Customer Reviews

Great for early walkers, but good for later walkers too!We love this, it's so well made, wood and just the right height for early walkers. We gave this to our 9 month old (30th percentiles) and he started using it right away. He can pull up on it without it tipping over. It is heavy, much heavier than plastic ones, so turning corners needs some assistance. He loves the cogs on the side (unfortunately the only plastic part!) too, plays with them a lot. I think this would be fine for older children too who are just walking, or want something to push around with their bears in. 5Well made, but kind of heavy for a little one. This item is lovely and well made. My 18 month old did really like it at first, but kind of lost interest because it is a bit heavy and REALLY hard to turn. I loved that it was all wood and the wheels were padded, but it makes so much friction that it does not turn easily. She loves to do laps, and go kind of fast, which she could not do with this. For the price, I was hoping for something that she would play with for a long time. Maybe she will like it more as she gets older? not sure. We ended up just getting the plastic shopping cart toy and it was a much bigger hit with her. SIGH. 4DEFECTIVE, DANGEROUS missing partRATING WOULD'VE BEEN ZERO HAD THAT BEEN A CHOICE Arrived with one of the inner wheel hubs rolling around inside the box. Wheel won't stay on axle without it. See photo of hub below; it was designed to be held onto the axle with the inner metal teeth. See photo of hub below; it was designed to attach to the axle with the inner metal teeth. The hub was not a part that the consumer was to have assembled, nor would it have fallen off in shipping, given its protected location. Glad the hub was already off when we first saw it; had it been only loose and fallen off while the baby was using the toy, it would have been a CHOKING HAZARD as the hub was the size of a penny. (see 1st photo) MANUFACTURER SHOULD RECALL THIS PRODUCT. (2nd photo shows lot # etc.) So disappointing as otherwise seemed like a nice toy. 1Ehh, it's just okI have mixed feelings. It seems generally well made and my daughter likes it. She doesn't play with the extras on the back and sides as much as I had hoped. It is not heavy enough for her to pull herself up without tipping, unfortunately (she's about 21 lbs). And the back wheels are wobbly and tip toward the centerline at the top, so the paint is rubbing off on the main body where the wheel touches it. The front wheels are not wobbly.Update: I contacted Hape about the back wheels scraping the body. They promptly sent a replacement but it has the exact same problem. Seems like a design flaw, not just a one-off issue with the first walker I received. 3Fantastic & worth every pennyI ordered this for my soon to be 9 month old daughter. It shipped fast and arrived with simple instructions for assembly. It comes with an Alan wrench, and all you do is take out 2 screws, flip up the handle bar, and secure the 2 screws in another pre drilled hole. The walker itself is super sturdy, and is high quality. My 9 month old cannot stand up alone yet, so I let her grasp the handle bar (not correct term but that's just what I call it), while she happily stands & licks the handle bar. (It comes up to about her chin area). So this is a fairly large toy, that will definitely be used for years to come. There's a storage area in the front, so you can load it up with toys and let your little one push them around the room. Or in my case, your baby who's still sitting upright with some crawling, can play with whatever is inside the storage area while checking out the cool accessories on this wooden walker. There's gears that turn, beads, a car on a path that can be moved around and a few other things that grabs the baby's attention. My 4 year old and 7 year old immediately stuck their baby sister in the walkers storage area and pushed her around. So now Ruby is happy sitting in that compartment, and will probably take her time learning how to actually walk with this. My 4 year old already was sitting in it as well, with his older sister pulling him with a jump rope they had tied around it.This is one of those community toys. Where your entire household will use (abuse) it!This is a beautiful walker that is not an eye sore sitting in your front room. If you are thinking of buying one, splurge on this item, it's worth it.I need to add that the wheels on this walker are a type of rubber that's sandwiched by thin circular wood pieces. Very nice construction.Lastly, Hape Toys is a wonderful company. Read about their history and growth. They're an environmentally friendly business. I have several of their products/toys and I'm a satisfied customer.I'm happy with my purchase! 5It is missing screws!!! Ugh!I bought this in November 2018 so it would be here for Xmas. At that time my twins were too little for it, so I just opened it. The assembly instructions are very simple, if you only had all the parts. It comes folded for transportation. You are supposed to remove two screws and put them at the bottom so it stands up. However we were missing the screws for the handle and the Allen wrench. The type of screw is one that I don t have in our vast collection of screws. I hate going to the hardware store for a screw since I won t be leaving just with a set of screws. For the price that we are paying for this toy, I would have expected all the parts I needed to be included. The twins are already enjoying the walker because I Gerry rigged it. Amazon and Hape you should just send me the missing screws. I will edit my review once it is fully assembled.Update feb 2019: it topples very easily. If there is no counterweight on the walker my twins will topple as they are trying to stand using the walker. I hate this walker. The v tech that I already owned is much better and stable. 