Customer Reviews

Challenging but worth the agony.Tons of rocket tubes so be ready with the seam filler and patience. Great detail and fabulous decal quality. One of the best models I ve ever built. Definitely for the more advanced builder. 5Good value and nice resultOverall, this is a nice kit that went together fairly well with virtually no flash on the parts. Getting photo etched parts and link and length tracks for this price is a good value. I'd certainly recommend the kit to intermediate and above builders.I gave it four stars for the following reasons. The turret attaches with with just two plastic tabs that flex and snap-fit to the hull. The fit is too loose. The 170mm tow cable measurement is too short for fitting the cables as shown in the instructions. There was enough string left over to avoid this. I recommend simply cutting the string in half to form the two tow cables. Be careful to drape the cables on the sides of the hull (not on top) on either side of the turret or they will obstruct the turret's rotation. The front fenders rely on joints that are somewhat weak until the glue fully cures. I ended up with one fender slightly out of alignment. The optional side shields rely on tiny flat attachment points (butt joints) rather than mechanical joints, allowing them to easily pop off. The attachment points are small parts that must be fitted to the mounting rail perfectly to align properly when the shields are installed. They should be molded into the mounting rails for a better result. Be very, very careful to orient the tracks correctly. They are directional and it's easy to overlook when installing them (as I did). 4Nice kit with problemsA nice kit with excellent detail is the good part. The bad part is the fit is poor, many parts do not fit together well and require lots of adjustment. The instructions, like many Academy models are not the best, the placement of some parts is just tough to figure out. The bad part is you find out many bad fit options when you try get bigger pieces together. Not for the beginner. 3Academy M2 BradleyThe model kit is well made with clean castings. The parts go together well and the instructions are very clear. Several extra pieces are included so that you can build it your way. The water slide markings go on well. The only problem I had was with joining the tracks together, after heating the track together it pulled apart when trying to put them over the wheels. I needed to find glue that would join the track plastic together to make the tracks stay together. 5Tough to get parts off sprues without breakageNot the greatest product engineering for the parts sprues . Many parts do not have defined placements . Definately not for beginners . 3Fun build at a great price, but not for beginnersThis kit has great detail inside and out. The majority of the drivers' compartment, fighting compartment, and turret have all the major pieces in great detail. The engine compartment contents are not included. Fit is very good, especially considering the large number of small parts. Since the kits does have many small parts, I would not recommend it for younger modelers. As other reviewers indicated, the instructions are somewhat weak (almost completely pictorial), in the sense you need to look carefully at the supplemental pictures on the box and at the end of the instructions to know where some of the small parts are to go. On a positive note, the kit comes with a large number of extra accessories (although no crew figures): cannon rounds, cannon ammo tubes, machine gun ammunition boxes, crew bags and sacks. The kit also comes with two types of track: link and length and the conventional "rubber band" type. (Both sets are molded in black; the rest of the kit is molded in medium dark green.) Other options include cannon barrel with and without muzzle brake, turret mantlet with and without canvas cover, two radio alternatives, and fenders with and without dust covers. Flash was negligible on my kit. Overall, this kit is a gem and a terrific value for the $28 I paid for mine! The kit's only downfall are the decals, which are terrible, and the only reason I gave the kit four starts instead of five. Recommended for tank model enthusiasts. (As a side note, I highly recommend Steven Zaloga's book on the M18 Hellcat. It's a good read and a good reference.) 4I never built a model from this company beforeWhile the model was fairly detailed, I was disappointed in the overall quality. Almost without exception the smaller parts fell apart when I was cutting them off the sprue. Didn't bother with the side armor as the connecting pieces literally disintegrated. The decals seemed old and dried out and also fell apart. I should note that I am an experienced modeler and know what I am doing. 2Finally Started the BuildAs of Friday 13th I started to build this gem of a kit, and in doing so will provide photos along the way. The kit is full of details inside and out and all about small parts to bring out the exact details of the real tank destroyer, not a tank as one would first think, there was a designation difference in WW II answering the call to arm individual units with tank destroyers to knock out German armor. The history of the M18 should be read throughout construction to add to the drama of a crew in one of these vehicles. The kit depicts one of several versions and the research to be done to get the right vehicle for a campaign is good to do.The crew figures are not included but many optional kits offer at least a commander and driver figure and these are readily available. I would highly recommend this kit to the experienced kit builder as this is not die-cast nor a toy "tank". Be sure to read the kit description of the tank destroyer prior to purchasing. JERRY CANS by Italeri1/35 Allied Vehicle AccessoriesAny of the additional add-on kits will enhance the detailing of this models and with the included accessories a full compliment of goods can be carried. Dragon 1/35 U.S. Army Tank Riders 1944-45 (4 Figures Set) Gen 2Tank riders could be added to help bring out some more uses of the tank destroyer as well as simply enhance a diorama using this kit as a center piece. I may use figures from a Tamiya Sherman Tank crew 1/35 M4A3 Sherman 75mmas well as the 1/35 US 1st Army-Remagen '45Any number of possible combinations can be created. A Winter scene at the Battle of the Bulge would be an excellent idea. 5Academy: Complicated, but worth itFirst things first: This is a great model. It looks great assembled, takes paint well, and has an amazing level of detail. The inclusion of extra boxes, barrels and in particular the machine guns, takes it into 5 star territory. Now, the down side. Academy models are VERY complicated, with a lot of fiddly small parts that have very precise locations. It doesn't help that the plastic is a bit on the fragile side. This accidentally was one of the very first sets I purchased when I was starting into modelling, and I will admit it gave me fits at times. If you are experienced and need a truck like this, don't hesitate. It's a little spendy, but I feel the inclusion of the extra equipment makes up for its complexity and fragility. If you are new to the hobby, expect to take a lot of extra time with this model to get it right. It isn't the nightmare that the Revell 1:72 HMMWV TOW & Ambulance set was. 5Great kitI was cross trained on the Vulcan during ait in 1975 at ft bliss Texas. Got to night fire the system at white sands missle range. Very imprimpressive the kit is very accurate and has a ton of extras very cool kit. 5
