Customer Reviews

Pretty cool conversation piece as a finished piece of artThis puzzle was worthy of a full project for myself and my SO. It looked too cool to just put together, admire for a day or two, and then put back in the box. Also, we didn't have anywhere to just leave it laying fully assembled on a table somewhere. We decided to glue, mount and frame the whole thing! No pieces were missing, thankfully. We counted every one before starting on it. Once finished, we glued each puzzle layer's pieces together, mounted the bottom to foam core, added some magnets behind it, and had it professionally framed. The top layer is glued to a sheet of acrylic, with magnets glued to the back that match magnets glued to the back of the foam core. Not gonna go into all the details just now, but feel free to reply to this post if you'd like more info about what we did! 5Great puzzle, but haven't heard anything on missing pieceThe jigsaw part of the puzzle is pretty awesome, and challenging. I've never seen so many people complain about a puzzle's difficulty! May not be able to put together the same way you do normal puzzles. I starteted with the words on the map, then roads & rivers, then words in the sea, filled in from there, and finally did the edges.I would give this 5 stars, but there is a missing piece and I've contacted the company twice for a replacement piece but there has been no response at all! 3Better than I thought.Short and simple...we bought it and pieces were missing. Called amazon and they replaced it with no issue (super cool). New puzzle came almost perfect. All the pieces were there but some of the pieces the picture on the pieces were coming up and some were bent. All in all it came together really well. Only cursed at it a few times.****WARNING*****TRUE JIGSAW PUZZLE. Some pieces fit in multiple spots so be cautious. The foam doesnt sit flat and they bend very very easily. The flag holes srent big enough and it crushes the foam and creases the picture trying to get them in.The castles and keeps dont fit well either. You have maneuver them in carefully! 4Very cool overall product - bottom layer too tediousFirst off, I am a puzzle junkie since childhood, and as a GOT fan I was super-excited to try this. Everything in the package was neatly organized with a booklet included detailing and describing the different marked points and it gets way past the basic, known houses of the show. I subtracted a star because the bottom layer became incredibly tedious and in the end, boring. I love puzzles, but having the entire layer be 2-3 types of monotonous terrain means that you are just trying to fit different pieces together to make it work. - that isn't really the enjoyment I get out of puzzles. On the flip side, the top layer is probably a little too easy, but the end product looks really cool (I almost don't want to take it apart!), with the major sites covered with detailed models (Pyke, Dragonstone, Castle Black, etc.) but all of the minor houses/forts get more generic models to pop in. Nitpicky me would have liked the Water Gardens in Dorne and a model of Highgarden as well, but no biggie. I'm definitely game to try some of the other (well-rated) 4D cityscape puzzles - hopefully the bottom layers are less tedious. 4Moderately challenging but a ton of funThis puzzle really isn't THAT hard - I don't get all the complaining in the reviews. Mine thankfully included all the pieces. Took me one month working totally alone to finish it. Yes some of the regular puzzle pieces almost seem interchangeable. Look at them very carefully when putting it together. If the piece doesn't perfectly fit, it doesn't go there! Compare to the pieces around it making sure the top borders line up - this is a sure fire sign the pieces aren't meant to sit next to one another. Pay attention to the waves in the water and land features. I did have several pieces at the end which were out of place, but with some rearrangement and careful scrutiny of the other pieces I had it figured out. This just added to the complexity of the puzzle, but didn't make me want to pull my hair out. I found the bottom edge (below Dorne) to be the most confusing in this respect and had to redo it a few times before I got it right. If you find yourself getting confused just save that portion for the end, which is what I ended up doing. As far as the progression of the puzzle, I did the border first, followed by the wilds above the wall, then all the writing in the water, then any writing on the land portion, followed by rivers, the kings road, and the rest just fell into place. I'm so happy with my purchase and I would buy this again! I'm already looking at other puzzles by this company. I think middle earth is next! 5Very fun puzzle!I got this puzzle as a lightening deal for prime day and put it together a few months ago. So I would recommend if you can and want to wait for it to be less than $40.While putting the boarder together I was frustrated because I thought I was missing some pieces (usually a good first indicator on an incomplete puzzle, starting contacting amazon and everything) but it turned out there were just some similar pieces I had placed somewhere else. That, is the most frustrating part of this puzzle: there are a lot of dark blue pieces that look like they fit in one place but end up being incorrect when you get to the end, then you have to