1The inability for this thing to turn around is truly annoyingI researched a ton of walkers before getting this one and didn't think the fact that it will only go in a straight line would be a big deal but it really is. If you have a huge amount of space for your little one to use this in then it's probably totally fine it's a great product but we live in a small house and the only place my daughter can really play with it is the hallway but soon after she finally gets going and is having fun she hits the end of the hall and I have to pick it up and turn it around for her. Kind of a pain. I also did what other parents do before their kid can walk unassisted...I added two 10-lb weights in the cart to keep it from going too fast. So I had to pick up the cart and the additional 20 lbs. I placed in it. Over and over and over.If I had it to do over, I'd get a high quality walker that turns around. My daughter is walking very well now so I'm getting her other toys at this point. 3Our first child had a different walker that worked great for himOur first child had a different walker that worked great for him. When baby #2 started to use it, however, it tipped over, so we had to get her something sturdier. This did the job. From 9 months she could pull herself up with it, and would play happily with the knobs and gears and toys. When she was starting to cruise, we put some books and heavy toys in the bin part so that she could really lean on it with no danger of it tipping backwards as she started to walk. Sometimes she would sit in it and her brother would push her around (the wheels are tight enough that he couldn't go far). She loved to stand on it like it was a segway and try to move that way, and it never toppled over. Total success. One day after less than 6 months of use, a piece of a nut (as in, at the end of the bolt) broke, and a wheel fell off. There was clearly no way to fix it with any conventional hardware. We contacted Hape and they immediately sent us a replacement -- no questions asked, no hassle, quickly and efficiently. My now 16 month old still really loves her walker. She uses it to push her dolls around, or to sit in and push herself around with her arms, or just to push around for fun. It looks as good as new, and will easily be handed down to another child at the right time. 5We love it, colourful and well made.We purchased this walker when my son was nine months old to help him learn to walk. He is now finally walking at 14 months. It was quick and easy to assemble and the colours are bright and true to the picture. It is all wood, except for the gears on the side of the bin. This product definitely helped our son gain confidence on his feet. It is quite heavy and does not tip over easily which is great. However, I will mention that because of its weight the rate at which it gets moving was a little fast for my son at first and you need to stay close since it can run away from the kid and they can fall forward trying to keep up. It did not take long for my son to gain a little balance and strength so that he was able to better control the speed. Changing directions was another issue. It needs to be lifted to turn so even though our son can safely walk around with it, he still is not strong enough to turn it. And in our house it does occasionally leave red marks on doors and skirting boards. We keep his small living room toys in the bin and he likes to crawl over and pull them all out. he loves anything that spins which includes all the activities included on the back and sides of the cart so he gets lots of entertainment out of it while stationary. I can see him using this for years, especially once he is strong enough to move it about himself. I like the rubber on the wheels and it rolls easily on our area rugs and hard wood floors. It also protects his little toes when he sometimes rolls it back on them. I also like that it doesn't make any noise, he has enough other toys that do that. The round red nobs on the handle are a great fit for little hands. We are very happy with the purchase! 5Simple, but Fun WalkerI got this for our, then, 8 month old when he first learning to pull himself up. This walker is so nice. It's sturdy, he can pull himself up on it without it tipping over. I like the big red balls on the handles, they are perfect for his little hands to grip. I do not like the few plastic pieces on it, but I will compromise with a few plastic pieces instead of the entire thing in plastic. I like that it's simple, no fancy buttons or batteries required and my son loves pushing it across the floor. He grabs the handle and goes one way, then turns around and takes it backwards. I don't like that it doesn't turn easily, or really at all, unless you pick it up and turn it yourself, but, again, my son still loves to play in and on it. We put his toys in the basket, to keep them in one place (since we have a very small house) and he knows where to find them and can pick them up and play with what he wants. He also loves to climb inside and stand holding onto the handles. The rubber on the wheels makes it nice to use on our wood floors. Obviously, as with any toy, supervision is required with this, because he can push it too fast and fall, but overall it's a great toy that we hope to have for a long time. (See pictures) 4
