looking beads. It only makes the one size, but I like that size. Adults with bead-making experience should have no trouble making nice beads with this tool. I put the tool on a water bottle, hold between my knees, use both hands for smooth rolling and use my own supplies to glue, harden and glaze. When I want to make different size/type beads, I use different tools. But this is one of the best values in jewelry making tools I've seen. 5Not GreatThis little item works, I'll give it that. But it is just as easy to cut your own paper and use a bamboo skewer to make the beads. Using the bead maker, the hole for stringing the bead is too small for anything but the finest line or thread. I bought it and after an afternoon of bead making, my grand daughter and I turned to bamboo skewers and put this tool back in the book and into the donation bin. 2Addictive! Fun for Kids and Adult CraftersI've never made paper beads before, but I wanted to try this before gifting it to my 9-yr-old niece. She tends to be somewhat hyperactive and gets bored easily, especially when something new is too difficult. I found the tool to be built well and intuitive to use - no worries about maintaining tension on the paper with one hand while you crank with the other- there's a spring mechanism to do that for you. My husband woke up at 3am to find me still cranking away making beads because it was so much fun. As expected, it was a huge hit with my niece! She spent a good hour making beads once she was done playing with her other presents on Christmas Eve. Suggestion: If planning to give this to a younger child, you may want to cut up some additional paper ahead of time. That allows him/her to get started making beads right away without the need to do the part that many kids find boring. 5