CLOSELY inspect the entire puzzle to find the slightly off piece(s).All in all this puzzle is very difficult and fun! I think it took me 3-4 dedicated days to put it together, some perspective I can usually put a 500 or 1000 piece puzzle together in 3-5 or 10 hours respectively. So this takes a while. The finished product is spectacular! I haven't taped or glued anything together at this point even though it would be a cool display piece. Which comes to my other "flaw": the 1st layer is very detailed with rivers, roads, and cities that are lost in the second layer to make room for terrain imaging (my assumption). Personally, I would have like to not lose so much detail in that layer, but the artwork and 3D structures you insert into the foam 2nd layer do kind of make up for it. 5Missing PiecesI bought this as a gift for my husband, who loves puzzles, maps and GoT. I thought I hit a home run with this Westeros Map Puzzle!Unfortunately after weeks of hard work he discovered his puzzle was incomplete. There were pieces missing. Two from the base puzzle and one piece from the foam top layer. Plus he had an extra piece that doesn't fit anywhere (someone else's missing piece!?)Who wants to frame an incomplete puzzle?? I contacted Amazon and got everything resolved satisfactorily, but it wasn't really their problem to begin with. It is (obviously) a manufacturer problem and I'm not the first reviewer to have a problem with missing pieces. (The box was sealed in the factory plastic when it arrived, the pieces were not lost in-transit).Overall this is a pretty awesome puzzle. My husband enjoyed putting it together. The lower level of "normal" pieces looks really nice, but the top foam layer does not lay flat on it's own (needs to be glued down), and the little plastic pieces are cute but very cheap and generic looking. Would have been nice to see more quality and detail in the buildings. If you are into puzzles, maps and GoT - you would probably enjoy this, but you should also be prepared to deal with the possibility of an incomplete puzzle or dealing with return/exchange when you discover missing pieces (5 stars for Amazon Customer Service). 2Finally finished this puzzle after working on it for A ...Finally finished this puzzle after working on it for A MONTH. And guess what. A huge chunk of the middle layer was missing from the package. All of the Riverlands was completely gone. I opened the sealed package of layer 2 and completed that layer in the same day, so the pieces didn't get knocked to the floor or otherwise mishandled or lost. They were just not in the package. Thumbs down. 1It's a puzzle! -- It isn't meant to be easy...I hadn't done a jigsaw puzzle for many years but this one looked too interesting to pass up. Several reviewers have complained about the difficulty of the base map layer and I feel their pain, but it is a "puzzle" and I thought it was perfect. You make mistakes that are not discovered until later (sometimes much later) when no remaining piece will fit a spot. My last mistake was not resolved until I was down to my last twenty pieces. I took the time to sort the pieces by colour and then sorted each colour by the number of "inies" and "outies" on each one. That helped me tremendously. My only complaint with this layer was with the size of the reference map included. You need a similarly coloured map for assistance, but the one included is too small. I had to use a magnifying glass with it constantly--"senior eyes". I finally found a map on the Internet and downloaded it for my iPad--it helped.I didn't care for the foam (second) layer much. I think it cheapens the puzzle. The pieces are very light and several of my outside areas would not sit flat. Thick boxboard would have been better. Some relief mapping would have been ideal but I don't know how that could be done while keeping costs reasonable. The castles and cities were fine, with pretty good detail. I found it odd that Harrenhal was smaller than most of the other castles, even though it is described by author Martin as the largest on Westeros. Perhaps the lack of physical map space between King's Landing and Riverrun meant it needed to be smaller.I don't know why the Manufacturer's Recommended Age is 13 - 15 years. Glad I didn't see that before I purchased it--maybe they figure you need young eyes to work with the small reference map they give you :-) [Edit: Just checked the box and it says ages 13 to 106, so I guess it is OK that I bought it]I will try to attach a few pictures of my completed puzzle. 4Expensive puzzle that surprises some with missing piecesIt's a great looking puzzle and challenging, that's for sure. However, after opening the box for the first time and inventorying everything (read reviews that this puzzle can be infamous for missing things) I found that I had been a lucky recipient of an incomplete puzzle. Once I finish, my map of Westeros will be covered with blank white banners and blank red shields that have nothing to say due to the missing stickers that go on them. 4Dcityscape's website has an online form to fill out for missing puzzle pieces, which I did right away, but it's now been almost 3 weeks with no contact or anything in the mail. A very expensive puzzle that runs a high risk of missing pieces.UPDATE:4D Cityscape contacted me today via email and have told me they will be sending out the missing stickers. 3
